    We booked last minute as we were having dinner with our son and decided to spend the night in London. I can honestly say this was one of the worst stays we have ever had.Pre arrival I had contacted the hotel twice to reserve a table at their roof top bar for 9.30pm but had received no confirmation.On arrival there was building work being carried out. This didn’t initially bother us as we had got what I felt was a reasonable price for the room and when we spotted the works just thought that explains it!Our son met us at the hotel and we wanted to drop our bags and go as we had a dinner reservation. After about ten minutes at check in whilst staff tried to print key cards the lady on duty offered to let us in to our room with her master card and we could collect our keys later. We agreed and she opened the door to our room and left. We dropped our bags and then realised the room had no blinds or curtains installed over the floor to ceiling windows which overlooked other rooms. We checked that there wasn’t some hidden mechanism for blinds but confirmed that there simply weren’t any. The bathroom had clearly had some work done recently and the floor was dirty and had grouting which hadn’t been wiped off while wet leaving it over the floor. We were by now running late so left our bags and explained to reception who assured us that we would be moved to a new room while we were out. They had to call me during dinner to confirm we had a table for drinks as requested.When we arrived at the Aviary after dinner our table for 3 was 2 stools and a very small table but as it was outside as requested we didn’t comment. Unfortunately no one had taken the time to tell us that the outdoor section of the bar closed at 10pm. We were told we could move inside but as it was a warm evening and the air conditioning wasn’t working in the bar this wasn’t a comfortable experience.We went to our new room which was smaller than our first room but clean and modern and did have curtains! This would have been fine had we not been woken by contractors entering our room around 7am. Whilst reception called us to apologise they first offered to take the room upgrade off our bill. My husband asked whether curtains were considered an upgrade and we were then offered a complimentary breakfast. Unfortunately this was in the Aviary which still had no air conditioning working. In an effort to cool a very warm glass room the hotel had a couple of portable fans/cooling units that only added to the noise and chaos.We left without breakfast and handed our keys to one of the young porters after waiting 20 mi utes to try and check out. I understand that Marriott are taking over the hotel but we won’t be back.

    World class service! We’ve stayed at many hotels across the UK & at 5* level, but the level of service form guest relations at the Montcalm was simply outstanding.They ensured every little detail was catered for ahead of our arrival & not a single request that we had during our stay was a problem. The speed at which they resolved the minor issues we had & the additional requests were above & beyond our expectations.Both Divine & Myroslava were amazing to deal with & truly looked after every request I had ahead of such a special occasion. Your wider team’s ability to remember exactly who we were as well was way beyond our expectations & you now have customers for life.We look forward to bringing our children to stay & will now use this hotel as our main stay when visiting London.
