Location

This city hotel offers guests superb views over the famous Princes Street Gardens and Edinburgh Castle, lying opposite renowned Waverly Bridge, about 5 minutes' walk from the nearest railway station and 10 minutes from the bus station. Links to the public transport network are situated less than 20 metres from the hotel and it is some 12 km to Edinburgh Airport.

Facility

The hotel was built in 1860. The hotel has 158 non-smoking rooms, which are located on 8 storeys and are reachable by lift. English- and German-speaking staff at the reception desk in the lobby are ready to assist you with check-in and check-out. Amenities include a baggage storage service and a safe. Wireless internet access allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage (for a fee) or in the car park (for a fee). Rooms

    We had a wonderful stay, thanks to the amazing Michael at check-in. He couldn’t do enough for us and is a total asset to the Hotel. He should be a customer service manager for the whole Hotel group.     Lunch with friends in updated restaurant

    After the restaurant was closed for a couple of months, we were excited to try the upgraded premises & menu.We didn’t see much difference in surroundings, but very disappointed in the lunch menu.Everything seemed to be carb heavy. We all chose the chicken club sandwich. One between two would have been plenty.We did enjoy the fat chips.However, the excitement came when I ordered a pot of coffee. Simple request, but was told the had no coffee pots/ cafetières. The coffee came in a teapot! I wish I had taken a photo.Come on Mount Royal Hotel. Not all your lunch guests want alcohol & buy some cafeieres.     A dreadful lunch

    Today I went for lunch with friends at the restaurant. The staff were surly and so unwelcoming. The food portions were mediocre. When I asked if I may have some bread to go with my terrine it was as if I had no right to make the request. One member of the group had to wait twenty minutes after the rest of us had been given their coffee for her cappuccino. I resented having to pay the service charge as it was shockingly bad.     Visited the newly opened Eidyn restaurant for a family and friends birthday meal. Very classy and the views are amazing. There were 14 of us and from start to finish all the staff excelled themselves. They could not do enough for you. The menu was great and the food was excellent. I had the mussels then fish and triple cooked chips. Even loved the dinnerware it was served on. Highly recommend and visit there again very soon.
