    Worse Experience in Istanbul

    rating08 Oct 2025

Worse Experience This is by far the most disappointing hotel we have ever stayed in. During our 10-day trip to Turkey, we stayed in four different hotels, and Monaco Hotel Istanbul was unfortunately the worst experience of all. When we made our booking, the photos of the three-bedroom room looked very spacious and comfortable. However, upon arrival, we were given a very compact and congested room that looked nothing like the pictures. Only after our strong insistence did the hotel staff change our room the next day, but even that was far from what was shown online. The condition of the room was terrible — several things were broken, including the shower cabin, and the walls had peeling paint. The towels were very old, and almost every item in the room seemed damaged or poorly maintained. Even basic amenities like bottled water were not provided. Our overall experience was extremely unpleasant and disappointing. We strongly advise future travelers to avoid this hotel. Staying here can truly ruin your experience in Istanbul

    Just average.

I stayed here as part of an Explore tour for one night at the beginning of the tour and three nights after. The hotel is average. It is close to the tram line but to get from the tram stop to the hotel at night involves walking down a deserted and dark alley way so I didn't feel safe going out at night alone. The shower recess in the first room was so small I could touch both sides with my elbows. At least my room had a window, one person in our group was given a room without a window. The second room was better and the shower was bigger although I did have the shower door open when sitting on the toilet.I thought it was stingy of the hotel not to provide bottled water. There was a kettle but no cups to use, only glasses. The rooms have no soundproofing and I could hear the conversation of people in the room next to me. The airconditioning is controlled by the hotel so it was impossible to have it at a setting I wanted.I found the breakfast very average. There was no toaster for the stale bread provided on two occasions, no orange juice, no pastries, no eggs except boiled ones. Some of the food appeared to be left overs from the previous night. Quite disappointing. The beds were clean and comfortable but the towels were a bit threadbare and scratchy.Overall, I've stayed at worse but I've also stayed at better.

    I’d recommend it

I very central hotel to the tram line that takes you everywhere and walking distance to the Grand Bizaar and various mosques. At night not a lot happening around the hotel. Very quiet area. There is a small bar / cafe a few minutes walk away that is open late. The hotel bar was very accommodating and would serve all night as required Rooms were very clean. Bed was comfy. Air con was good. Bathroom was also good with a great shower. Breakfast buffet was excellent. The selection was huge. Didn’t know what a lot of it was as not used to Turkish breakfasts and no labels, but more than enough and what I had was lovely. Only thing missing was orange juice. The only reason I don’t give 5 stars was the room had stains on carpet and wallpaper had been patched. Other than that it was excellent value and I’d stay again.

Convenient location, comfortable stay, best breakfast!

    rating07 Oct 2024

I stayed here as part of an Explore tour, plus added on a couple of nights to see more of Istanbul. It's in a convenient location...the tram and major sights are a short walk away, plus the Havaist 12 to IST is also less than 10 min walk. Best of all is the breakfast... best I've had on my 19 day trip. Chef Ale is outstanding. His breakfast is "breakfast, lunch and dinner" all in one! Salads, fruit, cheese, pastries, soups, meats, eggs, great coffee, etc. etc ... there's nothing you can't find in this breakfast buffet. The dining room is immaculately clean with staff always tidying up.

Not quite Princess Grace standard, but as a base for tourists, very good

    rating15 May 2024

In a quiet side street, close to the central tram the Monaco is no Royal palace, but it certainly did the job at the start of our Explore Turkish Road Trip. And with one of the best breakfast’s this side of Ankara, you really can’t go wrong.Small lifts take you up 7 floors to the roof top restaurant. The basics they get right. Good bed, hot shower and delicious breakfast. Staff helpful and being located less than 20 minutes to the Blue Mosque, this place does the job
