Excellent location, great service, small rooms

    rating04 Sept 2025

CityRoomz was sold to Marriott and became Four Points Sheraton a few weeks before our stay.We stayed at the hotel for seven nights. The location is absolutely excellent. Excellent walkable area. There is a grocery store across the street, bus stop for the airport was right out front. There were many excellent restaurants nearby. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and the hotel was quiet.Negatives: The rooms are small. We were initially in a double room which was smaller than what we were led to believe from the website. There was no where to store our luggage and limited space for your clothes and personal belongings. There was less than two feet between the wall and bed on each side. The bathroom was extremely small and there was no where to place toiletries. Upon request we were upgraded to a King and this was greatly appreciated. If we had not been upgraded we likely would have moved to another hotel. The King room was also small but we were reasonably comfortable. The rooms are small for longer stays. The pictures online do not accurately portray the rooms. There is no restaurant in the hotel and there was no mini fridge in the room nor available if requested. A mini fridge would be beneficial for guests with longer stays. Each night we purchased breakfast items for the next morning. We had to choose items which did not need to be refrigerated. The mirror was on a wall by the door rather than by the desk and plug in.The bathroom is compact and it would be helpful to have a small shelf by the sink. We had to keep some toiletries on the floor under the sink. The sink was very small and after washing up, there was water all over the floor, it was unavoidable.I recognize we are accustomed to larger spaces in Canada and I will take this into consideration when booking a hotel for our next Europe trip.

Good location. No laundry or refrigerator.

For us, as budget travellers, there were a few things that were great about this hotel, and a few things that weren't so great. On the big plus side, it was relatively inexpensive and extremely well located. Not only was it only a 5 minute walk from the West End tram stop (we caught the tram direct from the airport), but it was also only a 15 minute walk from Waverley train station, a 30 minute walk from Edinburgh Castle, and a 45 minute walk from Holyroodhouse Palace. Where the hotel was situated enabled us to walk everywhere except from the airport. The downsides, as budget travellers who were only travelling with one small backpack each, is that there was no guest laundry, or any laundrette in the local area (receptionist handed us a map with an 'x' on it, saying he 'thought' there was a laundrette. When we got there and talked to a few shop owners in that area, they said there had never been a laundry anywhere in that entire region, so not sure what the receptionist was on about!). The room also had no fridge or microwave, but having Sainsbury's, Gregg's and a heap of fast food places in the immediate area meant we could do without the fridge (it just meant cereal was off the cards for breakfast while we stayed here). The supermarket, in particular, was directly across the street from the hotel, and had everything we could have wanted or needed, so didn't need to indulge in buying much elsewhere.Would I stay here again? Probably not. I loved the location, and the room was clean and well set out, with plenty of room for two of us, but I'll be searching out a hotel with a laundry and refrigerators in the room next time

    Clean, comfortable, easy to locate

    rating28 Jun 2025

Room was basic but clean, the bed was very comfortable. Room had a TV, kettle with teas/coffees, small bathroom with a shower. Our room faced the main road so we were worried about noise but it was very quiet. Hotel was very easy to locate and check in was quick. Staff are on reception 24/7. Air con/heating was great. We attended a wedding at the Ghillie Dhu which is a 1 min walk from the hotel. There's no parking on site, but there is an NCP car park at Castle Terrace which you'll received a discounted rate for (£18 instead of £35 for 24 hours) My only issue with hotel was the cleaners on both mornings were speaking to each other very loudly through rooms and in the corridor at 7/8am, which was very rude.

Noisy stay, beware of renovations.Good location/staff but very budget feeling for a not so budget price

    rating24 Jun 2025

Let’s start with the positives-this hotel is in a good location & staff were lovely, it was clean & had basics like kettle, iron, hairdryer etc. we arrived at 3:30pm- check in advertised as 3pm this is where it started to go wrong-despite being half an hour later than check in our room wasn’t ready so we were allocated another-they are renovating the hotel & we had a room right next to ongoing recommendations, it was freshly decorated with the overpowering paint smell to prove it, room basic, small, only one pillow each. We were facing the street & lots of buses & trams pass until late/what felt like most of the night, no air conditioning so not choice but to open window & let noise in as the fan provided was stupidly rattly/noisy. The toilet also dripped water from the cistern all night so after a terrible nights sleep as it was we were woken at 7:30 by hammering, sawing & loud chat from the workers doing the remaining renovations in part of the hotel directly outside our room-not what you want on a relaxing night away with alarms set for a hoped for lie in! & we had no prior warning of this.To be fair when we mentioned this on check out we were given a £50 refund as goodwill-as I say staff were lovely. However as someone said below it’s a very budget hotel for non budget prices we had paid £168 for the night-Edinburgh hotel prices are becoming so high these days ,we have stayed in much nicer hotels with air conditioning, fridge, smart tvs for a little more than this & will stick to them going forward & booking well in advance to keep costs down

Real basic budget feel for not-that-budget prices; but clean and friendly.

    rating04 Jun 2025

Very basic and just been redecorated, however the pics on websites etc show - though small - nice brightly decorated rooms; however the refurb is a very drab depressing gray. Not good value for money - has a real hostel vibe with 4* pricing and very compact rooms. Bed and pillows not that comfortable either; like I say hostel vibe.Staff though were extremely polite, helpful and friendly. Shame about VFM and decor or it would be 5/5 on them alone! Cleanliness could not be faulted either.
