Absolutely filthy room – unacceptable condition

    rating25 Sept 2026

Absolutely filthy room – unacceptable conditionI am currently staying at the Savoy Hotel in Blackpool and I am genuinely shocked by the condition of the room. This isn't a case of the hotel simply being dated or needing refurbishment. The basic level of cleanliness is unacceptable.I have taken numerous photographs because I don't think people would believe the condition of some of it otherwise. There is dirt and grime around the room, areas that appear to have mould, filthy windows and windowsills that clearly haven't been properly cleaned, and insects/debris around the window area. There are thick accumulations of dust in places, including on top of fittings and furniture. The bathroom is in poor condition, with dirty areas around the edges and fittings showing significant deterioration. Some metal fittings are badly discoloured and corroded. The ironing board is absolutely covered in stains and looks like something that should have been thrown away a long time ago.The carpet is also heavily stained in several places, including some very unpleasant-looking white marks. I obviously cannot say what caused the stains, but I certainly don't want to speculate! The heating doesn't work properly either. The radiator and thermostat look like they've seen considerably better days.We were also expecting a sea view, but the windows are so dirty that even looking through them properly is difficult.Unfortunately, breakfast didn't rescue the experience. The food was swimming in grease. The sausages and mushrooms in particular were so greasy that I couldn't eat them. What makes this particularly disappointing is that many of these problems aren't expensive refurbishment issues. Cleaning dust, wiping windowsills, removing dirt and insects, properly cleaning a bathroom and replacing a badly stained ironing-board cover are basic housekeeping.I appreciate that this is an older Blackpool hotel and I'm not expecting five-star luxury. I can happily accept dated décor and an older building. What I cannot accept is a room that hasn't been cleaned properly.I have photographs documenting the condition of the room and will be raising this directly with hotel management.Based on the room I was given and my experience during this stay, I could not recommend it.

    Excellent value for money.

This is our second visit to the Savoy and once again we had a lovely time. Excellent value for money. Our room was clean and comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee and if you used it all you could help yourself from reception. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was always hot plentiful and tasty. Great location and parking is a bonus. Thank you for having us and can't wait to return.

    100% Value for money.

    rating19 Sept 2026

I booked 3 rooms for my family, having stayed at Britannia’s previously I knew what I was getting, however I was pleasantly surprised, yes the hotel is old but you can see there is investment going on, we got some great rooms that had adjoining rooms with a settee, couple of chairs, coffee machine and mini bar fridge. (Empty of course) Decent bar open until midnight average £5 a pint wasn’t bad at all. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful and I’m sure there’s no screening criteria for guests so it’s wrong to comment on other guest’s behaviour - you could get these anywhere. I didn’t go inspecting or doing dust checks I just took it all on face value and I was well pleased with it. - what I will tell you is it was 25% of the price of another chain I often stay.

Charming old hotel clean and comfortable and overlooking the sea .

    rating17 Sept 2026

What a lovely hotel ,in a great location on the north side of Blackpool so it was very quiet .Across the road from the sea too . The whole place was clean and warm and very comfortable ,we were given a family room it was wonderful with ensuite bathroom and shower the water pressure was excellent and the hot water very very hot ,the bedroom had 2 double beds and a single bed ,a seating area too and a good sized TV on wall .Free wifi throughout .Checking in was very quick and easy and the staff were very friendly .There is no room service during your stay ,but anything you needed was available from reception ,ie toilet rolls ,tea coffee ,milk sugar we were there for 5 nights and there was ample tea ,coffee ,milk ,sugar , plenty of towels too . We like to spread our stuff about when we are in a hotel in our room ,so not having to put our stuff away every day was great . People leave bad reviews about this hotel ,but when people abuse the place ,like kicking doors on picking wall paper off ,it isn't the hotels fault ,and some people have no respect . There is plenty of choice of hotels in blackpool and some put up pictures that are not representative of the hotel ,the savoy shows the actual rooms ,no Ai inhancement to make the place look something it isn't as we have found in previous years . If you want gold taps and fixtures and fittings then the savoy is not for you ,but if like us you just want somewhere to put your head down each night then the savoy is perfect . Previous reviews have mentioned the beds being uncomfortable and the mattresses in our room let you feel the springs when lying in bed ,so yes they were a bit uncomfortable ,but it wasn't a major issue . Parking onsite is free and there is some free parking on the road along side the hotel ,all perfectly safe .we parked up and left the car where it was for the 5 days ,there is tram and bus stops right outside the Savoy too so you don't have to walk into the main areas of Town . We didn't have breakfast during our stay but other guests told us that the breakfast was buffet style and that it was very nice both cold and hot options . Staff were very helpful and friendly .Our room was on the second floor ,if mobility is an issue for you there is a lift but it is only small so not any use if you have big mobility scooters ,wheel chairs etc . Entry into bedrooms is via a key card you just tap it on the electronic pad on the door and when that lights up green you push the handle down and push the door open .When leaving the hotel you just leave your key cards in a box at reception ,no standing in a queue at reception to check out . The inside of the hotel has some stunning features too ,it is an old hotel with plenty of old charm , so if modern is your thing then look elsewhere as there are some newly built hotels in blackpool ,but come at a cost too to stay there .The hotel is having some roof repairs done so there is scaffolding across the front of the hotel at the moment but it won't be for ever . There is a bar where you can get a drink in the evening and there are ladies and gents toilets down stairs so you don't have to go back to your room .

    Rock and roll weekend

    rating17 Sept 2026

Me and my mum went to a Rock and Roll weekend at the Savoy Hotel and mum had booked a sea view but when we checked in and went to the room there was scaffolding up so we went down to tell reception they offered another room which we looked at but didn't like so went and said we would stay where we were they were very helpful and gave us a free bottle of wine apart from that the food was excellent but the ballroom was too hot which spoiled it a bit as we couldn't dance
