  Excellent location , very helpful staff , perfect stay . Large comfortable rooms . Car park facilities have changed since last visit and is expensive - NCP car park nearby , how ever did use the Hotels as easier and more convenient

  Wonderful stay in York!

  We loved our stay at The Grand Hotel in York. The hotel is beautiful, and the staff are amazing - courteous, friendly, willing to help at any moment. The rooms are large, comfortable, and beautiful. The location is perfect - it's an easy walk from/to the train station and a short walk across the bridge to all of the main sites in York. Wonderful stay, and we hope to go back again some day!

  The hotel’s beauty is outshined by the staff. Porters, concierge, check in, bar staff were all lovely and helpful. Providing clear instructions for meeting up with a tour group to restaurant recommendations as well as ensuring stay was top notch. The room was beautiful and clean, I was not disturbed by any noise from hallway or other rooms, unfortunately the bed was extremely firm. Easy location to walk to many sites, including close enough to walk to/from train station with luggage.   Yet another class stay at this elegant hotel. From the moment you arrive, you are treated like royalty and a friendly staff make you feel welcome. The hotel is located a few feet away from the station and the walls but retains an old fashioned charm with quaint rooms stuffed with cosy seating . We stayed in an accessible room on this occasion which had a great wet room and huge superking bed. The only downside as a wobbly walker is that it is a long way from reception and the main bar and restaurants. Anyway , the food was delicious as always. We didn't eat in the Legend this time though we have eaten there previously and it's a visual and culinary feast. The Rise is the main restaurant and breakfast has an amazing array of hot and cold dishes including beetroot smoked salmon , various cold meats and an innovative a la carte menu . A quick shout to ALL the restaurant and bar staff, especially Gemma ( bar), Zdenka,Chris,Ted,Jack & Tom in the Rise who looked after us so well,with humour and friendliness. Also the breakfast ladies- I hate peering at people's badges so I'm sorry I don't know your names. If you want a culinary treat, get Ted to assemble a tiramisu at the table for you! Now, a SPECIAL shout-out to the very hidden gem that is the Subrosa Asian fusion restaurant situated in the basement spa.. this is our second stay and we only found out about this wonderful restaurant by complete accident on our last day this time. Aside from the hotel's website I can't find any other social media mentions so I want to redress this. The menu is compact but with varying choice that would suit most. I had crispy duck pancakes to start and the Benton Box for a main. My partner had battered prawns, followed by a Thai red curry with salmon. All dishes beautifully presented and tasty. The drinks menu had a number of Asian inspired cocktails.. I had the Japanese Slipper and Pete had the most delicious strawberry & yuzu mojito. The star of the show is an extremely personable young man called Tyler, who in the night we went, was running the bar and the restaurant single handedly. He was extremely professional and helpful at explaining things, and he's destined to go far in the front of house culinary world!!We had a superb meal and will definitely be returning. I think walk ins are accepted too but space is limited so i'd recommend booking in advance. Last night there were only 3 of us but tonight there was due to be 32 people over 2 sittings, so for those in the know it's a popular choice locally!! Access is due by stairs or an elevator.Apologies that almost all photos today are of the Subrosa, ( plus Ted making his Tiramisu!). Thanks to all concerned on giving us another lovely stay!
