Expensive for what it offers but clean and cool rooms with decent breakfast

    rating01 Jul 2026

Solid but expensive hotel in the centre of Cambridge. Rooms were spacious and clean but both the room itself and especially the bathroom were tired and greatly in need of upgrading. In-room tech was very much last-decade with UK plugs and USB-A sockets. I only carry USB-C charging now with my tech, but at least there were 3-pin plugs located around, so that was something as I had brought a USB-C connector plug with me. Bathroom very tired and old style shower over bath with shower curtain, which I greatly dislike on multiple dimensions. For this room price and in this class of hotel, the bathroom needs either a separate shower cubicle or a fixed glass splash protector on the bath. The water pressure was OK.Air con was good, once it actually worked, which needed help from the service team. Stayed there across the hottest days of the year so far and once operational the room stayed wonderfully cool at all times. No tropical night sleeping problems. The air con fan was best kept to Low as it could become a little rackety at higher settings. Again, a service and some upgrading would be needed to bring it into line with the best climate control systems available in business hotels nowadays.Staff were generally OK, with a very professional and competent duty manager. However, with other staff, it was more mixed. At reception on check-in, the first words to me from the reception person were "Can I see some ID" rather than any tone of warmth or words of welcome. I get security is important in this day and age, but this was not passport control, nor was I trying to enter a government building, but check-in to a hotel and I expect a warmer welcome. The breakfast team were welcoming and friendly, and the spread was the expected Full English - hearty and a good start to the day. I didn't eat dinner in the hotel as I had business commitments on each evening but the menu looked OK, if unspectacular. The usual range of items.Cost was met by the client so had neutral impact on my choice, but I would say that the rooms are expensive for what they now provide and how they provide it in 2026.

Excellent location, impressive lobby. But dated room

    rating20 Jun 2026

Excellent central location. Impressive lobby. But room disappointingly dated. And central location means expensive parking, beware!Reassuringly clean. Richard Finn, General Manager at Hilton Cambridge City Centre, responded to this review Dear DocHoliday222,Thank you so much for your review and for choosing us to stay with us during your recent visit to Cambridge. The team and I are delighted you found the location suitable, clean and enjoyed our public spaces. We're aware our rooms are due an update and you'll be happy to hear this is already planned to begin from 1st October this year.In regard to the car parking charge, this does come at a charge due to the lack of parking facilities in the City Centre and the cost to provide this. We are however very competitively priced against the other larger parking facilities for the same period of time. Thank you again and happy travels, Richard.

A lovely hotel let down by exec lounge experience

    rating07 Jun 2026

We enjoyed a 3 night stay as part of a 9 night Hilton UK break. This hotel is so central with everything in walking distance and surrounded by shops and restaurants. In addition our room was good - clean and spacious - and the valet parking is a bonus (be aware it is £35 per night so quite pricey). Most of the staff were a pleasure and so attentive. Unfortunately the staff in the exec lounge did not engage in any pleasantries which we found to be most unusual and different to how all other staff operated - always smiling and wishing guests a good day. Having never really done a poor review I find this difficult to write but as I informed Marie (or Maria) at reception this morning we found our experience in the exec lounge to not be a Hilton experience and her attitude was quite frankly not up to standard of the Hilton brand, nor did she seem concerned when I said I would be writing a review. The same applies for the duty manager last night who begrudgingly allowed us to order a pizza (which we paid for) in the lounge. Our pizza order was because the food in the lounge was so run down to bare minimum last night (see photo) - the remaining two bits of cheese had been removed, no hot food for the last hour and the remains of salad and pasta. It was disappointing that this Hilton thinks good customer service was to allow us to eat in the lounge without addressing the primary issue. This should have been a 5 star review! Richard Finn, General Manager at Hilton Cambridge City Centre, responded to this review Dear carolineandandy68,Thank you so much for your review and feedback, and I am sorry you had cause to write this complaint on this platform. I am so happy you found the location of this hotel and the majority of our team willing to help you, however I am devastated by your feedback on the Executive Lounge experience. Whilst the food offering is not meant to provide a meal, only canapes and hors d'oeuvres, I can only sincerely apologise for the lack of engagement and attitude with the host in the Lounge and the team member on Reception (we don't have a Maria/Marie, so I am not sure with whom you spoke). In addition, I am sorry for the interaction with the Duty Manager. Whilst it's true we do not usually allow outside cooked food in the Executive Lounge as it's an enclosed space and food smells overpower and linger, as well as setting a precedent for all other guests, I only wish they had been able to make it right for you in a better way. Please be assured this is not our usual level of service and I apologise for these failures on this occasion. The team will be made aware of your feedback to do better in the future. For your reference, our overnight parking rate of £35 is reasonable for Cambridge as the multi-storey car park next to the hotel is more expensive for the same time period, and we do provide secure and undercover valet parking.Thank you again for your feedback and safe travels, Richard.

    Amazing stay

    rating31 May 2026

I had a very pleasant stay and would gladly return in the future. The hotel enjoys an excellent city-centre location, making it convenient for exploring the area and getting around with ease. The staff were friendly, professional, and attentive throughout my stay, providing excellent service from start to finish. I particularly appreciated being accommodated with an early check-in, and the £50 deposit was refunded immediately upon checkout, making the process smooth and stress-free.The room was spacious, comfortable, and well-maintained, contributing to an enjoyable overall experience. That said, there are a few areas where the hotel could improve. The room did not include a fridge, bathrobe, or slippers—amenities I would normally expect. In addition, the soundproofing could be better, as conversations and noise from neighbouring rooms were clearly audible.Despite these minor shortcomings, the hotel's outstanding location, welcoming staff, and seamless check-in and check-out experience far outweighed any negatives. Overall, it was a very positive stay, and I would highly recommend it. Richard Finn, General Manager at Hilton Cambridge City Centre, responded to this review Dear MadamMayana,Thank you for taking the time to post your review on tripadvisor.com following your recent visit to the Hilton Cambridge City Centre.I was delighted to note that you enjoyed your stay at the hotel, and in particular the service from the team. Please be assured that I have passed your very kind comments to all staff concerned. For your reference, we do provide mini-fridges, bathrobes and slippers in our Executive Rooms and Suites, however the bathrobes and slippers are available on request for our Standard rooms from our Housekeeping team. With thanks once again and I look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back to the Hilton Cambridge City Centre in the very near future. Take care and safe travels, Richard.
