Pricey for a smallish room, but in a fabulous location for the museums

    rating10 Jun 2026

I stayed at The Rembrandt ahead of a morning's teaching at nearby Imperial College. The hotel is in a fantastic location, just across the street from Imperial and some of the world's best museums. South Kensington underground station is a 3-4 minute walk and the surrounding area has dozens of bars and restaurants. The hotel itself is pleasant. The rooms are on the small side, with a tiny bathroom that manages (implausibly) to squeeze in a bath tub, but it has all the usual amenities - desk, fridge, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, kettle, etc. Breakfast was a nice surprise, with a comprehensive buffet as well as smoked meats and cheeses. I paid £275 for one night with breakfast, which is steep by international standards (in recent days I have been staying in luxury hotels in Singapore and Perth for a fraction of the price), but everything in South Kensington seems to be eye-waveringly expensive.A good choice if you are planning a museum-binge, followed by an evening out.

    Terrible check in

    rating02 Jun 2026

I am writing to make a formal complaint regarding my recent stay at The Rembrandt Hotel. My family and I stayed in Room 274 from 29 May to 1 June. This was our fourth stay at the hotel, which is why the experience was particularly disappointing.During check-in, we were assisted by a trainee receptionist whose name I believe was Xina (or a similar spelling). Unfortunately, I found her attitude unprofessional, dismissive, and rude.I asked which room we would be staying in, and although she appeared to have access to this information, she repeatedly refused to tell me. She stated that I would find out when I returned at 3:00 p.m. When I asked whether she could see the room allocation, she replied that she could, but that anything could happen before 3:00 p.m. I asked several reasonable questions, but her responses were abrupt and unhelpful throughout our interaction.I explained that this was our fourth stay at the hotel and that, because of the way I was being treated, I was seriously considering not returning. Her response gave me the impression that my concerns were of little importance. Rather than attempting to address the situation or show understanding, she simply said SORRY ABOUT THAT and moved on.As a loyal returning guest, I found this experience extremely disappointing. The level of customer service I received fell well below the standard I would expect from your hotel. Staff members, including trainees, represent the hotel and play a significant role in shaping guests’ impressions. Unfortunately, this interaction has left me with a very negative view of the service we received.I wanted to bring this matter to your attention because I believe it is important for management to be aware of how guests are being treated. Sadly, after four stays at your hotel, this experience has made me question whether we will return in the future.Thank you for taking the time to consider my comments. I would appreciate it if this matter could be reviewed and addressed appropriately.

Terrible Customer Service and Dated Room more like a 2 star hotel room

    rating02 Jun 2026

I have stayed at The Rembrandt Hotel several times in the past and recommended it. However I had a terrible experience. I paid GBP265 in advance for an Executive King Room. I arrived from an overnight flight and requested an early check in which cost an extra GBP50. The reception staff informed me that the early check in was subject to availability. I asked if she could check. She said she only had one room. The room was awful, dark and dingy and right at the back of the hotel. I asked if she could let me know if another room became available. She told me to come back between 1.30 and 2 pm.When I arrived back at the hotel at 2pm she told me that my room was not ready and to wait in the lobby. I sat there for 45 mins while I saw numerous guests arrive and be handed their keys immediately.I asked if she could check with the cleaning service if my room was ready and she told me that she had no control over the cleaning staff. After 45 mins of sitting I asked to speak to the Manager. He informed me that the hotel was busy and he would try to get me a room. I was eventually handed the keys to a room on the 5th Floor. The room was horrible, old and worn furniture, a dated bathroom with shower curtain. The tv in the room did not work and I had to ask maintenance to come and fix it. All in all it was a horrible experience. I will never return to this hotel. There is no courtesy given to returning guests (the receptionist said I was not in the system). I have stayed there over 5 times in the past couple of years. Knowing that I was tired, having arrived from an overnight flight and was happy to pay an extra GBP50 for an early check in I was kept waiting until the last minute to check in and given one of the worst rooms in the hotel. This is a terrible way to treat a guest and guaranteed to ensure that I never return to this hotel.
