Perfect Location for a city trip

    rating07 May 2019

Friendly staff, clean, big room, quiet and very good value for money! Best choice in town for a quick stay. We even had a fish called 'Bubble' in an Aquarium in the room. He seemed a bit lonely but it underlined that the hotel is animal friendly, we guessed. Isbiengood, Gérant at Hotel des Ducs, responded to this review Thank you for the review. We have got 3 rooms with some fight-fish. They are all alone because they cannot stay with other fish. See you

    Avoid at all cost

    rating08 Oct 2018

We spent a month on a driving tour of France, staying in multiple hotels. Price and rating varied from stay to stay. Our experience of this hotel was the worst by light years!! Which is a huge shame, as every other hotel rated good to excellent.Upon arrival the greeting was at best frosty, which was a first for a hotel receptionist, as the norm was warm and friendly. We were then shown to our room, walking through a backyard with our luggage - no assistance was offered - which was littered with rubbish. We then climbed up fire escape metal stairs. Upon going back into the building we were advised to keep the doors closed, otherwise some of his many cats could come into the main building. The odour made it clear that any number of cats had previously entered the building, as the stench of cat urine was overpowering. The corridor to our room was dark, twisty and narrow, sadly the lights were on push button timers and did not stay on long enough to get into the room. I have to say that whist incredibly dated and old fashioned, the room appeared to be clean. The bed was comfortable. On booking.com we chose this hotel as it is in a central location and was listed as having a park view, which indeed it does. As the temp was mid 30’s, one of the first things that we did was open a window, to get some air and take in the view. Sadly the lovely view was overpowered by the fact that our room sat directly on the corner of a very busy road junction / cross road with traffic lights. We discovered very early in the morning that both roads are major routes for heavy goods vehicles and busses - so the choice was cook in the heat, as no aircon, or choke on diesel fumes and listen to heavy engines revving up as they slowly pulled away.. Unfortunately we appeared to have chosen a very popular date, as there was nothing else available in the area, as I would have gladly paid twice to sleep somewhere else. Check out time was 10a. As we were picking up our luggage, literally on the stroke of 10, there was a knock on the bedroom door. As I opened it, the owner / reception looked at me and said, “time to go” .... he didn’t utter another word, not good Morning, how are you, did you sleep well? Etc... we were both stunned by such appalling rudeness and bad mannersI would suggest that if this venue existed in the UK, it would be closed down by the environmental health dept.. health and safety would also take a dim view, imposing some radical upgrades! PLEASE DO YOURSELVES A FAVOUR, BOOK ANYWHERE ELSE!!!

Terrible service and the place stinks. Rooms are ok.

I've been cyclotouring for a week and camping under tent. I had to spend a night at a hotel to use internet for work. I called hotel de verdun at 6pm to find out if they had a computer available and the manager assured me there was one I could use. I therefore booked a room and showed up an hour later. When I arrived the manager said I couldn't use the computer anymore as he was closing the reception. He said he would lend it only if I left a deposit of 1500 euros cash.Obviously, I didn't have that kind of money on me so I proposed he blocks that amount on my credit card which he refused. I explained that we had booked the hotel specifically because he said I could use the computer but he didn't want to help. On the other hand, as most other reviews already mention, the place absolutely stinks due to all the cats walking around.Rooms are ok, though not very clean and very basic. Isbiengood, Gérant at Hotel des Ducs, responded to this review At least you can write everithing you want. You phone me at 3 PM asking me if i have a room available and were anoying that it was more expensive that Booking.com. You ask me if I have a computer available to the guest and answer you yes till the front is open. You arrive stinking beer at 6.30 PM and telling me if i still have a room available. I inform you that it is ok but to late for the computer because i close the hotel and inform you that you will not have it. You said that i was the only hotel where you can have a computer or to the bestwestern which was too expensive for you. You propose me to make a deposit with your credit card for 1500 euros, the credit card which was declined for only 49 euros. I told you that i don't give a Macbook (or only if you leave a deposit of 1500 euros cash) to anybody into a room. Finally you accept to stay during the night. You ask me to check the room and at this time everything was perfect and now because you didn't get what you want, everything is bad and stink cats. Not surprised by a very bad behaviors.

    Good stopover

Everything about the hotel was fine except that the room stank of cigarette smoke. A shame given the efforts by the management to dissuade people from smoking in the rooms. Otherwise good room and shower and somewhere secure for my bike overnight. Close to lots of restaurants. Isbiengood, Gérant at Hotel des Ducs, responded to this review Dear Chris, thank you for your nice review. That's right, even if it is written on the door of the room and even if we inform guest where they can smoke, you will still have some guest who don't care of what we say. It's good manners but many people lost them when they go to a hotel. Have a good trip

    Not impressed.

    rating23 Nov 2015

Booked for two nights in November but left after one. Got such a shock to see the place over run with cats.. If we'd been warned about this on booking.com we would have booked elsewhere. The place was dingy and had a horrible smell (made worse with the incense to try and hide it).. Dirty, dangerous carpet on the stairs. We got to the room and were so let down. We made the decision, go to bed early, get up early and get out of there!! Isbiengood, Gérant at Hotel des Ducs, responded to this review If you can read, you will see that we have cats at the hotel. It will be good for your to return to school. The problem of poor guy like you is that you are looking only for the rate. You are coming to pray at Bernadette Soubirou but you prefer to lie instead of telling to somebody why you dislike it and prefer to write a review. and saying that you have to go to Paris.Stop to go to church, god doesn't like liars. You are a shame.
