    wonderful time

The Hotel was much better then I expected for a 2 star. So for me luxury at a bargain price and the place was spotlessly clean and the staff could not have been more helpful .I went when it can be very hot in Turkey but not so for Cesme there was a refreshing light breeze. So few Brits about it was heaven. A place to definitely return to and I will particularly because it was one of the safest places that I have ever been to.

Things you MUST KNOW before you go to CESME Turkey

    rating12 Aug 2008

My 9 year old son and I have just returned from a 1 week holiday in Cesme Turkey staying at the Kanarya Hotel.May I begin by saying I thoroughly enjoyed the week mainly because of the people we met both fellow travellers and locals and outstanding weather. The Kanarya Hotel is 2 star, so please don't expect much. The rooms are small, basic and are cleaned daily. In our room some electric sockets hung out of the wall and the shower head leaked much to the amuzement of my son but besides that it was what I expected, ie a TV, no fridge or kettle. So bring a travel kettle as I did (smarty pants I know). The hotel itself is clean and the staff are pleasant and welcoming. However if you order food either in the hotel or in the town, be prepared to wait and wait and wait, if it comes at all. Do keep reminding the waiter you are still here! The downside to the hotel is there are no childrens or disabled facilities. If they added a pool table, a dart board and a fridge where you could purchase ice creams, this would make a positive difference. Compared to other places I've stayed in Turkey the bar prices both in the hotel and in Cesme are high. ie 10ytl for 1 shot of vodka with no mixer and 6ytl for a small bottle of beer, 3ytl for a tin of coke. At the time of writing the exchange rate is £1= 2.1ytl (Turkish Lira) .The town of Cesme itself is beautiful. Built around its amazing castle which was built in 1508 and represents typical Ottoman Sultan Bayezid architecture. The stunning seafront looks over to the Greek island of Chios. On this front are the main tourist restaurants, where as the side streets contain more traditional eateries. The food I ate was second to none but again a bit pricey for Turkey as was the drinks. Nightlife here is non existant unless you want to dance to middle eastern music which was being played in the towns 2 night clubs continuously. Bars are few and far between. There are no large food chains or chainstores, come to think of it there are no large shops. There is little English signage in any establishments and you will not here an English accent while walking down the street. Having said that when you approach the local workers in the shops, restaurants and other establishments and try to communicate with them, they will make a big effort and usually do speak broken English. The way I looked at it was their English was better than my Turkish. My son and I took a boat trip from one of the local boats. The scenery was amazing, the lunch delicious, the staff hospitable but again it was all Turkish people and no English was spoken over the loudspeaker system. We had a wonderful time having met a couple from Izmir with no English and luckily Olson who did and the 5 of us communicated well.I almost forgot to mention the entertainment on the boat was a transvestite belly dancer. Being open minded I just took it in my stride but could see how some may be offended by this but I was not..In reflection I would advise if you want a relaxing poolside holiday with nothing much to do - go to Cesme. If you want a family holiday with kids entertainment and the ability to may be even wheel granny about - forget Cesme. If you want a party holiday with loads of drinking and partying - definitely forget it.

Lovely Hotel and very good value for money

    rating16 Sept 2007

The prices for Cesme hotels seem a little steep when you look on the internet, we had holidayed for 4 years to Cesme and this year decided we would DIY. We booked the flight and found the Hotel Kenarya for £15.00 per night for two. Which might we could afford the children to have a separate room. The rooms were cleaned daily and were onsuite, included was Air Con and a Turkish Breakfast. The breakfast consisted of fresh bread, cheese, olives, tomatoes, eggs and cucumber with tea, coffee and orange juice. It was fresh every day. The hotel is next to the Piril and has a huge swimming pool. It is family run and they are very friendly. Would stay again it was lovelyThanks to Philip and everyone at the noproblem bar for making our holiday so enjoyable.
