Claridge House Hotel Chicago is a NO GO!

    rating09 Jun 2026

We were in Room 1405. Our room was the size of my walk-in closet at home. The bathroom was so tiny I couldn't close the door if using the toilet. Our view was of the fire escape. The HVAC unit was ancient and noisy. There was neither a smoke detector nor a carbon monoxide detector. We had to request a luggage rack because there was none in the room. There were neither towel bars nor grab bars in the bathroom. There was no free coffee in the lobby. Miss Cookie at the Front Desk has no business in the hospitality industry. She is rude and has an "attitude." We checked in on June 6th and checked out as fast as we could find another hotel on June 7th after paying for 3 nights in advance through Hilton Honors. We checked into the Viceroy, a far superior experience. I would NEVER recommend the Claridge House to anyone other than a college student. It was truly "roughing it" for us. We are 78 and 82 years old. This is definitely not a hotel for Seniors. Not what I expected based on photos from their website

    rating15 May 2026

I reserved a room with a queen size bed, and that is exactly what I got. The bed was the entire room- it was no bigger than a dorm room. The staff quickly found me a new room.2 queens and much more spacious. Aside from no toilet paper in the room- the toilet is a mini toilet- very short(I am 5’1” and it was short even for me) there was no blowdryer, no door on the closet(looks like they removed it for some reason), windows were really dirty, the “restaurant” had a very small menu- not many options. The refrigerator was not very cold(i put a bag of ice in there to help cool off my water. There is no dresser or drawers to put clothes away other than a shelf above the closet. I will say this hotel is in a great location on a beautiful tree lined street- Drugstore, grocery store and restaurants are walking distance. The lobby is nice with plenty of seating(for the size). I did have a $15 credit for food- but there were not many options on site. There is a small desk in the room but nowhere else to sit other than the bed. The rooms air conditioner works very well. It is very loud which woke me up throughout the night.Overall- this hotel was not what I had expected for the amount of money I spent. It is a “boutique” style hotel- and I was alone which made it tolerable. Not for families-for sure! Colin Challender, at Claridge House Chicago, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, responded to this review Hi Robin,Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay. I am glad we were able to get you a larger room, but am sorry for the issues in it. Our rooms come standard with blow dryers (and toilet paper). I will be providing the feedback to the head of Housekeeping to address with the team. I am glad you enjoyed our location, and we are getting a facelift coming up soon! If you plan to return to us, please feel free to reach out to me directly, and I will make sure your room and your stay are perfect! Thanks again,Colin C.General Manager

Just pay more money and no mystery deals

    rating05 May 2026

I just wanna say, the rooms are very small. It’s very hard to take a shower in this room because had to close the door and squeeze yourself in through the shower. The location is great. That atmosphere that’s one I didn’t feel welcome in at all. It was okay as far as clean, but it could’ve been cleaner. I paid 425 for three nights on hotwire.com mystery deal otherwise I would never pick this place. There was a lot of the door slamming in the middle of the night . what service? I have no idea what amenities were at all. After reading other reviews since I’ve been home, I didn’t know they had a wine happy hour thing and some other things I had no idea. This is kind of upsetting because I stay at other Hilton properties in Chicago that were way better than this. Colin Challender, Owner at Claridge House Chicago, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, responded to this review Hi Regina,I am so sorry for the lack of service you received. It is not typical for our hotel. We will be addressing the lack of information you received about our service and amenities with our front desk to ensure that we are covering that with all of our guests as they come in. We also have larger rooms available. I am not familiar with the mystery deal you booked but if we have upgrades available, we will offer them at arrival. If your travels bring you back to us, please feel free to reach out to me directly and I will personally ensure you receive the service you deserve and a room that best fits your needs. Thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback. We hope you will give us another opportunity to showcase our service. Sincerely, Colin

A quiet respite in the heart of the city

    rating01 May 2026

This hotel is 2 blocks from the red line (metro), several bus lines, and in walking distance to the Lake Shore and shopping. If you plan to spend time in multiple neighborhoods, this hotel is a great base. The building is older, but not dingy. The rooms are spacious regarding the closet and seating area, but snug for the bathroom. The toilet/shower area is separate, which is a plus if you are traveling with a few people. The toilet/shower area is a bit dim and there isn’t a fan to remove the steam/humidity. The bathroom has one hook (behind the bathroom door) and no where for hanging towels or toiletry bags. The beds were comfortable, with a good number and variety of pillows. The room I stayed in had four large windows that received bright light and had the view of the beautiful brownstones across the street. The curtains sufficiently kept the room dark when I wanted it. The staff was wonderful— every one smiled and greeted me and helped me with the questions I had. I didn’t experience any issues regarding safety or cleanliness. Despite the age of the hotel, I only heard hallway sounds (rolling luggage, brief chatter, and elevator chimes) and never was disturbed by noise from nearby guest rooms. There is soft seating in the lobby to regroup or take a quick break before heading upstairs or outside. I believe this hotel is dog friendly and the neighborhood is as well. There is a sushi restaurant that is open for dinner and a cafe that is open most of the day and late into the night. I can’t speak to either because the sushi place requires reservations and the cafe didn’t have servers on my way out or in each day. If you are interested in restful nights while in Chicago, this is the place! Colin Challender, Owner at Claridge House Chicago, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, responded to this review Hi DisBoiCrispy,Thank you for the 5 star review and thoughtful comments about our hotel! We hope to see you again in the future and maybe next time you will have a chance to enjoy Sushi by Bou! Safe and Happy Travels,Colin

    Grand old hotel

    rating28 Apr 2026

Grand old hotel in a hustling but upscale neighborhood. Small elevator, room, etc., but charming and with some modern conveniences added. Within a block of several nice restaurants. Colin Challender, Owner at Claridge House Chicago, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, responded to this review Hi Eiichi,Thank you so much for the review and feedback. We love the neighborhood here, too! We have some larger room types available for guests looking for more space. Let us know the next time you come back and we will see if we can get you in something a little bigger. Thanks for staying with us!Colin
