  Beware, do not get fooled by misinformation (provided by Hotels.com)

  Trip to Istanbul 13th to 17th April 2026We booked a room (a suite) in Romantic Hotel Istanbul through Hotels.com. Compared to Istanbul's price level, the price was not expensive, but still a bit high. The information on the website was misleading, as were the pictures. When we arrived at the hotel, the reception desk was very modest, a bit untidy. We checked in. A rather strong smell of mold hit us as soon as we entered the room. I have mild asthma, so I can't stay in a moldy environment for long periods of time. The room looked nice and inviting in the photos, but the reality was different. A few examples: the mini bar was broken, the wall cardboard was cracked, the toilet seat ring was only attached to one edge, the paint was peeling in several places. Attached are a few pictures. The original information mentioned that breakfast would be served on the terrace, which had a view of the Blue Mosque, among other things. In reality, breakfast would have been served on the ground floor , in a room without windows. We left the room and the hotel to consider what to do. We ended up booking another hotel nearby. We returned to Romantic Hotel Istanbul and told the receptionist that we would not accept the room and would leave, and we left. We tried to contact Hotels.com, but it was impossible. When we called, there were only countless menus available, from which we had to find a suitable option. We were not able to speak to a human representative at any point. When we returned to our home country, we tried to inform Hotels.com about the matter again, but we could not find a place to write our complaint. Hotels.com did not give us the opportunity to review the hotel because we had cancelled the reservation. So we did not get to tell the reason for the cancellation. We had to pay one night's price as compensation for the cancellation of the reservation. We wished we could have written a review on Hotels.com so that no one else would make the same mistake and book a room at the hotel in question.Riku N

  A hotel that could be so much better when maintained properly.

  The location is absolutely faboulous, near to two very good restaurants.The three person room on the third floor front is lovely. We had a Dolmabahçe room with a large balcony, having a splendid view over the Bosporus. The hotel interior looks great, but needs a lot of maintanance. Hardly any sanitary is working without issues. The bathtub could only be emptied by lifting the plug with a nife. After flushing the toilet water would only stop running when hitting the flush buttons hard to get back in position. A lady on the top floor had a broken toilet all of her stay and had to go all the stairs down and up to use the bathroom. Breakfast has many choices, but only slices of French baguette to put some things on. We had a very nice time, but what a shame of these shortcomings. Now it is three stars at best whilst it could easyly be 4.

  Best experience in Istanbul

  This was a wonderful hotel. The daily Turkish breakfast was very good with a large variety of different meats, cheeses, veggies, pastries and Turkish coffee. Though the room was small, it had all that we needed as a family. The hosts were also very helpful in setting up transport to and from the airport, a Hammam massage for my daughter and I, and a Bosphorus dinner cruise, an unforgettable experience. It is also in a very good location, walkable to the main sights with very comfortable beds. My only mild complaint was that it was a little noisy on a Saturday night during Ramadan, but that is to be expected and was part of the charm. I thank them for their wonderful hospitality in welcoming our family and helping us navigate Istanbul for the best experience.

  I would not recommend this hotel. This was my second trip to Istanbul and stayed in the same historic area before. My previous hotel was already booked. Make sure you look at current pictures, not their 2017 or ones made by management. I will upload mine later. I just returned (September 2024) and 1) got moved to a hotel across the street upon arrival; 2) never got twin beds with a Bosphorous review as my reservation indicated; 3) finally got a room with a Bosphorous view with a queen size bed but you CAN NOT go out on the balcony, etc. You can open the door to the outside and then climb up the stairs (dangerous) to go up a floor where some other room has that view. The bedding is lumpy and the sheets are not fitted, so constantly come out. Breakfast food is sufficient but is served in the basement breakfast room. Locks to the room questionable as our card opened our neighbor's room - this was done by our host showing us our room! We had to jiggle the door to make sure it was locked. "Lobby" also in the basement. While our room was clean and the towels refreshed daily, they could use more staff 24/7 to keep it tidy. Staff may work hard but standards lacking. Dust balls under the bed, etc. It is an old area so hard to maneuver supplies, etc. I get it but it not correct to make someone switch rooms and not get the right room. We were told later that our twin bed rooms did NOT overlook the Bosphorous anyway. It is not sufficient for Americans to hear "no problem" endlessly. If you book 4 nights you get a 'free' ride to OR from the airport (just one way). We were met at the exit but it turns out that it's just a service that shuffles you around and we waited about 30-45 minutes to get loaded into our van. We were the only ones but with the wait and the cost of Uber (US$35-40) it's not a great deal. The pictures of the rooms look nice but it fairly gaudy. I will say that their bathrooms while being SUPER SMALL have great hot water and work. I also felt that the online rate is NOT the best rate so screws over those of us who book online versus calling in or dropping in.

  Good experience at the Romantic Hotel Istanbul

  Very happy stay recently at the Romantic Hotel Istanbul. Ideal location for the tourist with many of the major attractions within a short walking distance. Generous room space with nice bathroom. Very clean and well kept hotel. Breakfast was included in our rate and was more than adequate. Staff friendly and helpful at all times. Addressed any of our concerns efficiently.
