Discriminatory treatment and poor service at reception by 1 particular female staff with dreadlocks.

    rating11 Apr 2026

Discriminatory treatment and poor service at reception by 1 particular female staff. I recently stayed at the Ibis Genève Centre Lac, booking three rooms. While the male staff members were excellent and very helpful, my experience was significantly marred by the unprofessional behavior of one female receptionist with dreadlocks.Key Issues:Unprofessional Conduct & Language: This staff member lacked the professional grooming and welcoming demeanor expected at a front desk. Most notably, her language was highly inappropriate for a hotel setting; she asked us, "Qui dort avec qui ?" (Who is sleeping with whom?). This is a very blunt, informal, and unprofessional way to inquire about room assignments.Lack of Communication: I arrived early and was happy to wait in the lounge. However, she made me feel completely unseen while she spent time chit-chatting, ignoring the fact that I was waiting right in front of her. It was only at 3:00 PM that she finally informed me she is now going to "check" if the rooms were ready. I fail to understand why there was no proactive follow-up or why I was only updated so late. Even if I had to wait longer, I would done so but why was it done when I came back to check again at the reception. Technical & Logical Issues: Once in the room, the TV could not be connected to the Wi-Fi. Furthermore, she gave a confusing explanation regarding the 24/7 coffee machine, claiming I could be charged for milk because it wasn't currently inside the machine.Concerning Bias:Most upsetting was the clear bias in her service; she was noticeably more helpful and courteous to white guests. It was shocking to experience this discriminatory tone, especially as we both come from African countries. Whether it was because I may appear of Indian descent or otherwise, the bias was evident and made me feel unwelcome. The rest of the staff were excellent, but this individual's behavior was unacceptable. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. Nathalie Maurel, General Manager at ibis Geneve Centre Lac, responded to this review Dear Dany,Thank you for sharing your experience at Ibis Genève Centre Lac. I'm truly sorry to hear that your stay was affected by feeling you had with the behavior of one of our reception team members. We truly strive to provide a welcoming atmosphere for all our guests.Your comments about the professionalism and courtesy of our staff are taken seriously. I will ensure your feedback regarding the interaction you had to the correct person, hoyever our colleague is very know for her welcoming approach. I want to believe that it is just a wrong perception / interpretation that you had when you arrived ! But we will check with her anyway. We always aim to maintain a high standard of customer service, and it’s disappointing to learn we fell short in this instance.Thank you once again for bringing these issues to my attention. I hope to welcome you back for a more pleasant stay in the future.

    Great Stay, Relaxing short break

    rating23 Mar 2026

Location; approx. 5 minutes from the station and a 10 minute walk to the lake. Lots of restaurants close by of all nationalities.Atmosphere: Friendly, helpful staff, clean facilities. Felt safe at night walking around, no sign of red light district clientele, wouldn't have known they existed, if I hadn't read previous reviews!!Double Room; decent size, we were on the 5th floor, noise from the road but had the windows shut and the air conditioning on, which worked very well. After all it is a city centre hotel. Room was made up and cleaned every day to a high standard.Amenities: Breakfast: plentiful, lots of choice. Use of hot drinks machine throughout the day.Kevin was always willing to help, polite and friendly. Nathalie Maurel, General Manager at ibis Geneve Centre Lac, responded to this review Hi RoseB,Thank you so much for taking the time to share your lovely experience with us! Comfortable hotel

    rating22 Mar 2026

ibis geneve lac is a nice, comfortable hotel in a convenient location—easy to reach from the main train station and close to everything you need. The room was lovely, clean, and comfortable, making for a pleasant stay. The only downside was the outdoor noise, which meant keeping the windows closed at night. Aside from that, it’s a very good hotel and a pleasant place to stay. Nathalie Maurel, General Manager at ibis Geneve Centre Lac, responded to this review Dear Quinton J,Thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and found our hotel comfortable and conveniently located. I appreciate your feedback about the outdoor noise; we understand how important a good night's sleep is. While we strive to create a peaceful environment, the lively surroundings can sometimes be a challenge. We hope to welcome you back for another pleasant stay in the future!Best wishes,
