    Hilton Garden Inn was a huge disappointment

    Stayed one night in a junior suite at Hilton Garden Inn North Shore and had one of the worst nights of sleep in a long time. The bed was extremely firm, and the pillows were completely worn out with little to no support.The room’s air conditioner made things worse—it was loud and oddly placed, with the vent right next to the bed blowing directly on me all night.The bar experience didn’t help either. My martini was poorly made, and the bartender didn’t seem to know how to prepare a Cosmopolitan, which is a pretty standard cocktail.The room layout was also strange and not very functional. Overall, the hotel feels very worn. The carpet in the room was dirty, and the common areas showed visible signs of neglect. This property is clearly in need of a refresh.Would not stay again.

    Be wary of upgrade costs and outdated rooms compared to those around the area

    Be very careful when you agree on upgrading your room. I upgraded from a king to a king junior suite and the price was not what I was quoted for. I called the Hilton Line and the only response was that I should have declined the upgrade. The upgrade is $100 more than my original hotel room from my email. The hotel is dated. There isn’t even glasses in the room to drink only paper cups. When I asked the front desk , they just gave me more paper cups. For the same price of $262, I would have gotten the same room at Hyatt House a few blocks down with free breakfast and omelet station.

    Not a Warm Welcome

    My complaint with the Evanston Hilton Garden Inn is that upon arrival at 7:30 pm on Christmas Eve, we found the lobby doors locked and not a soul to be seen at the check-in desk, which was clearly visible from the locked vestibule door. Signage on the wall of the vestibule informed me that the lobby doors were locked for guests' safety and that I should scan my key card for entry or "Use The Main Entrance" or "Call For Assistance." But I was in fact at the main entrance and I didn't know who or how to call; there was no house phone or posted phone number or clearly labeled button to push. And I was befuddled, because I don't believe that I have ever arrived at a hotel to find the lobby doors locked. And this was Evanston, IL ... hardly a high-crime area. Eventually, I found a door in the rear of the hotel, noticed a box with the words "press here" emblazoned on it, pressed, and was buzzed in by a woman who had apparently been in a closed-door office behind the check-in desk. She made no apology for the inconvenience of the locked doors. Instead, she implied, I felt, that I was at fault for not understanding the (to me) very unclear posted signage. It was not a welcoming beginning to our stay here, and it could so easily be remedied. Just post some clear signage. Or at the very least, empathize with the weary and confused traveler. The room itself was fine. The lobby restaurant was closed because of the holiday, so I can't comment on breakfast offerings.

    Dark Room, Flooded Shower, Zero Service — Avoid at All Costs!

    Avoid at ALL COSTS!!The location is the only good thing about this hotel — it’s close to the train station. However, everything else was a nightmare.When I entered the room, the curtain was completely broken, so I couldn’t open it at all — the room was pitch dark with no natural light. The shower drain was fully clogged, flooding the bathroom floor, and there was no body wash provided. I called the front desk for help, and after 30 minutes, no one ever showed up.When I tried to file a complaint with Hilton, the front desk told me they’re just a franchise and “not a real Hilton.” With this level of service and poor amenities, I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel at all costs.     Very expensive, basic hotel

    The Hilton Garden Inn in Evanston is a basic hotel, I was here for 5 nights. What you would expect from a Garden Inn. Rooms are clean and well furnished. Breakfast a la carte was OK. It was very expensive for a Hilton Garden Inn, as it´s a convenient location for Northwestern University, they charge whatever they want. They don´t have housekeeping, unless you ask them to have your room cleaned.I think next time I´m in Evanston I will try another hotel, this is the second time I stay at this hotel, because of its location, and was charged close to $400 dollars a night for a regular double room!
