Wonderful massage and facial by Leah!

    rating09 Jun 2026

Crutherland is often overlooked as I forget it is so close to home. Last minute spa day for family, which included afternoon tea, "spa" and gym access and some treatments. Afternoon tea was lovely, waited a little longer but the booked only had for 2 when it was meant for 4, so assume adjustments had to be made. The food was tasty and fresh, but really heavy on the sweet side with only 3 finger sandwiches per person. Service was pretty poor, felt very forgotten and was looked at like I had 2 heads when asked if we could take some of the sweets to go. Treatments were mixed - mine was 5* easy, Leah was lovely and listened to everything I explained and tailored it perfectly. My daughter however was disappointed with her massage although said that the lady doing it was lovely. Everywhere is very clean and tidy. The "spa" includes a pool, sauna and steam room so a little basic compared to some, but enjoyable. There were swimming lessons happening whilst we were there, that we weren't informed of, so that did have an impact on the relaxing vibes. Maybe slightly overpriced for the access, however it was overall enjoyable. Richard Macdonald Hotels, General Manager at Macdonald Crutherland House and Spa, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback following your recent spa day at Macdonald Crutherland House.I am delighted to hear that you and your family enjoyed your visit overall and that your massage and facial with Leah were such a positive experience. Leah will be thrilled to receive your kind comments, and I will ensure they are shared with her. It is wonderful to hear that she listened carefully to your needs and tailored your treatment accordingly.I am also pleased that you enjoyed the afternoon tea and found the food fresh and tasty. However, I apologise for the delay in service and the confusion regarding the booking numbers. Equally, I am sorry that you felt overlooked during your visit, as this is certainly not the level of service we strive to provide.Whilst it is encouraging to hear that the spa facilities were clean and enjoyable, I appreciate your comments regarding the swimming lessons taking place during your visit. We understand that many guests visit us to relax and unwind, and I recognise how this may have impacted the atmosphere you were expecting. Your feedback has been noted as we review how we communicate these activities to our guests in advance.I was also sorry to learn that your daughter's treatment did not fully meet her expectations, although I am pleased to hear that she found her therapist friendly and welcoming.Thank you once again for your balanced and constructive feedback. It is invaluable in helping us improve the experience we provide. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you and your family back again soon.Kind regards,Richard ArcherGeneral ManagerMacdonald Crutherland House

    Avoid the spa- awful experience!

    rating07 Jun 2026

We had booked for a ‘rest and reset’ spa day today which is advertised as a “perfect place to unwind and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life”This could not be further from our experience!Very loud Aqua aerobics on. No where to sit or put your things. Tiny steam room and sauna. Broken showers. Awful. When I went to politely complain and ask to cancel our day I was met with a very inhospitable and unhelpful manner from the lady in the spa. When asked to speak with manager we were fobbed off and told ‘’she was in charge of the desk’ and the aerobics finishes in half an hour”I decided to give up with the lady at the spa and go to ask for the general manager to get a refund. This is actually an embarrassment to Scottish hospitality! This is not a spa but a very jaded leisure facility that needs to heavily invest in basic facilities.Best avoided. Richard Macdonald Hotels, General Manager at Macdonald Crutherland House and Spa, responded to this review Dear Katrina,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent spa visit.I am sorry that the leisure facilities did not meet your expectations and that the aqua aerobics class impacted your enjoyment of the day. I also apologise for the concerns you raised regarding the availability of seating, the condition of the showers, and your overall perception of the facilities. Most concerning, however, are your comments regarding the response you received when attempting to raise your concerns. Regardless of the circumstances, every guest should feel listened to, valued, and treated with professionalism. I am sorry that this was not your experience and that you left feeling frustrated and disappointed.I would very much welcome the opportunity to discuss your visit further and better understand the issues you encountered. Please feel free to contact me directly at gm.crutherlandhouse@macdonald-hotels.co.uk, and I would be happy to speak with you personally.Thank you again for bringing these matters to my attention. Feedback such as yours is invaluable as we continue to review and improve the experience we provide for our guests.Kind regards,Richard ArcherGeneral ManagerMacdonald Crutherland House

    Great massages

    rating10 May 2026

As I sit in the restaurant awaiting our lunch as part of the Groupon deal I got me and my mum, I’d just like to say we had the most amazing massages and service from your spa staff. My mum had a lovely girl named Claire, partly black and blonde hair. My mum has recently undergone substantial surgery and Claire listened to every need and concern my mum had and tailored her treatment accordingly. My masseuse also named Claire I believe who had blonder hair was amazing! Me and my mum both voiced this is by far the best massages we have ever experienced! We will definitely be back for the treatments! However as far as the ‘facilities’ go? everything including the pool area/changing rooms is hanging on for dear life! Albeit we were here for a groupon spa deal, I’d be raging if I’d paid to use these facilities and to be met with broken old furniture and roofs and a sauna that smells like a wet German shepherd has lived and died in it. Mark Macdonald Hotels, General Manager at Macdonald Crutherland House and Spa, responded to this review Dear AmiSmithx, thank you for your review. I shall pass on your kind comments to Claire, who shall be delighted. We shall look into the rest of your review. Hope to see you back for a treatment soon, kind regards.
