    I felt suicidal being there

    rating12 Jul 2022

I visited the Sevcan hotel because I had fallen ill while in turkey and couldn't stay at my previous hotel in Istanbul after leaving hospital. I booked the Sevcan through Hostel world at the last minute as it was evening time time I was worried I wouldn't secure a place to stay for the remainder of my holiday. I jumped in a taxi to the Sevcan. When I got there it was about 7pm and I was given a room without WiFi and tea and coffee making facilities. I paid extra for my own room with ensuite so I could get these things so requested a room change and was told I'd have to wait till the next day after the cleaners had cleaned the checked out rooms so there was a lot of going back and forth with this.MEETING THE MANAGERThe next day I met the manager who asked me to pay the balance for the room since hostel world only takes a deposit. I was told to knock on his door and when I did I was greeted with a lot of smoke from the many cigarettes he'd been smoking. Once he realised I had booked through Hostel world he seemed very irritated. He said you could have booked through booking.com, trivago but you booked through Hostel world. I was very confused because why would a hotel put themselves on Hostel world if they didn't want anyone to book? and secondly what did it matter which company I booked through, the point is that I booked. He said I could have given you a better deal and tried to suggest that i cancel my booking through them and pay him directly 500 turkish lira per day. Of course I was like no I'm not doing that because having met him I actually felt safer that I'd booked through a third party.CONFUSIONBeing so unwell i didn't read my recipet from Hostel world properly and thought I had only booked to stay until Saturday but i needed to check out Sunday morning so I checked with the manager and he said I could stay an extra two days and pay on Saturday morning which is my check out day. I asked if I should pay now to secure the room and he made it clear that no one else will book the room so it didn't matter. This is important for later.THE MOMENT I FELT HELPLESS AND UNSAFEOn the Saturday I got a call to my room asking me to pay to stay longer. At that point I looked at my receipt from Hostel world on my phone and it said check out 3rd July 2022. Before then I was only looking at each day paid which actually showed I paid for Saturday anyway so I didn't need to pay anymore and the manager also would have seen this on my phone if he bothered to look. When I came down to reception and explained that I paid up to date after all and didn't need to pay anymore the manager said I must pay for the extra two days because we made a deal. I tried to do Google translate and show him my phone to explain everything his words were "lady lady why you keep showing me things on your phone, why can't we just talk and work something out". My response would have been because I'm paid up and have proof and its unprofessional to do side deals but as I say he wasn't willing to read my Google translated messages so I never stood a chance. He mentioned that because I requested the extra two days that I had to pay because he put the room aside for me for an extra two days. This was a lie because when I previously asked if I should pay straight away to secure the room I was told no one would book my room which is true because the hotel is so awful most of the rooms were vacant so the manager wasn't losing out as he said he was. I believe he knew my check out date and just wanted the extra two days money which worked out to be £40 to pocket for himself. After trying to explain everything to him and realising he wasn't going to listen and just his general rudeness I was about to start crying because I felt so helpless and in shock that I had proof but that the proof I tried to show wouldn't make a difference. When he saw I was about to cry he said " no need to cry, you can stay an extra day fir free and you pay the final day tommorow" So basically he made it seem like he was doing me a favour when I already paid for Saturday. At that point I was so angry I just looked him dead in the eye and thought to myself no I'm not paying because luckily for me I will be leaving in the middle of the night so when you call my room tommorow (sunday at 11am) when you're awake I will have kept hours before and will be back in the UK.They should have had all the details about my stay on their system and would have been able to see immediately and reassure me that I had paid until Sunday but the manager relied on me showing them my phone and when I tried to use Google translate to explain things he wasn't interested and seemed to be ok with the language barrier which I later realised was because it meant he could get away with what he was doing which was to scam me out of money.THE GREAT ESCAPESaturday night I made sure my bags were packed and I was showered and dressed. I booked a taxi through booking.com. Once again one of the staff at reception tried to get me to pay them to take me to the airport as a side deal and I was like no way because you spent the whole week acting like I was a nuisance when you guys had got everything wrong. My taxi was booked for 4.45am Sunday morning and I stayed awake the whole night because I didnt wanna accidently fall asleep and miss my flight. I was glad I had an early flight because I knew the manager wouldn't be around until 11am so I could make my escape. As soon as I saw the taxi driver pull into the car park I rushed downstairs, peeped my head round at reception and saw there was no one there I put my room card on the counter and walked straight past reception with my luggage and out the door. There was a guy in a side office tapping away at the computer but luckily he didn't see me. I managed to walk past with my luggage without him noticing. Once I got in the taxi and he drove off I knew I had escaped without having to pay more money for a room I had already paid for.FINAL THOUGHTSBeing a woman on my own in another country and being mistreated made me feel really vulnerable and too be honest suicidal and for some reason I thought because I booked through hostel world that they catered to solo travellers but this hotel is not suitable for solo travellers you really need another woman or a man so that you are safe secure and protected from the hotel manager because he didn't bother women who had their partners with them. All I can say is never ever again it was the worst experience of my life and I would not recommend this hotel.

    Absolutely disgusting

    rating08 Apr 2019

This hotel is horrendous, it is dark and dirty. No information in the room about anything. The breakfast was stale and very minimal the evening meal was a choice of 2 dishes neither vegetarian not anything plain. The mattress didn't fit the bed and was very dirty, the switches and lights were loose and didn't always work, the wardrobe didn't fit anything in and the safe was stuck unusable behind the door that would not open etc etc

Recently I stayed at Sevcan Hotel Istanbul for 7 long nightmare nights. I was moved from Room to Room 4 times, The Air conditions were working, the hotel is very dark, Breakfast is a disaster. TVs very small and has no English Channels. Most of the switches and sockets in the room are broken, shower screen was broken and the carpets were disgustingly dirty. None of the facilities were working, Hamam, Sauna, Massage and the indoor swimming pool was not attended whatsoever. I could not find one good thing about this hotel. Please stay away from this hotel and don't be fooled by their website pictures.
