  Serious Makeover Needed

  While the hotel staff was courteous and professional, the hotel itself was severely lacking. We checked into our room only to discover the bathroom had not been cleaned. When we were moved to a new room, it was like being in a sauna without any way to turn down the heat as the ac/heat unit was broken.

  2 star property with a nice lobby but pretty bad rooms.

  Today was a hot day in Anchorage. The Puffin Inn was not prepared. My first room had a broken AC and the electrical circuit kept tripping leaving us without power. Our second room had an AC that was not cold, but it is at least blew air around. The front desk cleck had a breakdown (crying) at the front desk because so many people were in a similar situation and were upset. I felt bad for her. Let's be honest...it's a 2 star hotel. It has a very nice lobby and is close the the airport. From there, things go straight down. In my 2nd room, the windows did not open. The carpet had a big stain. The AC did not really work. The room smell could best be described as musty. Having seen two rooms, a 2 star rating is realistic. For all this glamor, I paid over $250 for the night.

  RODENTS AND BUGS AT THE PUFFIN INN

  I have been staying at the Puffin inn for a couple of weeks now. I must say, im not impressed with the place. The advertisements look promising but looks can be deceiving. Upon arrival, i found that the water pressure at my sink was extremly low. So slow that it won't rinse the sink of the toothpaste without using a bowl to rinse with. Next, i found that the water pressure in the shower was the same. Than when i went to turn the heater up it didn't work. ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT I HAVE CAUGHT 4 RATS IN MY ROOM EATING MY FOOD. i CAUGHT THEM AND DISPOSED OF THEM AND THERES ANOTHER ONE NOW. OH! AND WHEN I ASKED STAFF FOR CLEANING SUPPLIES I WAS IGNORED. GOD DAMN THE PUFFIN INN. DO NOT STAY AT THE PUFFIN INN! THEY HAVE RATS!!!!!!!

  Disappointing Stay

  Our group's flight had gotten postponed so we had to scramble to get rooms. It took over 30 minutes to check us in, the staff did not seem to know what they were doing. They gave each of us three keys for our room. They forgot to put our names on each envelope so we had to wait even longer while they redid the keys. Our rooms were in the annex which is half a block away. You must drag your luggage down the sidewalk yourself. The annex is located on an extremely busy intersection so traffic is very loud which you can hear while you're trying to sleep. Upon opening the main door to the building, we were hit with a wall of heat. No problem, surely the room must be cool. None of my three keys worked so I had to drag my luggage back down to the main building to get new keys. I did not feel safe walking by myself so a friend accompanied me thankfully. Once I was able to get into my room, I was again hit by a wall of heat. The a/c was set on 60 but it had to be at least 80+. My room was on the ground floor so there was no sleeping with the window open. I did get a small fan from the front desk that looked like it was from the 50s which barely worked and threw off warm air. This was like being in a sweat box. I could not breathe, it was unbearable. The bathtub had black on the caulking (mold?) and the toilet had stains under the rim. Supposedly the hotel is under renovation but I'm not sure if it will include the annex. I ended up sleeping in my clothes and on top of the bedspread. I couldn't wait to leave. The photos that appear on the website certainly did not look like the room I stayed in. Wish I had taken my own photos but I couldn't wait to get out of there.

  This is the worst hotel. The bedroom remote would not work in the bedroom TV. Went in living room and there was no remote for that TV. I took bedroom remote to living room and it worked. Then I went to make coffee and there was old coffee in the pot with mold on top. I told the front desk about these issues and they acted indifferent. Didn't even say sorry. Their "breakfast" was more like continental. Toast, yogurt and coffee. They had hard boiled eggs, but no salt. I asked the front desk for some salt and they said someone must have taken it, so I need to look for it. The worst customer service I've experienced in a hotel.
