It is a 15-minute drive from Balmoral Castle, the holiday home of the British Royal Family, and is 50 km from Aberdeen.

The reception desk in the lobby is staffed round the clock. Services such as a baggage storage service and a safe ensure a comfortable stay. Beautiful old establishment, lovely lounges, pleasant atmosphere, warm welcome at reception. Very good food but unpleasant service.Small room with dreary decor. Tiny bathroom in poor condition. No tissues or bottled water. Dirty carpets and rugs.

The lack of hot water for a shower in the morning is not acceptable in a hotel that is rated 4 star.The receptionists attitude when I complained was very poor. The Balmoral Hotel is situated in the town square a few minutes walk from shops, cafes and pubs. There are numerous countryside walks and cute villages nearby. Fantastic destination overall. Friends and I recently stayed at the Balmoral arms where we had a fantastic stay. The hotel is located in the heart of Ballater and has a great atmosphere. The rooms were spacious and the food was delicious. My personal favourite was the Chicken Balmoral. All staff were attentive and happy to pass on local knowledge. We soon built up a great rapport with Lesley, who also quickly and professionally rectified a minor issue caused by poor planning from our group. We are already looking at putting plans in place to return to the hotel in the summer months.
