    Nightclub not hotel

    rating06 Jun 2026

Stayed overnight. The room was clean, single bed comfy, only one sash window stayed open, the others including the shower room slammed shut and all in need of decoration. Shower room clean although shower head caked in limescale which was unpleasant, sealant breaking up and poor water pressure as mentioned by other guests. No breakfast served anymore as new ownership seems to rely on in house late night drinking and clubbing to make ends meet. Creaky floorboards everywhere and on checking in, we were informed of live music that night but that our rooms were not overlooking the nightclub. Wrong! My room was above it, overlooking the area and the very loud bass thudding with varying tempo drowned out most of the music but continued until around 5am which wasn't mentioned. On that basis I'll never stay there again as a night's sleep was missed and I had a long onward car journey. Terrible.

    Disappointed after over 30 years

    rating28 May 2026

After over 30 years of using the Royal Exeter hotel we wont be using it again. New management means no breakfast which has always been popular and excellent here in the past. Loud noise from bar below means no sleep till it stops about 1 or 2 in the morning!!! And £15 per night charge for parking!!

Just wrong 💯 the dirtiest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in . But after A 42 hour shift. I didn’t have the energy to complain and get a room change. TV was broken it turned on but sounded like it would probably catch fire. It would probably take 3 weeks to fill the bath. And I fixed the shower button. To find out the shower was worse than the bath. And just to top it off I’ve probably got to get a tetanus shot. The amount of bites I’ve got now . Don’t stop in room 218

    Weekend stay

    rating02 May 2026

Hotel is in need of a refurbishment. The room had no hot water, very creaky floor boards, windows which are rotten and single pained, the pillows were flat and the toilet seat was broken, however it was clean and the facilities were ok.The biggest issue with the hotel is the attached bar/nightclub which went on until the early hours with revellers hanging around past 2am.The bar area and server was very nice. The location was excellent. If you want a quiet nights sleep on a weekend this hotel is probably not for you.

Don't waste your money!!! Horrible hotel!

    rating02 May 2026

Pros.....The one star is for the location!!Lovely bar area in the day!!!!Cons....If you love a 1980 vibe with dirty carpets, faded curtains, orange pine furniture, artex ceilings and of course the shower over the bath this is the place for you.Dirty and dusty, didn't have a shower as the head was disgusting (see picture) but also there's no hot water anyway!!!Radiator bits just chucked onto the floor where broken, broken tiles and just generally yukk!!!Car parking is £15 Now we did have an email saying there's a lively atmosphere in the evening and there maybe some noise!!! So you think how bad can it be!!!Trust me it's BAD!!! We ventured to the so called sophisticated club (there's two attached to the hotel!! One either side so it makes noooo difference where your room is!) and the vibe in the day is lovely at night it is jam packed, no room to move! Stayed till 1am and thought it's ok there's only an HR to go according to the email until it closes at 2am!Total lie the constant banging that even with earplugs you can here is like trying to sleep next to a washing machine with trainers banging around for hours! This went on until 4am!!!! Then of course you then have the chuck out time when everyone is shouting and screaming leaving!! These people are not moved away from the hotel quickly! We now know the ins and outs of Charlene and Gary's shenanigans!! Would definitely not recommend unless you plan on clubbing till the early hours!!!
