    We have just returned from a wonderful short break in Berlin, stopping off at the Holiday Inn Express for one night before our onward travel. This hotel was amazing - 10 mins shuttle bus away, super clean, friendly staff, and our room was lovely and clean. Every room was air conditioned and made things 1000 times more enjoyable since it was the hottest day in May ! The breakfast was outstanding, with soooo much choice. My husband and I went downstairs after bringing our luggage in and wanted a coffee - we were told this was complimentary which was such a lovely surprise and very kind. The shuttle bus to the airport arrives every half hour and theres even a bell inside the hotel alerting you of their arrival! Also near the front doors, theres weighing scales for your luggage (just costs £1) which was incredibly useful. We left our car there at the hotel grounds - everything seemed very safe and secure , truly an amazing stay and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Thankyou so much!!!

    GAVE US A ROOM WITH SOMEONE IN IT!!

    Well, “shocking” is the best word I can use for our experience. If you stay here, make sure you lock your room door properly.We booked a double room before our return flight from Cyprus. Our flight landed late at around 2:30am, and after getting a taxi to the hotel we were exhausted. We were given a key card at reception and headed upstairs to our room.When we opened the door, there was already a key card in the power slot. We assumed a cleaner had accidentally left a spare card behind, so we tossed it aside. To our horror, two people suddenly jumped out of the bed, clearly terrified. We immediately apologised, grabbed our card, and rushed back down to reception.I explained what had happened, but the receptionist didn’t seem remotely concerned and even appeared to find it amusing. I also explained how upsetting and frightening this must have been for the guests whose room we had entered in the middle of the night.We were eventually given another room, but by then we were so stressed and shaken that we couldn’t sleep. We ended up going for breakfast instead.The following morning I complained again at reception and was told the manager would contact me with an explanation. Nobody called. Once I got home, I rang the hotel myself and spoke to the manager, who again promised someone would contact me to explain what had happened. Once again, no one ever got back to me.I find the whole situation disgraceful — not only the mistake itself, but the complete lack of professionalism, concern, and follow-up afterwards. I also feel awful for the guests whose room we accidentally entered.We booked this hotel because we trusted the brand and expected better standards and trained staff. It never crossed our minds that something like this could happen. After this experience, we will never use this hotel chain again, and I certainly would not recommend it to others.     This hotel is located close to Stansted airport, a McDonalds and a BP gas station. There is regular shuttle service to Stansted airport. The rooms are clean and well furnished.The staff aren't very friendly but they kept the place clean and were professional. The free breakfast starts at 4am and runs until 9a and has good options for both hot food and the staples like cereal, yoghurt, etc. It is about what you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express. We would stay here again.

    Horrendous hotel rooms. Eyelashes and only what I can assume were body/ pubic hairs in the beds, it took 5 rooms to find one that didn’t look like a dog had slept in it.Dirty mattress protectors (had to check after the hairy beds. Checked in 2 of the 5 rooms) dried on food on the head board in the first room we were allocated (Room 278 Stansted). When we got into the last room it was 1.30 am, had two hours broken sleep due to the banging, was given a small double bed for two people (sofa bed was like sleeping on rocks, so wasn’t an option. Room 218 at Stansted) when I got up to use the loo during the night there was also poo smeared on the floor tiles and an inconspicuous mark/uncleaned area 🫟. Loads of stains on carpet. Had no other choice in the end. It’s not an experience I would like to repeat. The two stars are for breakfast and the man in front desk. There was a nice selection of different cereals, breads and the Cooked breakfast was ok, probably one of the better ones. Eating area looked clean.Member of staff on night shift also took photos and was very apologetic. Hoping he has also escalated this. A man with dreads/braids. (He did say he wouldn’t charge us for parking there, but we had long-stay parking, and 1 night hotel parking included with our stay, so hoping we have no surprises) he advised to get a refund.

    Nightmare hotel, Stansted Odyssey.

    I booked this hotel since I had an early morning flight at Stansted airport.It was very cold and rainy, and I arrived at about 8:30 p.m. just to relax and get some sleep in a warm room.Even though the hotel wasn't full and I had bulky luggage and difficulty walking, I was assigned room 480, the furthest from the reception and restaurant. There was no way I could get any assistance, as the staff was very limited.However, upon arriving at the room next to an emergency fire exit with a freezing wind blowing, I unfortunately immediately noticed that the temperature inside was 14°C (57°F), so I immediately tried setting the heater to maximum.After more than an hour, still bundled up, and seeing that the temperature had only risen one degree, I called reception but received no response.After several attempts, a woman answered and said she would take care of it. I then waited another half hour, but since no one had intervened, I tried calling reception again. A woman answered and told me to go back to the distant reception, again without any assistance, as I had been assigned another room.The other room, also not nearby, was old and extremely dirty, less cold but with a temperature of 18°C. I called reception to complain about the poor conditions and the temperature, but was told to wait, reassuring me that the temperature would rise. After an hour at maximum power, the temperature did not increase. I was then assigned another room, less dirty but still in bad conditions and with a similar temperature. After another call because the temperature wasn't rising despite repeated reassurances, an employee appeared and brought me a broken heater in dangerous condition, unusable with melted plastic (see photo). I told him I didn't want to use it and to bring me a safe, unbroken one, which he did, but by then it was about 1:30 a.m. and my stay was ruined. With the new heater, the temperature rose, and I managed to fall asleep around 2:30 a.m. The receptionist, however, told me she had informed management and that I would at least receive a message of apology, if not a refund, considering the price was not low and certainly not commensurate with the horrific treatment and hotel's disgraceful conditions.No one ever contacted me, but in the following days I had to notify Booking.com, also because, despite several emails requesting it, the hotel only sent me an invoice after Booking.com intervened.In short, the hotel is old, dirty, worn, understaffed, careless about of its customers and in need of a complete renovation (see photos but I have also videos).I'll leave aside the paid shuttle service without a proper receipt and the terrible breakfast.I at least hope that the main Holiday Inn chain management will intervene.
