    Comfortable Stay with Exceptional Service

    rating03 Jan 2026

I spent a lot of time researching where to stay in Istanbul and wanted something away from the heaviest tourist traffic, but still close enough to walk to the metro and get around easily. Meretto Hotel Istanbul Old City was exactly the balance I was hoping for.The decor feels authentic to the neighborhood rather than a generic modern hotel. If you want sleek, newly remodeled, ultra modern rooms, this may not be the right fit. But I liked that it felt like Istanbul, not like it could be anywhere. The room was on the smaller side, but that seems pretty standard here and it was perfectly fine for me since I was out exploring most of the day. What really sets this hotel apart is the staff. Abdul, one of the managers, was incredibly hands-on and welcoming. He seemed to be there constantly, checking in with guests and making sure everyone felt taken care of. Mehmet also went above and beyond, helping me order food, answering a steady stream of questions with patience, and even walking with me to an ATM to make sure I found the right one. It never felt performative, just genuinely kind. They are thoughtful in small ways too, like making sure you have water and offering hot tea if you are sitting in the lobby. For the price, this place is excellent value, and I would absolutely stay here again.

Bad experience, cheap but no worthy

Good location, very close to the center and connections everywhere.Small room, bathroom even smaller than expectation. For 3 days noone cleaned my room from some dead creature(pictures). My rooms window with view on the wall the next building. Very bad Air condition. Noisy room with lot of shuting doors in the night by neighbors.

Great hotel, friendly service, clean, in the middle of the main tourist stuff, very welcoming. Breakfast was very good, nice resto upstairs and we sat out for breakfast. Definitely recommend as an excellent, functional hotel that gives you all you would expect for the price.

Hotel descriptions, pictures, and amenities are fraudulent! Beware and stay away!

    rating09 May 2025

After reviewing The Hotel Maretto’s website, Booking.com, TripAdvisor, Agoda, I decided on choosing this hotel for my 7-night stay in Old Town Istanbul. My review contrasts what they (Hotel’s website and/or 3rd party sites) offer in the way of amenities, and my accurate description of reality. Check in. Something felt off as they sat me down to “review” check-in. They tried to sell me a sim card, room service, many tours, taxi service, even laundry. My impression of them was they all about making money and upsell! Everything they sell is grossly marked up. Ex., I had laundry done one block away. 16 articles of clothing for 270 Lira. The hotel charges 100Lira per article, six times the price paid. I also witnessed a couple using their taxi service. They were charged 1200 Lira, yet the manager gave the taxi driver only 400. Nothing wrong with making money, but they gouge you with their pricing. The Hotel Maretto’s breakfast is not good! This is the only hotel I have ever experienced that did not even have a toaster. They put out some sliced Italian bread and quartered bagels, but you cannot have traditional toast. The scrambled eggs were edible but runny. Their own website says “Bar and restaurant(s).” They have a breakfast area on the top floor. This is not a bar nor a restaurant. They do offer a room service menu. If you order from it, they will run to a local restaurant and order and deliver to you at least double the price. Agoda website says under amenities they have a Salon, Spa, Sauna, Steam Room, Pool, Hammam, with pictures of a massage table. They have a dry sauna, steam room and small cold pool. They said they could turn them on for $15. I inquired about the massage and scrubbing part of a hammam. They said they do not offer. Such Fraud. Their website says Soundproof basement room. So far from the truth! Their website says basement room offers an “old building views”. Typical extreme stretch of the reality. It is a basement room, do not try to spin the view as nice, it is not! This I knew in advance but just trying to show how they spin amenities far from reality. Their website says “Air-conditioning.” When I inquired why my room’s air condition was not working, they explained it was seasonal and not time for air-conditioning. My room seemed warmer than the hallway for some reason. It was about 23 Celsius/73 Fahrenheit. After two days of heated talks the manager looked at the system and noticed no other room was using heat so he decided then it was acceptable to switch to air conditioning. Their website says extra-long beds >2 meters. It was just a standard twin bed. Nothing “extra-long” about it. Their website says they have a washing machine for guests. Yet during check in they offered to lander clothes for 300 lira per article. It’s understood they want to make some money but more fraud showing on the website they have a washing machine for guests then to only offer laundry service at exuberant rates. Says Water sports. Seriously! They must consider the river boat cruise/show/tourist trap they try to sell you, a water sport. Says Sea view. No where in the hotel offers a sea view. Even breakfast is on the top floor and you cannot see the water. Their sister hotel does have some water view from the breakfast. Says 4 star. This is absurd! Should be a 2-star, MAX! Do not book the basement room. Seems the hotel has a problem with odors from their waste pipes. I doubt this is an issue with all rooms, but for sure the basement rooms. I am very disappointed in guests’ reviews on Booking.com and Agoda. Tripadvisor is more accurate but the hotel's rating on Tripadvisor should be lower than the 3.7 showing. Reviews are so far from accurate it makes me suspicious whether they are genuine customers or fraud? I think the owners (family of brothers and cousins, etc.) working the place are very persuasive and many visitors do not know the difference between kindness and salesmen trying to swindle you out of more money by upselling. The pictures shown on their website are a mix of both of their hotel locations making it more confusing as to what you are getting. The one salesman/manager after “checking you in,” will bother you at breakfast to push tours, taxis, laundry, sim cards, etc. If you choose this place regardless of my review, I only ask you to be objective and accurate in your review of this hotel. They do not deserve the ratings I have seen. Beware!!

Great value, well located, spotlessly clean.

    rating03 Apr 2025

I can thoroughly recommend this small Hotel. The reception staff, cleaning team & breakfast service are all so friendly & helpful. It is excellent value for money, including breakfast on the upper floor, with a view over the city & free bottled water in your room each day. The location is close to the Havaist airport shuttle bus. The Aksaray T1 tram station is minutes away. I will most definitely return to this Hotel. If you need anything just ask- for me, the room was too warm & the manager sorted it for me instantly. There is a fridge in the room, tea making facilities & the shower is brilliantly strong. The bed is firm, there is no external noise & I slept well. The room was spotlessly clean.
