  We were at Blau Arenal for 2 weeks in January 2026. Resort is nice and very quiet. Less than 1/2 full. Power outages frequent but an on-site generator kicks on in under a minute. Power 110& 220v, so we brought a power converter to use. Wifi resets and available in rooms, lobby & at the snack bar. Staff is wonderful. Using bottles water and filtered water for ice. No issues. We could always find simple but good food at the buffet, but don't expect much of a selection at the bar with no blender or fruit juices. Rooms were clean & comfortable. Take hot (warmer) showers in the afternoon due to solar heating. Bring facecloths. The pool is cold but very clean. Gym had free weights & a universal set but treadmills & elliptical not working. I didn't try the bikes.Beach is nice, no mosquitoes right now, but read up on Midges. Their bites are nasty, we had dozens. The town of Guanabo to the right is a good beach hike away.Bus trips to Havana daily at 1030 with returns at 330 & 5pm. US$10 pp incl return. 30 min trip. Any nighttime returns will be by taxi. Bring lots to give away. Everyone appreciated it. Cheers!   DO WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME

  Where do I start. Let's talk about the lack of barrier free accessibility. 2 hot showers in 7 days and the have a generator but the water is heated through solar. It doesn't work. If you don't tip your cleaning staff your room doesn't get cleaned properly. Food was absolutely the worst I have had on any trip. I understand there are shortages at the time, but after talking to other Travellers from other resorts, they were not an issue. Large concrete blocks to walk over to get to a beach if you can get past the very delapitated walking bridge without injury. 12-15 power outages throughout the night with the TV and bathroom lights flickering, and we upgraded to a suite. What a joke. Cats running around the resort and food areas begging all the time. A tennis and basketball court that should be shut down due to lack of upkeep. A toaster you have to put your bread through 6 times to get it to slightly brown. Only 2 bars and after. Day 2 at both bas, they ran out of Pinacolada mix and cola. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN. I complained and they got cola right away, but that was it. Other Travellers stated they had no issue what so ever at other resorts for supply chain during the same time. Booked 2 excursions and the first rum and cigar tour 200USD for 2 people, we had no cigar tour due to all the factories being closed, yet we were not informed of that prior to paying for the tour. Another Vinayles tour that was 160USD and we spent 11.5 hours on a dirty tour bus with a pad lock on the on board washroom. What the heck? All information was not relayed or wouldn't have spent that money on excursions. Only reason we spent the money to begin with was to get away from such a decapitated resort. I could write a novel on Blau Arenal, but I think what really should be taken from this review is, DONT GO THERE. You will be really disappointed and it's a complete waste of your hard earned money. I hope this review helps save other Travellers the disappointment and heartaches in which we experienced .   Quiet, clean resort- perfect location

  Blau Arenal is a smaller resort just 15 minutes outside of Havana. This is the second time we have stayed there and we have friends that have stayed multiple times. The rooms are spacious and clean, the housekeeper Eli was wonderful! The staff are friendly and are very helpful- knowing some basic Spanish would be an asset to help meet halfway in communication and conversation- but always friendly. The beach is stunning with crystal clear water and the pool is spacious and clean. There is some entertainment but it is never overly loud. Great if you enjoy quieter evenings and a more laid back atmosphere. There are 3 bars and 2 of them with espresso machines. Sometimes they have been out of certain supplies but they are always quick to offer an alternative option. Food can sometimes be a bit repetitive but there are other restaurant options within walking distance if you want to get adventurous and get off the resort. Overall for the price of this resort I would say it is a great value and we will return!   Just horrible, will never return.

  Mid Dec my partner and I booked 2 weeks at the Blau Arenal Habana beach. I had taken some earrings with me as we were planning to do many excursions in Havana city. Upon our 2 nd week I noticed the case my earrings were was missing. At the time i really had thought my partner had moved the bright yellow case to a safer location such as the safe in the room. (He did not) when we got home I asked for my heirloom earrings and he said he did not move them. In absolute horror I started calling and emailed the Blau for assistance on this matter. No answer after 2 days of calling. Also many emails were sent. No response . These earrings were gifted to me by my mother just before she passed away, to say the least they are priceless and true treasures to me! I have no more family!! Please tell me why this hotel/ resort will not help? Please no negative comments as I am beating myself up very nicely thinking my very precious things were safe at this place. I have travelled the world and never ever has anything like this has ever happened ever! In all the vacation was not all that great, room was ok, food terrible, and dealing with the front desk asking many time for hotel bathrooms to be stocked with toilet paper, and many many other issues and problems that I did not complain about. This is not the kind of place I would recommend to anyone, do not waste your money.it is not safe or a place of any kind of integrity. I can confidently say this from what I had seen with the security aggressively pushing a woman around. I found out later it was a nasty push since she was a visitor of a friend from another person staying at the resort. And now my experience. Best advice…… stay away!! Never ever will I return to the Blau Arenal. Julia S
