    Poor Hospitality and Attitude

    rating06 Jun 2026

After a flight from Belfast I checked in at this Travelodge where a room had been booked, to discover two female staff members sitting at the reception desk chatting, so I approached and waited for attention. To my astonishment, they continued chatting. Eventually the female staff member directly in front of me, a middle aged woman whose physical appearance is best left not commented upon, very briefly looked up at me then shouted to someone in the background to come to the reception. A young American (I could tell from his accent) appeared and sat down and began checking me in by asking a series of questions, then issuing responses to my answers in what can only be described as a patronising manner. When he'd finished condescending to me I glanced again at the female staff member who had ignored me, in fact who had effectively snubbed me, and she continued to ignore me and chat with her co-worker. I was utterly astonished and perplexed, and walked to my room feeling very aggrieved. I must emphasise that the room was clean and comfortable and the location of this hotel was perfect. But the attitude of some staff members obviously needs to undergo some training in customer service to correct personality and attitudinal deficiencies. In sum, and in my personal experience and opinion, this hotel is a fantastic place to stay if you enjoy being ignored i.e. effectively snubbed, then patronised at reception when you check in, and it is for this reason that I'm giving it a one star review. If they don't have natural personal warmth and essential social skills, staff should be trained to make the effort to make guests feel welcome. It's the one thing a guest expects, and if you receive the opposite of hospitality you shall never return to that hotel. And I never will.

    Perfect stay

    rating05 Jun 2026

Great location downtown with a great staff. The room was just what we needed and was super comfortable. Great atmosphere inside the hotel. From the rooms to the restaurant. The hotel was quiet at night and outside. Rooms were clean and the price of the rooms and the bar were s great value. Breakfast was really good and worth the price. I will be coming back soon.

Great value, dog-friendly stay in the heart of Edinburgh

    rating05 Jun 2026

We stayed at this Travelodge again during our visit to Edinburgh, mainly because they warmly welcome our dog. Unlike some pet-friendly properties that can sometimes feel less maintained, this hotel is consistently clean, fresh, and well-kept. It’s a great example that accommodating pets does not mean compromising on cleanliness. One of the biggest advantages of this branch is its fantastic central location. The Royal Mile is just a short walk away, and Calton Hill is also nearby, making it easy to explore some of Edinburgh’s most iconic sights. During our stay, we spent most of our time walking around the city, visiting areas such as Edinburgh Castle, Victoria Street, and Princes Street—all easily accessible on foot from the hotel. The hotel was quite busy despite it being a weekday, so we did not have much interaction with the reception team as they were understandably occupied. However, the restaurant staff during breakfast were efficient, polite, and attentive. They quickly cleared used dishes and managed seating well as new guests arrived. We were allocated a room on the top floor, which was pleasantly quiet with very little foot traffic, allowing for a comfortable stay.Overall, we would happily recommend this Travelodge to anyone looking for a convenient base to explore Edinburgh. Its excellent location means many of the city's major attractions can be reached on foot, making it ideal for visitors who enjoy walking and sightseeing.
