Thank you for an amazing few days!

I really enjoyed staying here! The location was perfect, within a walking distance from everywhere I wanted to get to in the centre and close to the airport. The atmosphere was cozy and fun. The staff were nice and people were friendly. The rooms had a surprising amount of space even though I only slept with three other people. There were lockers below the beds that could be locked. (But take your own lock with you!) I stayed in a 4 people female only dorm and I’ve never felt so cozy and homely in a hostel before. I also felt really safe the entire time! The rooms were really clean, as well as the toilets. I liked the breakfast room as well as the breakfast, the view was nice and the food was good. Sometimes it would get pretty loud but I didn’t mind. In the rooms it was always very peaceful. The kitchen had everything you’d need and it was really well kept compared to many hostels I’ve been to. The only critique I’d give is that the water pressure wasn’t that great in my room but overall I had a really good experience and I would recommend! YHA Manchester, General Manager at YHA Manchester, responded to this review Thank you so much for your review, we are so pleased to hear you had such a good stay with us. Its always great to hear that you felt at home safe staying with us. Thankyou also for the feedback re the water as we have just had a new boiler system so we will certainly look into that. Hope to see you again sometime soon. :)

EVEN THE HOMELESS WOULDNT SLEEP HERE

    rating18 Mar 2026

We were attending the Renee Rapp concert and was looking for a place to stay and came across the YHA it appeared to be perfect (how wrong we were) we booked a private room that consisted of 2 sets of bunk beds (4 beds) When we arrived all seemed fine, we arrived maybe 10 minutes early and got told to sit down as they were ‘cleaning’ the rooms which was fine check in stated that it was check in at 3 but we waited till around 3:10 to be checked in.Check in was efficient and staff member gave us all the information we needed When we got up to our floor the communal bathroom looked spotless and we thought our room would reciprocate. How wrong we were. When we walked in the room, the smell was disgusting almost like stale pee. The window was jammed open and couldn’t be shut which usually i am not a fan of but the mix of the stank and the heat within the room maybe was the reason it couldn’t be shut. Everything looked tattered with stains scattered all over the walls of the room and the bedroom, the bathroom wasn’t big enough to swing a cat. We actually arrived and didn’t even use the toilet we rushed straight for the communal one i dare to think the cleanliness of the Bathroom. When we checked the beds we found lots of hairs and pubes and stains (see photos) we didn’t even fully foldout the duvets but god knows what we would have found. When we went down to reception to request a refund we were treated as if we were liars about what we had found. We showed the photos to one person who didn’t say anything and just hummed and hawed until her shift manager showed up and we showed her the photos the supposed ‘cleaner’. during the whole interaction both of the women treated us like liars and didn’t bother to even apologise. Until the shift manager (cleaner) piped up and said oh you’re leaving? and offered to change the beds. After what we had seen there was no way sleeping there was an option and if it had just been cleaned why even offer. However not once did they even state that it had just been cleaned during the whole interaction which was alarming They stated they couldn’t process a refund even though it was a cleanliness fault on their end. Luckily we had £100 left and booked a new hotel however when we arrived at the other hotel they requested a £20 deposit which we didn’t have as they didn’t process our refund, with nowhere to go we figured unless we wanted to be out on the streets our only option was to return to the shack. We phoned ahead of time and they told us our room had just been booked however we have still technically booked the room and therefore they shouldn’t have let it out to anybody else. We explained we have no where else to go which she abruptly said okay and then bye and hung up. She then proceeded to phone us three times in attempts to offer us a room but if it had gone in the first place which room was she offering? YHA Manchester, General Manager at YHA Manchester, responded to this review Hello Mia,I can see from your reservation and from our CCTV that you arrived at the hostel at 14.55 our check in is from 15.00 and you were checked in at reception at 15.04, you then came down to our reception at 15.35. I can see the team members on reception looking at your phones, and then looking at our cleaning plan to see if your room was on the list to be cleaned that day, (it was) , and it had been cleaned. Our manager did apologize to you offered to change the bed linen or change your room, as we could have done this, at this time of day before we filled up at the hostel. You declined said you were leaving as you had booked somewhere else. The time you were at reception was 4 minutes which tells me you were leaving the hostel no matter what we tried to do to rectify the issue you had. You were told the process to go through to get a refund, and you said you would be e mailing. As soon as you leftl 2 of our managers went to check the room. There are no stains on the walls, the room did not smell disgusting, there was one bed that had a hair on ( I assure you it was not pubes!!) and for that I do apologize, as for the window it can be closed but has window restrictors, maybe this was why you were unable to close the window. The bathroom was also checked and it was clean. Re the call back to us, the 18th we were fully booked, your room was not sold to anyone else and was still available, and the person who spoke to only saw on our system we were full, as soon as we realized it was yourself who called, we tried to call you 3 times you did not answer, we e mailed you so that is how I presume you found out we could accommodate you. I appreciate you have been disappointed and we did not meet your expectations but the comments you have made re the homeless, the phrase "shack" and exaggeration of the cleanliness, not to mention saying we did not apologize or offer to correct the issue is unacceptable.

I travel a lot and this is genuinely the best hostel I’ve been to! It’s big, but not overcrowded and lots of seating area. The kitchen was super clean and everything was easy to find. The staff and people I ran into were all so kind. The beds had curtains which I was not expecting! You could hear the trams at night but it was nothing too bothersome, and the views were great. The location was pretty good for transport links, the room was a lovely temperature, they had lights and power sockets at your bed which isn’t the case for a lot of hostels. I was nervous about safety for my first time in Manchester but the area felt really safe even at night. YHA Manchester, General Manager at YHA Manchester, responded to this review Thank you for your great review, we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed our facilities and had a good stay here in Manchester. You stayed in one of our rooms where we are trailing new beds with curtains, its nice to hear you liked them. hope to see you again sometime :)

Great! Very clean and nice, the bunks are nice and modern and have good lighting, cozy and clean bed. Very pleased the bunks have curtains. Bathroom clean. Enough storage space. Help by frontdesk was lovely. Nice looking place. Local to the city centre. As a European, price was a bit steeper than what i am used to when it comes to paying for hostels but at least the stay was seamless, clean, kind.Cheers. YHA Manchester, General Manager at YHA Manchester, responded to this review Thank you Julias, great to hear you had a comfortable stay, you were checked into a room where we are trailing the new type of beds with the curtains, so its great to hear they are a hit!! Wonderful to hear you would stay with us again, see you soon. . :)
