Comfortable stay, great location, really helpful staff
21 Jun 2026
I stayed here mostly because of the location, which is perfect for an event on or near the High Street, but what sticks in my mind is how helpful the staff were. I felt really welcomed and as though nothing was too much trouble. The room I had was small, but well equipped and comfortable. Recommended. Unclean, run-down rooms - not recommended unless you get a very low rate
16 Jun 2026
I regret staying at this hotel even though the location is terrific. our room was not clean nor maintained (see photos). Even for a historic building, it was far below standards. It was also hot and some areas had bad smells. The good points: decent breakfast available at early hour, friendly breakfast staff. Victoria Beliakova, Guest Services / Front Office at Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel, responded to this review Dear LisanE4633VJ,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. Please accept our sincere apologies for the cleanliness and maintenance issues you experienced, as well as for the discomfort caused by the warm weather. Your comments have been taken seriously and shared with the relevant teams to ensure these matters are addressed. We are also pleased to let you know that the hotel is scheduled to undergo a refurbishment in the near future, which will include improvements to our guest rooms and facilities to provide a more comfortable experience for our guests.Thank you for your kind words regarding our convenient location, breakfast, and the friendliness of our breakfast team. We greatly appreciate your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with a much-improved stay.Kind regards,

Avoid
11 Jun 2026
Avoid. Rooms are unbelievably hot as the air conditioning is “permanently” broken. You will not sleep in the Summer. The management refused to offer any gesture of goodwill back and rolled out a robotic response with no care for a paying customer. Simply, once they have your money they do not care. There are better places to stay in Oxford. Victoria Beliakova, Guest Services / Front Office at Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel, responded to this review Dear F8271KKchristopherw,,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry to learn that you experienced discomfort during your stay due to the high temperatures. Unfortunately, during the period of your visit, Oxford was affected by an unusual heatwave, resulting in exceptionally warm conditions across the city. While these weather conditions were beyond our control, we fully understand the impact they may have had on your comfort. We would also like to clarify that air conditioning is not advertised as an amenity in our guest rooms. Nevertheless, we sincerely regret that the unusually high temperatures affected the quality of your stay and prevented you from enjoying the level of comfort you expected. We are equally sorry to learn that you felt your concerns were not met with the care and attention you deserved. We value every guest's feedback and strive to respond to all concerns with professionalism, understanding, and respect.Thank you once again for sharing your experience. While the circumstances were beyond our control, we genuinely regret the inconvenience caused and are sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations.Warm wishes,Victoria BeliakovaRooms Division Manager

great location , nice front desk team- especially the evening staff
11 Jun 2026
I have stayed here about four times for work. Sadly at this time of year the prices go up and it's outside my budget. Super helpful front desk, right in the middle of Oxford. No evening meal or room service but lots of options outside the front door . Victoria Beliakova, Guest Services / Front Office at Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel, responded to this review Dear E1946XXcatherinew, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for your continued loyalty to the hotel over your visits to Oxford. We are delighted to hear that our front desk team made such a positive impression. Your kind comments will be shared with the team, who will be thrilled to receive your recognition. We are also pleased that you continue to enjoy our central location and the convenience it offers for both business and leisure travellers. While we appreciate your comments regarding seasonal pricing, we are grateful that you chose to stay with us and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future.Warm wishes,Victoria BeliakovaRooms Division Manager
