    Great hotel with friendly staff

    rating13 May 2026

Great hotel just a short walk from Hyde Park. Stayed here for 1 night following an awards ceremony at another local hotel. I didn’t want to stay at the awards venue as the rooms were £400+. Lancaster Hall was about half that price and was perfect. I booked a premier plus room which was clean, fairly modern (although bathroom could do with updating) and had a nice SMEG coffee maker as well as a fridge with some bottled water in. The room also had an iron & ironing board and a safe. Lots of plugs/charging points although a plug socket next to the bed would be a good addition.Bed was comfy and minimal noise from other hotel guests. Reception staff were also very friendly and helpful.Would definitely stay here again!

Close proximity to Paddington, transport and Hyde Park a bonus.

As septuagenarians, we have visited this former German YMCA on several occasions for 25 years. The hotel has been ‘refreshed or tarted up’ in the foyers etc and the prices reflect this now, as what used to be a cheap and cheerful hotel is now expensive. It cost AU$1847.18 or GBP608.22 for a superior double for three nights. We booked direct and requested the room we had last October, but was told this wasn’t possible. We eventually occupied a room further along the corridor. Tiago from Brazil was a happy, helpful and professional front office person, whilst some others were diffident and unhelpful. One now has to pay for a locker to store suitcases etc. One also pays because of its proximity to many tourist places, transport etc.The only obvious change in the bedroom was a throw and a couple of cushions. One English Breakfast tea. Four milks which is enough for one cup of tea and coffee each. Not all people like Tisanes or flowery ‘tea’. The bathroom still has a shower curtain, which must be the only one left in Britain, as we had travelled in all sorts of accommodation for four weeks and didn’t come across one. There were two tiny soaps wrapped in paper and a dispenser of liquid on the wall of the bath. Yes, one still had to clamber over the bath to have a shower. Everywhere we travelled in the UK, they had three dispensers for bath, shampoo and body lotion or had small containers of same. I folded my towel over the racks and when we returned it was folded and damp. My husband’s towel, which I threw over the shower curtain holder, was dry. The hand towels were also damp as they had been folded. The toilet was extremely hard to flush as the round buttons failed to deploy. The breakfast was the same as in the past with the usual array of items, but we noticed last year that hot breakfasts had been added since our last visit. As we were catching the Eurostar we asked if we could either get breakfast early or a refund. ‘We don’t give refunds as that was included in the price’. Yes. GBP22 each when they advertised in the room or on the street for GBP14. We entered the breakfast room at 6.30am to find Weetabix which we don’t eat, and no milk for it or tea and coffee. There were stale croissants and rolls, butter, Marmite and a jam or two. No ham as promised for the rolls.

Friendly staff. Small but well equipped rooms. Very good breakfast. One may only regret the early chek-out (10:30) and the 5 pounds charged for a locker if you need to leave your luggage.

Poor overall experience. Difficult front office staff. Need to get a service delivery improvement.
