It's a great location if you're driving on Hwy 1 and the staff is very nice and friendly. They provide a roof over your head, a bed and a fridge. The room (including bathroom and linen) was dirty. The window was extremely difficult to shut (it didn't have a handle), the shades wouldn't close fully and the air conditioner/heating didn't turn on. If it would be maintained and cleaned properly it has potential to be a good motel but it's a far cry from being a hotel, definitely not worth what I paid.

Don't stay here if you have asthma.

I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but I feel it’s important to warn others—especially those with asthma or sensitivities.I stayed here with my family and was only able to remain in the room for about 30 minutes. There was a strong odor of mildew mixed with cleaning chemicals, which made the room unbearable. It seemed like the cleaner may have been used to mask the mildew smell. The curtains and bedsheets were also visibly stained.Unfortunately, the conditions triggered a severe asthma attack, and I had to check out immediately.I do want to note that the front desk attendant was very polite and professional. He took my information and said a manager would contact me the next day regarding a refund. That was on Wednesday, and as of Friday, I still have not received any follow-up.Additionally, when we arrived, there were individuals walking around the parking lot who did not appear to be guests, which made us feel uneasy.Given my experience, I would not recommend staying here. It’s surprising, especially considering the hotel is located across from a very nice shopping area.

Don't stay here.

This dump is next to a busy intersection and a gas station is in the parking lot. It is loud 24/7. The hallways are gross. The mattresses are old, lumpy and saggy. You can feel the springs! So not for anyone who wants a decent night's sleep. A/C is loud, but it works. That is the only positive. If you want peace and quiet or a decent bed, go somewhere else, anywhere else.

NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE. WHAT HAPPENED!?

I asked for a refund 40-minutes after checking in. The front desk was nice about a refund and wanted to accommodate me but couldn’t because I booked through a third party. I would have to deal with them directly or take the charge. More on that later.I would normally have sucked it up rather than lose one hundred dollars or make a fuss, at least the sheets and towels were clean, and the guy at the desk was nice. But my discomfort grew by the minute. It was that bad. I called my credit card company and asked to dispute the charge and left. This once was a good place. Our company used it for overnight business on a regular basis, and I have fond memories of the Crazy Horse (which looks long-time vacant). Someone needs to love this place again or mow it down. More importantly, someone should take down the photos that make it look like it’s still a nice place to stay. If you don’t look at reviews, you will be highly disappointed. Note that I didn’t catch the third-party charge (an additional $25) because the sponsored link reads “Redlionhotelmonterey-guestreservations” and I stupidly thought that it was the Red Lion Website. After that, the confirmation email came from "The Red Lion Hotel" (the domain was hotelsone.com). I didn't catch that either, and I only printed the first page of the confirmation with the hotel charge, the third-party charge is well below at the bottom on page two. Lesson learned. I’m hoping my credit card company will help with a refund.
