    Great location but terrible SPA

    rating15 Jun 2026

Stayed at the Midland hotel for a couple of nights in June 2026 to attend a conference at Manchester Central which is literally a minute away. The hotel itself is five minutes walk away from Manchester Oxford Road train station. There are plenty of restaurants and express stores. The location is ideal. There is also a tram stop nearby. Manchester library is also right at the front so in terms of location to be in central Manchester you cannot get any better than this. The hotel itself is very nice and clean. It gives a really good impression when you walk in as the lobby is very nice with a nice sitting area. The staff at the reception was very attentive and the check-in process was very quick. One thing I would point out is that the lifts and the floors don’t smell very nice and there is a distinct smell that can easily be removed if air fresheners were installed.I stayed on fifth floor and the view outside from the window was not great as you can see in one of the pictures. However, the room was very clean including the toilet. I had a double room booked and it had everything that a room should have in it in a hotel of this standard. The room had plenty of space for two people. Bed was extremely comfortable and the linen including the pillows were really of very good quality. You are provided with iron and ironing board in the room. There was also a coffee machine with coffee pods and kettle with teabags, milk, and sugar provided. The room had air-conditioning, TV had plenty of channels, desk available to do work on as well and plenty of sockets available in the room with USB plugs as well. There was also a safe available in the cupboard. The toilet was very clean with Elmis products. However, the shower did not have a good pressure which was a bit disappointing.I also had breakfast on both days and the breakfast is also very good. You get a choice of croissants and other pastries. There are two coffee machines. There is also hot breakfast plus there is an omelette station where you can ask for any omelette to be made and it was one of the best omelettes I’ve ever had. The staff in the restaurant is very attentive and helpful with smiles on their faces. You also get to use the spa for one hour for the duration of your stay but I would say that it’s the worst spa I have ever been to in my life and I have been to many countries.Firstly, there is no access to the pool area from the changing room which I found very odd. I have never been to a spa where you have to walk from your changing area to the pool area. Which also means you cannot have a shower in the changing area before going to the pool area and there is only one shower in the pool area which also wasn’t working properly. The Jacuzzi wasn’t working as well. I sat in the steam room for five minutes and there was no steam. Eventually the steam outlet started bubbling and stopped within 15 seconds. The lockers in the changing room didn’t work. I tried two of them and then I went outside to call the person from the reception. She came and she also tried three different lockers and they didn’t work as well. The towel also smelled bad and later on I realised that it had a very strong smell of essential oils in it. I was really surprised at that as that is so basic and they could’ve at least used fabric conditioner to make the towel smell nice. When I came out from the steam room and went to the changing room, both my eyes were really very itchy and red and I that was probably a reaction from the towel.I would recommend The Midland Manchester Hotel if you are coming here as a couple or on a business or work trip or if you need to attend an event or a conference at Manchester Central but I would never ever recommend booking this hotel especially for the spa and because of that reason, I would not give The Midland Manchester 5 stars!

    10 Year Anniversary

    rating13 Jun 2026

Booked The Midland as part of my 10 year wedding anniversary as we travelled from Glasgow for shopping. Love Manchester for clothes. Had a few bad hotels in Manchester recently with views of alleys or bins so i did ask The Midland for a decent view if possible. We originally booked a Superior Room but on arrival we were informaed we had an upgrade to a junior suite. Room 622 on the 11th June. Walked in the room and it was lovely. Spacious and had a lovely welcome note and chocolates with the bed decorated. Very nice touch and my wife loved it. Hotel was very clean and had a lovely smell inside. A nice old fashioned yet modern look to it. Went for a swim and sauna and was quiet. You do need to phone and book a slot downstairs in advance but i gave one hour warning i wanted to use facilities.Overall, very pleased and as we travel down a few times a year The Midland will definetly be a hotel we will return too and right next to Albert Square so great area.

    Disappointed in service

    rating13 Jun 2026

Very Disappointing Birthday Stay – Would Not ReturnI stayed at the Midland Hotel in December last year for my birthday, and unfortunately the experience fell far below expectations from start to finish. Before arrival, I had requested an early check-in several times and even called multiple times on the morning and day of arrival. I was more than happy to pay for this service if available, but nobody seemed able to give a clear answer or show any interest in helping. This caused unnecessary stress as we had dinner plans and were hoping to have time to get ready beforehand. My friend had also contacted the hotel in advance to mention that it was my birthday. We weren't expecting anything extravagant, but we had hoped this might be taken into consideration when allocating our room. Unfortunately, it appeared that nothing had been noted. Instead, we were given a room overlooking a rooftop, which was very disappointing. The room itself was not up to standard. The windows were dirty, there were stains on the carpet beside the left-hand bed, and the room was freezing cold. The air conditioning/heating unit did not work, and the wall control panel was barely attached to the wall. It could easily be pulled away, exposing wires behind it, which we felt was a potential safety concern. We reported the heating issue to reception and were told someone would come and take a look. Nobody ever arrived. Later that evening, as the room remained extremely cold, we asked whether it would be possible to move rooms. Again, nothing was done, and we ended up spending a very uncomfortable and cold night. The disappointments continued the following morning. We were looking forward to using the spa facilities, only to be told that we were unable to do so. This was particularly frustrating as it was one of the reasons we had chosen the hotel. We also asked housekeeping for additional sugar sachets for the coffee in the room, as only two had been provided, which was only enough for one person. We were told some would be brought up, but after waiting over an hour, nothing arrived. In the end, we went down to breakfast just to get a coffee ourselves. To add insult to injury, we paid what felt like an extortionate fee for a late check-out. Given the number of issues we experienced throughout our stay, and the fact that it was supposed to be a birthday celebration, we felt some goodwill gesture or compensation would have been appropriate.Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Poor communication, unresolved maintenance issues, lack of customer care, and missed opportunities to make a special occasion enjoyable left us feeling thoroughly let down. Sadly, I would not stay here again and would not recommend it based on our experience

    Unfortunate

    rating12 Jun 2026

I and my daughter had one of the worst experiences ever from the Midlands associated Spa located in premises. It was part of HighTea package. I had treated my daughter who had previously had experience awful years and needed a pick up. The high Tea delicious . Then we were to have a treatment, In the Spa. Individually packages. My daughter is a fully qualified beautician her. Not in that profession now. At the end of the treatment we had to, hydrate and relax in the relaxation suite. We asked for more water, which never came. Then we told during our relaxation that we had to leave as it was closing . Which spoilt the whole very expensive, waste of time experience. The staff were totally unhelpful. I was not impressed with the quality at all.I would never, advise anyone else to go to spa. For such a prestigious place totally disappointed.

    Excellent hotel.

Overnight stay with evening meal and breakfast - excellent from the 'off'!Staff were great - without exception. Had an executive room on the third floor - quiet, very clean and nicely decorated. Plenty of space for the both of us.Had our meal in the Champagne Bar area. Meals were very good - well above average. Drinks were not expensive despite the setting. Will certainly go back for more. Can recommend both for a casual visit and to stay.
