No air conditioning on the hottest week in years in the UK>

    rating01 Jun 2026

Last week, my husband & I spent 7 nights at the Delta Hotel by Marriott in Bexleyheath, UK. I've been a pretty loyal Marriott customer for years, staying in their hotels all over the US and in Europe. This time, it was extremely disappointing - hear me out.The weather last week in the UK broke all heat wave records, like, for all of recorded temperatures. It was hot. No, not Florida hot, not humid like that, but for England? It was hot. We checked in on Sunday and honestly, it was warm in the room, but we were tired from the flight and didn't think much of it. The next day, though, we went to the front desk and said that we thought our air conditioning was broken (it was). The front desk apologized and said that since it was a Sunday, they didn't have maintenance on site and that they'd have them come in and fix it asap. And no, we couldn't change rooms as the hotel was completely sold out all seven nights we were there. That was the first "untruth". They knew they didn't have air conditioning and that it wasn't going to be fixed. They gave us a table fan to use to try to cool down the room. In the room now it was 24.5 C (that's 76 degrees F). Not unbearable, but warm. We turned on the fan and went about our trip for the day. When we came back, the room was still warm, but we were assured that someone would be coming to fix the air conditioning "asap" so we went to bed and dealt with it.Tuesday morning, we realize it's now 25.7 C (78 degrees F) in the room, and it's first thing in the morning - it's only going to get warmer. As we go down to the lobby to go out for the day, we realize the lobby is super warm as well.... Turns out that THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING ANYWHERE IN THE HOTEL. The front desk apologizes again and says "someone is working on it." That was the second "untruth" - no one was working on it.(Throughout our stay, our room hovered around 26-27 degrees C or just around 80 degrees F.)As the week goes on, it just gets warmer and warmer in the hotel. Even when the temperature goes down outside for one day, the hotel doesn't cool down at all. We are at a pub across the street chatting with locals and we find out that this hotel hasn't had air conditioning for weeks, and they don't know when they are going to replace the system at all.We walk back over to the hotel after hearing this and point blank ask the manager. They admit that yes, there is no air conditioning anywhere at all in the hotel at this time, but they're "working on getting the system replaced" but "they don't know when it will be complete."Based on the time of year, if it's going to be warm out, I would suggest you stay away from this hotel, as it's extremely hot in the bedrooms and even with the windows open, very little air movement is available. Also, the lobby floor is warped and peeling, especially near the elevators, so if you have any mobility issues at all, please watch where you are walking so you don't trip. Rabin BHUJEL, Guest Services / Front Office at Delta Hotels Bexleyheath, responded to this review Dear guest,Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your recent stay. I’m truly sorry to hear how uncomfortable and frustrating your experience was, especially during what became the hottest week the UK has seen in recorded history. As a long‑time Marriott guest, you deserved a much better stay than what you experienced.Trying to rest in a room consistently reaching 26–27°C is undeniably difficult, particularly after long travel days and with limited airflow. No guest should have to rely on a small fan as their primary cooling option, and I understand how exhausting that must have been.Regarding the air‑conditioning, the hotel does operate a centralized cooling system, and it is set to cooling mode in summer. However, during periods of extreme heat, air circulation throughout the building becomes more challenging. To help improve airflow, we provide fans in the rooms, but I’m sorry to hear that this was not enough to make your stay comfortable. We will be looking into everything we can do to improve the performance of the AC system moving forward.Thank you as well for bringing the condition of the lobby flooring to our attention. We appreciate you highlighting this, and we will look into it to ensure guest safety and accessibility are maintained.Thank you again for your review. We truly appreciate your feedback, and we hope to have you back for a much better experience.Warm regards,Rabin R B

    Stay elsewhere

    rating23 May 2026

I would recommend staying elsewhere! We were put in the ‘honeymoon suite’ and if this is the best the hotel has to offer then I wouldn’t like to see the other rooms.- The shower was dirty and mouldy - There wasn’t a single piece of furniture that wasn’t damaged or dripping with dry glue where it had been ‘fixed’ at some point. - The Smart television didn’t work - The WiFi didn’t work - The dog bed provided was stained - There were no little touches like bath sheets. The towels provided were tiny. In addition to all this a note was left for another guest in our room. The hotel is in much need of a complete refurb. Rabin BHUJEL, Guest Services / Front Office at Delta Hotels Bexleyheath, responded to this review Dear guest,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. Your experience is not reflective of what we want for our guests, and your feedback will be used as part of our ongoing review of the property. Consistently Excellent Service

    rating06 Mar 2026

I’ve been staying at the hotel for an extended period and it’s been a very positive experience overall. The rooms are comfortable, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff across the hotel have always been friendly and helpful. One highlight for me has been the bar area. It’s a relaxed place to unwind in the evenings and the service has consistently been excellent. Dinesh in particular deserves recognition. He’s always welcoming, attentive, and genuinely makes guests feel looked after. Service like that really adds to the experience of staying here. Rabin BHUJEL, Guest Services / Front Office at Delta Hotels Bexleyheath, responded to this review Dear leon,Your feedback is a joy to receive, and it beautifully reflects the warmth and care we strive to offer every guest. Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful reflections on your extended stay.Your kind words about the comfort of the rooms and the welcoming atmosphere mean a great deal, and it’s wonderful to know that the team’s friendliness has made your time with us feel consistently positive. The bar is indeed a special corner of the hotel, and hearing that it has become your place to unwind makes us genuinely proud.Dinesh will be especially delighted to know he’s made such an impression. His attentive, heartfelt approach to hospitality is exactly the spirit we hope every guest experiences, and your recognition of his efforts is truly appreciated. We sincerely hope we’ll have the pleasure of hosting you again in the future, and that your next stay will be just as memorable.Kind regard,Rabin R B

    Disappointing

    rating04 Mar 2026

We stayed here in February 2026 visiting family that live nearby. We have stayed here many times with no problems in the past.We requested a ground floor room with a fridge as we both need to refrigerate medication.Unfortunately for whatever reason we couldn’t be accommodated on the ground floor room with a fridge something that was never an issue before! How a fridge couldn’t have been moved from another room is beyond me it’s not rocket science!!So we took a third floor room with a fridge. The room was a lot smaller than what we have had before but the real problem was the draft coming from the window especially as a couple of the days where extremely windy we had to keep the curtains shut!!We reported this several times & nothing seemed to have been done. The duty manager said the maintenance man went up 3 times but couldn’t find a problem I don’t know how because the room was freezing! If Stefan was there this would have been dealt with on the first day!The hotel is very tired & could do with some TLC the entrance has potholes the whole way along with smashed glass on the front porch!!The only good thing I can say is it has a decent bath. Rabin BHUJEL, Guest Services / Front Office at Delta Hotels Bexleyheath, responded to this review Dear guest,Thank you for sharing your thoughts following your recent stay. We’re pleased to hear that the bath and some aspects of the room were to your liking, and we truly appreciate the many times you’ve chosen to stay with us over the years.I understand that this visit didn’t reflect the smooth experience you’ve had previously. Your request for a ground‑floor room with a fridge has always been important, and while we weren’t able to accommodate that specific combination this time, I appreciate how inconvenient that was for you. Your comments about the draft in the room and the repeated reports you made have also been noted, and it’s clear the situation should have been handled with more clarity and follow‑through. As regular guest your observations about the general condition of the hotel and the entrance area are helpful. These are areas we are actively reviewing, and your feedback will support that process. We value your loyalty and the time you’ve taken to outline your experience. It’s important to us that your next stay feels much more in line with what you’ve come to expect.Kind regards,Rabin R B
