A Very tired and rundown hotel in need of massive renovations!

Negatives - The hotel is quite large and need of massive investment to bring it up to standard. It is very dated, tired and rundown in numerous places. The carpets are old, the decor is awful, a lot of the rooms and corridors smell. The windows were very dirty and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for a few years. This is no bad reflection on the staff as I’m sure they know all this more than anyone but the owners need to put their hand in their pocket and sort it out. I thought it was fairly pricey for the quality of the hotel. Positives - The location is good, the staff were all very nice, everything seemed clean even though it was run down, bed was comfy,

Tired, depressing and overpriced hotel

Stayed here for one night with my family in a room with two double beds. The room was accessed across the courtyard from the main reception. The room itself had a tired grey carpet, the lighting in the room was provided by either bright spotlights in the ceiling or one old fashioned yellowing dim wall light (the other wasn't working) and a desk lamp. There was a smell in the bathroom each time the loo flushed. The bed was hard and extremely uncomfortable, the pillows lumpy and the duvet thin. The woodwork needed painting. The whole experience was depressing and drab and I had a bad night's sleep in the uncomfortable bed. The price was £331 which was a lot of money for such a tired room and a poor night's sleep. The car park was already full when we arrived so we paid for parking nearby. I do not recommend this hotel.

Head to be moved as first room was without a window, second room was barely functioning, creaking uneven floors, double glazing falling out, noise from the road, endless steps to get around. Really really disorienting as have enjoyed staying here many times but recently it’s just been terrible.

How can Hilton put its name to this place?

Genuinely one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had.Check-in set the tone, with staff who were rude, unhelpful and made us feel like an inconvenience rather than guests.The room was dirty and unbelievably noisy — easily the noisiest hotel bedroom I have ever stayed in. The bathroom actually flooded because there was no way to close the skylight properly.Breakfast was distinctly sub-par, and apparently asking for butter is too ambitious because they didn’t have any.We were also here for a conference, where lunch consisted of possibly the world’s smallest chicken wing, some pre-frozen chips and enormous vats of Heinz condiments. It felt more like a particularly bleak motorway service station lunch than catering at a Hilton-branded hotel.The whole building felt tired, dirty and frankly a little haunted — and not in a charming historic-York way.I genuinely cannot understand how Hilton is happy to have its name attached to this hotel. There are so many lovely places to stay in York; sadly, this deserves its place right at the bottom of the list.

Nice people, hard beds

A little stuffy because no AC and very humid during visit. Good location, close to York City Centre. Good accessible bathroom for mom with mobility issues though corridors & elevators were narrow for wheelchair use. Nice dinner (good pies), empty restaurant. Extremely nice, helpful staff.
