    Exceeded my expectations

    rating23 Sept 2026

Exceeded my expectations. An absolutely charming hotel in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, within walking distance of many of the area’s key historic and tourist sites. The staff were friendly, attentive, and on point throughout my stay. My room was clean and comfortable, and the restaurant was fantastic. I would absolutely stay here again.

    A Great Night Away

    rating23 Sept 2026

We stayed at The Alexandrian for a night away for my wife's birthday. Sam was fantastic coordinating our stay and got us upgraded to a suite. The staff were friendly, the room was huge and had that vintage classic feel to it and the breakfast was great. The location is also perfect for those wanting to walk to shops, restaurants, etc. Will definitely be back.

I SHOULD HAVE READ REVIEWS FIRST!!!!!!

    rating20 Sept 2026

I am not one to usually write a negative review, especially one involving a Marriott owned property, as we are Platinum Elite and love Marriott properties. But this one was one that should not even be under the Marriott Brand. Our air conditioning system was so loud -- it sounded like we were about to take off -- could not sleep. The bed was worn out and uncomfortable - could not sleept. And the towels -- well, they have been in use well past their prime -- didn't seem clean. The lighting in the bathroom area is ridiculous. The room and hallways in general, are dingy. One of the elevators does not work and it took us 20 minutes to check in and get to our room -- mostly because of the elevator issue. Will never stay here again -- and for the first time -- ever, I will now have to check reviews on all Marriott owned properties. Something I have never felt a need to do before.

A once excellent hotel now badly deteriorated, downright shabby, and understaffed

    rating10 Aug 2026

We've used this hotel many, many times over the years, but when Marriott took over its management, it quickly declined to the point that we swore five years ago never to return. We recently broke that oath and gave it another try in the hope that Marriott had finally gotten its act together. I'm sorry we did. The hotel might even be more of a shambles than it was five years ago. You can't help but get the feeling that they might be purposefully allowing it to deteriorate because they expect to close it down. We had no room phone. The jack had been physically cut out of the wall, and the phone was simply decoration since it wasn't connected to anything. On each of the three days we were there, we asked for it to be repaired, and on each of those three days we were simply ignored. The refrigerator didn't work, and we eventually had to fix that ourselves by pulling it out of its cabinet and moving it around the room until we found a working outlet for it. The television in our room didn't work either. It was finally fixed on the last day of our stay. On top of all that, the hotel is woefully understaffed. We repeatedly asked for luggage assistance on departure, and no one ever showed up to provide it. Eventually we had to take all our luggage down and load it ourselves, not an easy thing for a couple who's on in years to manage.Marriott should be ashamed to have its brand linked to this tribute to Faulty Towers, but it apparently doesn't much care. sam Shaheen, Guest Services / Front Office at The Alexandria Old Town Alexandria, Autograph Collection, responded to this review Dear Valued Guest,Thank you for sharing your feedback, and please accept our sincere apologies that your recent stay did not meet the standards you have come to expect from us. Great hotel, in the thick of historic Alexandria

    rating01 Aug 2026

I stay at this hotel a few times a year. Overall, it is great - wonderful location on historic King St: close to the restaurants, shops, entertainment. About a 5 minute walk from the water front and 15 minutes from the Metro (with frequent buses connecting). The atmosphere in the hotel is great, the staff are wonderful. The restaurant is traditionally Virginian. I really recommend staying. Rooms are a good size, the beds are very comfortable and given how noisy the street can be at night, not much street noise in the room. That may partly be because the heating/cooling system is incredibly loud.On the negative side - overall the hotel is overdue a serious renovation. Certain floors smell mouldy. I have seen vermin on past stays. Wall paper is peeling, Bathrooms are in need of a very deep clean. They also got rid of the pool during the pandemic. I don't think there is any hope of it coming back, but if it did, it would be a great addition. Finally - check your bill carefully at the end of your stay. They frequently add a destination fee ($25/night) when one is not included in the booked room rate. I have had to ask for it to be removed on multiple stays. Have your original reservation ready to show them when you check out, to prove there was no destination fee.
