Grand hotel with modern Spa, in great location.

I stayed 2 nights with my partner and our 16 yr old son, who had his own room next to ours, on the 4th floor. We had a wonderful experience overall, with only a couple of niggles. The hotel is stunning, and I was delighted by the 'wow!' I kept hearing from my son when we arrived. We loved the architecture, and the main lobby/lounge/bar which has lots of marble, high ceilings and an Italian feel to it. The front desk staff member who checked us in was lovely and friendly and informative. I was surprised that in such a huge hotel with 5 floors, there was only one very tiny lift. There should have been two tiny lifts, but the other one was out of service. Some other guests who had already been staying there for days before, told us it had been out of service the whole time they were there, and it continued to be out of service throughout our stay too. There was frequently a queue of people waiting to get the lift up, and as it was so small, and slow, this became a problem at busy times. I will be honest, we ended up using the 'Service Lift' one time, because we were frustrated, and we were not the only people who did this. Having said that, we were happy to walk down from the 4th floor when we didn't have luggage, because the stairways are wide and magnificent. Our rooms were comfortable and clean and we had a good view. The beds were firm and we all slept well, although I think the pillows were too soft for me. We didn't eat, or park our car at the hotel, because we thought it was all a bit pricey for us, but we did use the Spa facilities. Overall, I was really impressed with what we were able to enjoy that was included in the cost of our hotel room booking. The Spa is attractive, with great lighting features in the pool area, and we tried out the Sauna (our fave), the Steam Room, Jacuzzi, and the outside Hot Tub, which we had to ourselves for quite some time. On the whole, I think this is a great hotel, and would recommend because we had a great time, and it felt like good value.

I loved the hotel, parking was easy, the location was great. Greeted nicely when we arrived. Had an Amazon parcel delivered without issue. Great restaurants nearby, try Rhubarb! Comfy beds and pillows and I'm fussy. Spa was great BUT no private changing area for those who want it and kids come in from 4! It gets rammed. And noisy. Don't like that. Staff at breakfast seemed more unhelpful when I asked for more granola because the pot was empty I got grunted at and she never went to look for any. The morning staff looked stressed and a bit more out of sorts to me. Nice food though, lots of choices! Even poached eggs on the buffet! It's a shame that one of the lifts was out of action,it caused a bit of queuing. Also, the lift isn't great for wheelchair users. The lift up to reception didn't work either, but night security let us in through the spa entrance. The room was lovely, felt stylish even with aides. Breakfast was great, but staff were grumpy when asked for more granola when they ran out. Even poached eggs were available on the buffet. Staff seemed very stressed.Spa was great until 4 when the kids arrived. Nurgh. Too many, too noisy, lots of hotel guests turned away because it's so busy. Not a relaxing spa experience if you're there for that. But facilities are great!

    Enjoyable spa morning

    rating08 Apr 2026

Booked a spa morning with massage and lunch. The location was handy for easy access into Harrogate after the spa.Staff were all friendly and helpful and the massage therapist was excellent. We used the pool, sauna and outside hot tub which was a real treat in the sunshine. Most areas were clean altho the patio and windows were in need of attention and the carpet in the lounge needed hoovering. Our lunch was delicious. Thank you to the lovely young waitress who took the time to show me some of the stunning historical rooms that are part of the hotel.

Not bad, but room for improvement.

Spa was nice, very clean and well maintained, hotel itself was much the same; however, the room we stayed in was a little disappointing. The bed was very small considering it was supposed to be a double; my partner and I struggled to lay side by side with any degree of comfort, the mattress was extremely firm and the pillows weren't the best. There was also a stained chair in the room and the carpet didn't appear to have been vacuumed between guest as there were small chunks of dried mud scattered around, which weren't pleasant to step in with bare feet. Staff on reception didn't ask how the stay was when we checked out. Also cost £18 to park our car overnight in the hotel car park.
