    Room with 'No' View

    rating25 May 2026

I really wanted to enjoy this hotel, as the pictures from the hotel's promotional literature and videos of roof top areas overlooking the Golden Horn and the Galata Bridge were very enticing. I dreamed of waking up and looking across this incredible waterway to a landscape peppered with bridges, mosques and bazaars. Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic, but this was what I thought I would witness during my stay at the Galata Istanbul Hotel MGallery. The reality however, was somewhat different. To be fair to myself I had requested a room on a high floor and maybe I presumed this might have a decent view, so I had done some homework. What I received was a low level room directly in front of a busy road with a cafe that stayed open until 11pm every night. My window looked out on a derelict building complete with graffiti and anti-bird netting. Some of the staff used the cafe directly below my room and they liked to talk ( who can blame them?) When the cafe closed each night the tables and chairs were dragged along the pavement into the shop, again this noise was disturbing. I made the staff aware of my room request, but I received a curt reply that 'the hotel was full' . There was no follow up contact from the staff; such as 'if a room becomes available maybe I could switch it.' For a five star hotel I consider this to be disappointing. There were positive aspects to my stay. Our room was clean and spacious and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was very good and the restaurant did have a lovely view. I was able to watch pigeons carry out their courting rituals on tiled roofs while seagulls defended their ravenous young as I ate my cereal. Our room was well supplied with fresh towels and bottled water and we did our bit for the environment by not having the room cleaned every day. We also packed in a lot of trips around this incredible city and really enjoyed an impromptu visit to Fener and Balat which are well worth a wander. Istanbul is an amazing place and maybe I'll return one day. Next time I'll make sure to get a room with a view.

    Rude Front Desk Staff

    rating12 May 2026

This is a pretty good hotel. Centrally located. Serve really good food on the top floor restaurant and makes good negroni. Unfortunately twice I was there not must guest. They advertised Sky Bar and no one, no set up nothing was there. Which gives me the impression that this hotel is very poorly managed. The worst is the reception. I booked with this hotel twice in a span of 2 weeks since I am a Platinum member of Accor Club. And during this time I travelled around Turkey and even stayed in another hotel in the Karakoy area. So my first impression during my first stay on the front desk staff was it was normal - language issue. But after being in all the different hotel in Turkey - 7 of them. And checking in the second time I stayed. I have to say. They have the worst, RUDE front desk staff I have ever seen. The way they talk to guest checking out (not me) and guest checking in (me) was just rude and not welcoming. Short one liner that is more like a snap. Room not ready! How long - 1 hour. I came back 1 hour. Room not ready! When will it be ready? Soon. You checking out?!? Mini Ref? After the guest answered. That was it. No thank you for staying. How was your stay - nothing.

    4* hotel, 3* treatment @ 5* prices

    rating30 Apr 2026

We arrived here on Tuesday April 28 for a 3 night stay, we were greeted well by the reception staff upon arrival, we were treated to a Turkish tea by the manager, good start. We inquired about food as we had just come off a long haul flight and we were brought up to the breakfast room/ buffet and told they finish up at 10am so we had 20 minutes to grab what we could which consisted of a cup of lukewarm tea and a little salad. I suppose it’s to be expected at the wrong time for a buffet , when we were leaving I was stopped by a staff member and asked was I paying cash or card, I was charged €50 and knew straight away that I would be eating out for dinner. I got a bottle of Corona at the bar and was charged €12, the real price was €10 but the barman decided himself that he was keeping the change 100tl even though I was standing at the bar waiting for it, I decided not to embarrass myself and walked away. we had breakfast on Friday morning before we left and a member of the waiting staff had open wounds on his forehead, not a pleasant sight while having food, and no member of management thought to ask him to maybe wear some head covering. We brought our own luggage down 3 flights of steps to the lobby and one of the staff insisted on helping me out the door with the luggage, for the customary tip but I declined. While that was going on my wife was checking out at reception and wasn’t asked, how was your stay , were you happy with everything, is there anymore we could have done, no, just, do you take anything from the mini bar. This place is clinical, impersonal with a business hotel vibe, the one thing that we were completely satisfied with was the cleaning service, that was 4*, needless to say we won’t be returning anytime soon..

    Mc Gallery convinced again

    rating16 Mar 2026

We stayed 7 nights at The Galata Hotel Istanbul and enjoyed returning to our room every day. The hotel is in good shape, and the staff – especially the younger ones – are great. It is fairly priced and, to me, comparable to a 4-star hotel. The building was converted into a hotel about 10 years ago, so everything is quite new and modern. Our room was not very large, but it was tastefully furnished with good-quality materials. The multitude of switches was confusing, though. Even after one week, I had not fully figured out how to turn certain lights on or off.The hotel is nicely situated in Beyoğlu, a more modern district with lots of entertainment, while the old center can be reached within a 15-minute walk across the Galata Bridge. Along the street there is a multitude of cafés. Most of them charge exaggerated prices – in fact, Starbucks downtown is cheaper. The restaurant is worth visiting. It offers a fantastic view, good service, and good cuisine at fair prices. I would prefer it to the hyped restaurants in Beyoğlu.They have a spa, which is quite nice but expensive. Ask for the 30-minute free trial of the spa. They might also offer a 30% discount. The weak point is the bar, which feels rather lonely. This is mostly due to the unworldly high prices. The last time I paid €16 for a cocktail was at the Raffles Hotel. Some ambient music and lighting would help, as would the constant presence of an willing and capable bartender. These days, staff members sitting on their phones and having tea seem to be the only guests. Excellent visit, very clean, well maintained hotel. Friendly staff, willing to help. Our room was looked after very well by Kezban. Hammam experience was a highlight of the visit and overall would highly recommend this hotel.
