You will come back to the Boomerang

    rating15 Sept 2025

I ave been to te Boomerang so many times they call me Uncle. It's that kinda place. I stayed in a ground floor room. Spotless! Enjoyed the Turkish breakfast and they kept the tea coming. I walked to Ephesus and climbed up te hill thru the St John Church ruins to the castle on the top. The Boomerang is run by a super friendly family. Selcuk is a lovely little town and there are friendly restaurants and bars. Turkish hospitality at its best hamdullah çağıran, İşletme Sahibi at Boomerang Guesthouse, responded to this review Thank you uncle, hope to see you bye bye

    I’d love to return!

Hamdullah has put together a very lovely hostel, which he has owned for the past twenty years! Upon arriving late in the evening, I was greeted very kindly and provided a ton of helpful information about how to explore the ancient city! He even went out of his way to help me plan my next day and went above and beyond helping me resolve technical issues to buy a bus ticket to Istanbul for the following day! Aside from his genuine friendless and eagerness to help, the hostel was very much clean, well situated and comfortable! hamdullah çağıran, İşletme Sahibi at Boomerang Guesthouse, responded to this review thankıng you we hope to see you again

Beware: worst accomodation experience in Turkey

    rating02 Jul 2023

I booked a room for 2 people at Boomerang Guest House and paid around our usual price, AUD$45/28 euros a night. Dorm beds were quoted at AUD $19/night. When we arrived at the guesthouse in March 2023,  they said we had booked a dormitory room (mixed dorm) and pointed to some Turkish words on the booking confirmation which,  according to them, said we had booked a dormitory bed for each of us. That was not what was indicated when I went through the booking process, which stated I was booking a room, not a dormitory. The owner stonewalled and said we would have to pay extra to upgrade to a room of our own. That was odd, since the room I booked was the 'last one available' at the time, yet they had at least three spare private rooms. They claim that the problem stems from the fact that they only have a relationship with Expedia and something has gone wrong when they (Expedia) have shared the information with Agoda. At that point I confirmed with him that this same situation had happened before (for months!): he blamed Agoda for using the Turkish words to describe the room.  I said that if this was a situation which had misled people before,  then he needed to be the one to ensure it was fixed. He could easily contact guests beforehand to let them know,  in English,  their reservation was for a dormitory,  until the booking process was fixed. But never did. I contacted him prior to arrival about the check in time but he did not respond (He received the message on WhatsApp via his brother: he made the excuse that the phone number on Agoda is out of date and doesn't go directly to him). Of course, the whole excuse was simply deflection: blame some other third party and avoid accountability. Coincidentally, another person arrived as we were at reception who had experienced the exact same situation. She had booked what she thought was a room for her and her traveling companion but the two young girls were told they were sleeping downstairs in a dormitory with men. Her traveling companion left immediately and the Malaysian girl was left by herself. She booked through Agoda and also felt assured she had booked a private  room.  By then I could see a pattern emerging and thought this could be a scam. Sell a room for a normal price,  then charge more on arrival,  pointing to some Turkish words on the booking which talked about it being a dormitory that we'd unsuspectingly signed up for. When I questioned the owner why the only indication it was a dormitory was written in Turkish,  he said he didn't know and again put the blame on Agoda. I said that given people had been misled even before our arrival,  it was his responsibility to ensure changes to the wording were made. What made it even more suspicious was that when I took him through the process I undertook to make the booking on the Agoda app,  not only did I show him it clearly talked about booking a room, not a bed and no mention of a dormitory,  there were no dorm pictures shown AND even tonight as I showed him the process it claimed to be the last room available despite the fact that there were at least three vacant rooms free to rent for that tonight. When you go through the booking process (and I invite you to go through to the stage just before sliding to book, to confirm what I say) for the 'last room available '  the words Ortak kullanimli oda appear (apparently indicating a dorm) and directly beneath these words are:Max 2 adults (obviously not a dormitory) Then in the panel below, the words: 1 Room 2 adults 0 kids(Again, a room, not a bed, obviously not a dormitory)Every part of this that is written in English makes it clear this is booking a room not a bed in a dormitory. The next page where you can slide to book shows a double bed and the words:2 adults max guests for selected deal Making it clear that this is booking a room for 2 adults. It appears that the guesthouse is baiting by making a cheap 'room' available,  switching it to a dormitory on arrival then upselling, asking a much higher price, for the actual rooms that were always vacant but not advertised as available.  Interesting also is that he made the rate non-refundable to have a hold over you while you're there. He refused to provide the room we had paid for and insisted we pay more for a private room or sleep in the dormitory. We said we would leave (despite it being after  8pm) to find somewhere else to which he replied he would 'help' us by selling us a room at a far higher price. We had had enough: clearly he would not take any responsibility for the situation,  so we said we would provide reviews that detailed what they were doing. He insisted it was Expedias and Agoda's fault but finally offered us to stay just one night in a private room if I agreed to contact Agoda. We stayed one night but after the the way we were treated made alternative arrangements for the other two nights. Agoda sat on the fence, offered some credit on future bookings (in the mistaken belief I'd ever trust them again: I didn't accept the credit because I'll never use their platform again) and as of today (3 July 2023) the scam continues and Agoda has done nothing to rectify the situation or make the owner fix it. I tried to warn people via a review on Agoda but they would not post it on their platform, so they were not allowing their 'valued' customers to become aware of the situation, so I have put it here. I now realise that the reviews they show must be censored which creates bias towards positive reviews. I leave it to you to judge whether this whole episode is deceptive and misleading conduct from one or both of the other parties involved.

very good quiet location, beautifully appointed accommodation

    rating30 Apr 2023

This is a beautifully designed and well-maintained accommodation option. There is a variety of options, including dormitory. The rooms are very comfortable and the hosts are bilingual and very welcoming. This is within walking distance of the Temple of Artemis and the Citadel, as well as St John's Basilica.

Once again I ha e come back to the Boomerang. Now run by the lovely Gamze and Hamdullah, brother of Huseyin and Abdullah, who have run the place in previous years.Affordable, friendly, good food, clean beds and facilities I am in the dorm, with a few friendly strangers. In the past, with my wife, we stayed in their double rooms. I recommend both.An added bonus is the Garden Restaurant where I enjoyed lovely breakfast and evening meals.Close to the bus station, museum and railway to Izmir Airport. I travelled by train from their to Selcuk for 25 tl, £1.20..
