    Quality Service, Location, and Rooms!

    rating13 Jun 2026

Excellent location in the midst of a fairly touristy area. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful in getting us into our room quickly, booking a (very early) taxi for us to the airport in the morning. Additionally, a staff member made it a point to come down and make sure we got situated with our taxi early in the morning. It was clear they were looking out for us as guests.

Close to everything but far from an upscale experience

    rating28 May 2026

Replacing the historic Royal British Hotel, the Princes Street property of the Hotel Indigo brand unfortunately offers little beyond its convenient location from Waverley Station. Going up to reception on the second floor, guests are greeted by an overpowering fragrance that detracts from the charming décor. The renovated Victorian building also features tight hallways with awkward angles and additional steps. Although a standard room facing the street does offer glorious views of old town, poor housekeeping and maintenance sadly diminish the overall experience. Most notable were dusty surfaces, burnt-out lighting and worn furniture. The washroom was no better, with its uneven tile flooring, poor shower drainage, linty towels with holes, and a water-damaged door and baseboard. Even though a partial refund was provided for the lack of daily room cleaning, the impression that remains is a hotel chain just coasting on its prime locations. Steven Simpson, Owner at Hotel Indigo Edinburgh - Princes Street By IHG, responded to this review Dear Monkeyface09,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback regarding your recent stay with us. While I am pleased to hear that you appreciated our convenient location opposite Waverley Station and the views of Edinburgh’s Old Town, I am very sorry that several aspects of your experience fell short of expectations. Please accept my sincere apologies for the housekeeping and maintenance issues you encountered. The cleanliness and upkeep concerns you have described, including dusty surfaces, lighting defects, furniture condition, and the issues within the bathroom, are certainly not reflective of the standards we strive to maintain. Your comments have been shared with our housekeeping and maintenance teams for immediate review and corrective action.I also regret that the daily room servicing was not completed as expected. As you noted, a partial refund was provided during your stay in recognition of this shortcoming, but I understand that this does not change the disappointment caused by the experience itself. Our building's historic character does present certain architectural challenges, including varied layouts and level changes, but this should never come at the expense of comfort, cleanliness, or attention to detail. We are committed to preserving the charm of the property while continually investing in improvements to our facilities and guest experience.Thank you again for your honest and constructive feedback. While I regret that we did not leave you with a more favorable impression, your comments are invaluable in helping us identify areas where we must improve.Kind regards,Hotel Indigo Edinburgh Princes Street Team.

    Noisy

    rating22 May 2026

The hotel is on Prices Street opposite the train station and conveniently located for getting around Edinburgh. The team were polite, courteous and attentive. It is the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in. We had a city view room so facing the street so noise was expected. However, it was noisy all through the night- buses, road sweepers, vans and drunk people until 4am. Steven Simpson, Owner at Hotel Indigo Edinburgh - Princes Street By IHG, responded to this review Dear DCromwell,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent stay with us. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our convenient location opposite Waverley Station and found our team polite, courteous, and attentive throughout your visit. However, we are very sorry to learn that your stay was affected by noise disturbance from the street outside. Due to our central location on Princes Street, some level of city noise can unfortunately be expected, particularly in rooms facing the street with city views. We completely understand how disruptive this must have been to your rest, and we sincerely apologise that it impacted your overall experience so significantly.Should you choose to stay with us again in the future, please do let us know in advance and we will do our very best to allocate a quieter room away from the street, subject to availability.Thank you again for your valuable feedback. We truly appreciate your comments and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for a more restful stay in the future.Kind regards,Hotel Indigo Edinburgh Team

A Great Hotel, in a Great Location.

    rating16 May 2026

Situated right near the main train station, this hotel offers the wonderfully diffrent decors that this chain in noted for, in this case the literary theme is well covered in the books spines that make up the wall coverings and the footstools, as well as the repurposed typewriters, now doing duty as lamps. The room was clean and spacious, with an extremely comfortable bed and superior bed linen. Our bathroom was extremely clean and well stocked with fuffy towels and a heating rack. If you needed anything, help was just a phone call away and assistance came quickly. The in house bar was fantastic and in particular Anna, made our stay memorable with her friendly welcome and caring attitude, her smile and laughter brightened our day, and made us linger there. The breakfast was bountiful and filling, from the traditional to the simple fare of toast and cereal, in fact the meals were able to be made gluten free. The noise was a little much at the back of the building, when the bar at the end of the street threw out their used bottles, but that was infrequent at best, and otherwise it was what one should expect in a city as vibrant as Edinburgh. The price was worth every penny, as the room, bed and staff made our stay memorable. Recommend this place without reservation. Steven Simpson, Owner at Hotel Indigo Edinburgh - Princes Street By IHG, responded to this review Dear Barryd927,Thank you so much for your wonderful and detailed review. We are absolutely delighted to hear that you had such a memorable stay with us at Hotel Indigo Edinburgh Princes Street. It is fantastic to know that you enjoyed our literary-inspired décor and appreciated the unique design touches throughout the hotel. We take great pride in reflecting the character and history of Edinburgh within the property, so your comments are especially rewarding to read.We are also thrilled that you found your room spacious, clean, and comfortable, and that our team were able to provide prompt and attentive service whenever needed. Your kind remarks regarding our breakfast offering and gluten-free options are greatly appreciated as well. Most importantly, thank you for your special recognition of Anna in the bar. I will personally ensure your lovely comments are shared with her. She will be delighted to know that her warmth, friendliness, and caring attitude helped make your stay so enjoyable and memorable. While I appreciate your understanding regarding the occasional city noise, I am pleased this did not overshadow your overall experience. Edinburgh is indeed a vibrant city, and we are fortunate to be located right in the heart of it.Thank you once again for your glowing recommendation and thoughtful feedback. We truly hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back again in the near future.Kind regards,Hotel Indigo Princes Street Team

    Slipping standards

    rating21 Apr 2026

Second visit to this hotel, following a stay in a similar room (King Suite City View) last year that went well, this one showed a drop in their standards. Smart room (402) on first appearance. First noticed TV didn't work as 'weak or no signal'. Then tried to open windows, one kept sliding shut again. On checking out the shower room (nice and clean) noticed a switch on the wall between the shower cubicle and door that had a sharp brass spindle sticking out ready to catch clothing, or worse, skin. The control knob was obviously missing. Then, when showering later, the shower tray nearly flooded, turned out the chrome cap on the trap had been broken and just sat on the tray blocking it. Pushing it to the side cleared the water, just in time. And then the bracket holding the soap dispenser fell apart. How these got past the housekeeping crew only they know. Add to the poor service in the lounge bar (after seating us, the server totally ignored us) that was noticed by a few others, the service has definitely went downhill. The receptionist on checking out, professional as she was, did ask why we didn't ask about the niggles found above beforehand but what would have been done for a two day stay? We don't usually have much trouble with IHG hotels but adding in Edinburgh premium pricing they really should have done better here. Steven Simpson, Owner at Hotel Indigo Edinburgh - Princes Street By IHG, responded to this review Dear Kenneth,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We truly value hearing from our guests, and we are delighted to know that our location was convenient and contributed positively to your stay. That said, we are sincerely sorry to learn about the inconveniences you experienced during your visit. This is certainly not the standard of service we strive to provide, and we regret that we fell short on this occasion. Please accept our genuine apologies for any frustration caused. We would also like to kindly mention that our reception team is available at all times to assist with any concerns or requests during a guest’s stay. Had we been made aware of the issues at the time, we would have done everything possible to address them promptly or offer suitable alternatives to improve your experience.Your feedback is incredibly important to us, as it helps us identify areas where we can improve and better serve our guests in the future. We have shared your comments with the relevant teams to ensure that the necessary steps are taken.Once again, we sincerely apologize for the shortcomings you encountered. We truly hope that this experience will not define your overall impression of our hotel, and we would greatly appreciate the opportunity to welcome you back in the future for a much more enjoyable and seamless stay.Kind regards,Hotel Indigo Prince Street Team
