Location

This city hotel is located at the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town with a magnificent view of the castle. Tourist attractions such as the Royal Mile, Holyrood House, Dynamic Earth and Princess Street are close at hand. There are scores of restaurants, bars, club and nightclubs in the surrounding area and public transport departs from a stop directly in front of the hotel.

Facility

171 double rooms are located on 5 storeys and can be reached by lift. The reception desk is open round the clock. Amenities include a cloakroom, baggage storage service, safe and cash machine. Wireless internet access allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. There are a number of shops as well. Additional facilities include a TV room. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the car park.     When we arrived in the late afternoon we were told our room was having maintenance performed, the clerk asked the manager if we could be put in another room and she refused, so we were given drink chits for the bar. About 45 minutes later we were told our room was ready - when we entered the room it stank of sewage, disgusting! My husband went down, while he was gone I opened the drapes to get a view of the castle and the curtain rod fell down on me - when the manager came up she finally transferred us to another room. The manager was just short of rude, not at all apologetic or pleasant. That evening we went to the bar for a a quick bite to eat and ordered Caesar salads - they were just lettuce loaded with mayo, 2-3 strips of chicken. a tsp of parm cheese and 2-3 croutons. It was inedible. We had to wipe off the mayo to eat the lettuce. Breakfast the next morning was better, but nothing special. Overall the experience was not positive and I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

    Rooms were very warm without air conditioning. Difficult to locate fan near window to draw in cooler air ( lack of nearby electrical outlets). Bath tub way too high and difficult to enter and exit.     Had a wonderful stay here. Room, dining and the hotel itself was beautifully presented. Stayed for a birthday and the birthday package was amazing. Room service was brilliant. All staff were very attentive and helpful throughout our stay and made us feel so welcome. Breakfast was delicious.     Good location but very noisy at night. Staff unfriendly. Appearance is very shabby. Curtains,carpet,common areas all need repair. Common areas poorly lit to hide dirt. Entrance requires hauling up suitcases about a dozen steps and staff never offered to help. They are not at door. Didn’t use pool because appears dirty. Lying about view from roof.     Excellent location right in the heart of Grassmarket. The room was roomy, clean and comfortable. Splurge on the castle view with a balcony. It made for such a special stay in Edinburgh.
