Great Room & Service, but Disturbed by Housekeeping

    rating05 May 2026

🛏️ ROOM QUALITYCleanliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The room was genuinely very clean - fresh, tidy, and almost sterile in a comforting way. Everything felt well maintained and looked after. However, a major issue (!), housekeeping let themselves into my room while I was inside without knocking or warning. This was very unsettling and, honestly, not acceptable AT ALL! When I asked for towels and coffee and indicated I didn’t need anything else, there seemed to be confusion about leaving. For me, privacy is a fundamental part of a hotel stay, and this experience significantly impacted my overall impression.--------------------Aesthetics: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Pretty inoffensive overall. The colour palette of greys, whites, and dark wood works well and contributes to the clean, modern feel of the room.--------------------Comfort and Noise: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The bed is a standout for sure - very comfortable, with none of the overly tight, crunchy sheets you sometimes get.Room size is also excellent. The double room felt spacious enough to comfortably work out in, which more than made up for the small gym downstairs. The downside is noise from the corridor. Doors opening and closing sound very close, and soundproofing is minimal. You can also hear housekeeping from around 8am, which may disrupt sleep if you’re hoping for a lie-in.--------------------Room Tech Features: ⭐️⭐️⭐️Standard TV setup (didn’t use it), but the air conditioning is excellent - fast, effective, and easy to use.The only drawback is that it can be a bit too noisy to run overnight, although it cools the room quickly enough that you don’t necessarily need it on constantly.--------------------Bathroom: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The shower is a great size - spacious and very comfortable to use. Water pressure and temperature are both spot on.The rest of the bathroom is perfectly functional, although once again, there is no toilet brush, which feels like a strange and unnecessary omission. I have no idea why this is such a common theme in hotel rooms.-------------------- 🤝 SERVICEStaff Friendliness & Efficiency: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️On arrival, I was greeted warmly by a receptionist who was genuinely friendly and engaging - something that can be rare in London. The interaction felt natural and welcoming rather than scripted, which made a really positive first impression.-------------------- 🏋️ OUTSIDE ROOM AMENITIESGym: ⭐️⭐️⭐️I didn’t end up using the gym after being told it was “very, very small.” That said, the room itself was so spacious that this wasn’t an issue for me personally.--------------------Breakfast:Didn’t try breakfast during this stay—one for next time.-------------------- 📍 LOCATIONTransport Links: ⭐️⭐️⭐️Whitechapel and Aldgate stations are around a 10–15 minute walk away, which isn’t ideal if you’re carrying heavy bags or suitcases. There are bus options that are a bit more convenient, but overall, it’s not the most accessible location compared to others in central London.--------------------Safety: ⭐️⭐️The immediate area feels a bit mixed. A short walk to Tesco late in the evening felt uncomfortable, with groups of men lingering on every corner. While Whitechapel itself isn’t necessarily unsafe, this particular pocket (closer to Shadwell) feels noticeably rougher, especially at night, but also noticeable during the day - even a sunny day when everything looks nicer!--------------------Vibe: ⭐️⭐️⭐️The hotel itself is fine internally, but the surrounding area lacks atmosphere and doesn’t feel particularly inviting.-------------------- 💸 VALUE FOR MONEYFinal Conclusion: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3⭐️)This hotel has some strong positives! Excellent cleanliness, a very comfortable bed, spacious rooms, and genuinely friendly staff. However, the experience is let down by a few key issues:- Lack of privacy (housekeeping entering the room unannounced)- Poor corridor soundproofing- A less desirable surrounding areaOverall, it’s a decent stay with some standout features, but these drawbacks make it harder to fully relax and enjoy. Best suited for a short, practical stay rather than a comfortable or luxurious experience.-------------------- ✨ AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT (SUMMARY)- Reinforce housekeeping protocols around guest privacy- Improve soundproofing from corridors- Reduce early morning hallway noise- Add basic bathroom essentials (e.g. toilet brush)- Improve overall sense of security and atmosphere in surrounding experience IHG Service, Owner at Holiday Inn London - Whitechapel By IHG, responded to this review Hi Excursion60038947247,Thank you for staying at the Holiday Inn London - Whitechapel. Great hotel for business in London - gym slightly lacking though

    rating20 Mar 2026

I’ve stayed at Holiday Inn Whitechapel several times now for business, including when I’m in London for conferences at the ExCeL Convention Centre, and I’ve generally always had a positive experience. The rooms appear to have been newly renovated, which gives the hotel a fresh and comfortable feel. The rooms were all warm without having to play with the thermostat which is lovely - can't abide a cold hotel room! The staff were excellent throughout my stay — friendly, helpful, and professional — and the facilities were clean and well maintained. The only real downside for me was the gym area, which is quite small and located in the basement of the building. It only has one weights bench, although there is a good selection of dumbbells up to 20kg and a few cardio machines. The problem is if someone is using the weights you have to wait for them and I did end up waiting a while around breakfast - 9am seems to be a good time to get a morning workout in if possible or wait until later in the eveningOverall, it’s a solid business hotel in a convenient location, and I’d happily stay again.

    Excellent for its price

    rating14 Jan 2026

I stayed here for three nights and to be honest, I have nothing to complain. This is definitely one of the positive experiences I have had on my work travels. The hotel is clean and neat, rooms are just recently refurbished and you do notice that clearly. My room was exceptionally spacious (or was it just the luxury of a corner room with windows to two directions), comfortable and most importantly, very quiet (during business travel, good nights sleep is valued high!). The room had great AC and heating options, and these actually worked well.Locationwise, it is not the most central location, but very well connected to the city center. With this price, you just can't be directly in the city. The only slight disappointment was breakfast, but it might also be that I am used to more Nordic and continental European breakfasts. I felt that the selection was a bit dull and lacked variety (e.g. only toast available over a larger variety of fresh breads). But if you want an English breakfast, this is what you get here :) And most importantly, I got some food and coffee in my belly, which is more than enough.Overall, would definitely stay here again!
