Poor service, poorly appointed rooms, horrible stay!

    rating07 Jun 2026

I’m writing this review as a current guest at Hotel Lincoln. This is my family’s fourth stay here in 5 years and it’s been incredibly disappointing. As a Hyatt Lifetime Globalist, we’ve enjoyed our previous stays here so much. Out of all the Hyatt properties in the city, we chose this one to bring a family member who’s seeing Chicago for the first time. The location is excellent, the vibe was quaint, and past service was good. We were excited to learn that the 1 bedroom suite assigned to us was on a remodeled floor. Immediately upon entering the room, we noticed that it was rather sparsely decorated. The suite is modern but very plain, and the only art on the walls is above the bed. That would not be a big deal if the room was actually well-appointed. There is hardly any storage whatsoever. In a nearly 600 square foot room that sleeps at least 3 adults, we have nowhere to place our belongings. Our options - a narrow closet about 2 feet wide, a small drawer in the bottom of the closet, and a skinny drawer in each desk. There is a 6’ long x 3’ wide area with only a mirror — we put our son’s inflatable bed here because it’s wasted space. In the bedroom, there is a massive empty area in back sort of behind the bad, where our suitcases lay on the floor because, what else is this space for? No closet, no shelves, bars, hooks, dressers, drawers — it’s like they forgot to add furniture! The nightstands don’t have storage either. It’s the most poorly designed room I may have ever stayed in. Our photos sort of make us look like slobs but there isn’t anywhere to put anything. The two bathrooms are identical, and tiny. I get it, it’s an old hotel and I don’t expect a huge bathroom. But they could have been furnished in a more efficient way. The space at the bottom of each sink is about 5” high so it’s not very practical. No shelf or cabinet to store toiletries, and no place in the shower to hold anything except for balanced on top of the narrow shampoo dispenser unit. We’re booked for 6 nights and were stressed out after Day 1, with our clothes just lying in the suitcase on the floor and a bathroom where you can’t store the things you need each morning and night. We’ve been reduced to hanging our shirts from the wall-mounted television, no joke.Housekeeping has been poorly executed. At check in, we requested they make up the pull out couch for our guest. They came in and dropped a pile of pillows and a balled up sheet on the couch… not a folded sheet, a balled up sheet. I thought they went to get something else and would return to make the bed. After 30 minutes, when they didn’t come back, I realized they just threw everything down on the couch for us to do it ourselves. When I called to speak with a front desk supervisor, she was very blasé about the situation and just stated she would ask them to return, with no apology or acknowledgment that it was not handled properly. The next day, during regular room servicing, they took all the dirty towels but didn’t replace them with new ones, so we had to share one towel for showering. We requested towels be brought up when we left for the evening, but they never were. Today, they did the same thing again! They didn’t replace any of the towels, didn’t empty any trash or replenish the toilet paper. Two of the three elevators were broken on a busy Saturday, in an old building that doesn’t have a service elevator and shares its elevator service with a popular rooftop bar. My husband saw the line and realized it would take 20-30 minutes to get upstairs, and decided to walk up 11 floors to our room because he didn’t have time to wait. When we needed to leave for dinner, a group of guests had been waiting in our hallway for 20 minutes and couldn’t get on the elevators because they were full of passengers from the rooftop bar before they even got to our floor. So, we had to walk down 11 stories with our 5 year old. The next morning, I called the front desk to ask if they were going to fix the elevators, because I needed to plan ahead for that. They played it off as if it was no big deal. I said, “You’re not the one who had to walk up and down 11 stories yesterday!”The cafe in the lobby, Elaine’s, is intended to be the hotel’s breakfast spot and as a Globalist, I’m given a daily credit there. They didn’t have any food to offer except for some premade biscuit sandwiches and potato chips. A case for pastries sat empty for days. This morning, some cinnamon buns and cookies finally showed up. They had fresh fruit cups one day, but not again. There are no real options here for vegetarians or vegans or anyone who wants to have a choice in what they eat. For a boutique hotel in a major city to be without a real breakfast offering is embarrassing, and for this to be the only option that you offer a globalist is almost insulting.I called down to the front desk to ask when a General Manager would be back on duty, and the staff couldn’t even answer that question. It’s just a joke at this point. We’re so frustrated and furious over this stay. I know we’re not the only guests having a poor experience because we’ve had the chance to talk to other guests sharing housekeeping snafus and elevator mishaps. I don’t know if there has been a management or ownership change, but Hotel Lincoln has no right being classified as a Joie de Vivre property. The overall experience and service has been horrible. We’re from the city but now live in the suburbs, and come down frequently for short stays. We have given Hyatt a lot of money over the years, but this experience has completely soured our opinion of Hotel Lincoln and I seriously doubt we will be back.

    Worst Experience.

    rating07 Jun 2026

I paid a total of $719 for my room. The bathroom was so small, I couldn't even sit on the toilet without the sink pushing me forward. The room itslef was tiny!! The hallways, elevators, and room doors were dirty and old. They gave me drink tickets with nowhere to use them since the rooftop bar was closed due to a broken elevator, yet they charged me $20 amenities fee. There were no amenities. Very disappointed. A one start hotel at 4 start price. Never again!!! General Manager, Guest Services / Front Office at Hotel Lincoln, responded to this review We are sorry to learn that your stay was so disappointing. We regret that the room size and bathroom layout did not provide the comfort you expected, and the overall ambiance left a less-than-favorable impression. We also regret that you were unable to use the drink vouchers at the rooftop bar; alternatively, they could also be used in Elaine's Coffee Call. We are sorry if you were unaware of this. Your comments are valuable to us and have been shared with the appropriate teams as we continually evaluate opportunities to improve our accommodations and overall guest experience. Feedback such as yours helps us better understand where enhancements can make the greatest impact for our guests.Sincerely,Drew SchneiderGeneral Manager

    Disaster of a stay

    rating07 Jun 2026

We have stayed at this hotel several times. This stay was particularly unpleasant, although I will say that the staff was doing everything they could for guests during a difficult time. First of all, 2 of the 3 elevators were not working. They ended up closing the rooftop bar due to the difficult access. They give you drink coupons that you are unable to use even if the bar is open due to lack of seating availability. It is either completely reserved or closed for a private event. Secondly, after washing my hair, the hairdryer in the room did not work. I tried calling the front desk, but the phone in the room did not work as well. So, with 20 minutes before having to leave and wet hair, I took the stairs down to the desk (as the one working elevator was packed) and had to request a working hairdryer be delivered to the room ASAP. At one point, the mattress cover came loose and there was some type of awful stain on it that was quite disturbing (photo attached). For what adds up to almost $1000/night after taxes and fees, it was unacceptable. We love Lincoln Park, and the location is great, but this experience may have been enough to make us look elsewhere in the future. General Manager, Guest Services / Front Office at Hotel Lincoln, responded to this review As a repeat guest, it is especially disappointing to learn that this stay fell so far short of your previous experiences with us. We sincerely apologize for the numerous inconveniences you encountered, including the amenities and the elevator outages. These issues are certainly not reflective of the experience we strive to provide. At the same time, we appreciate your recognition of our team's efforts during a challenging period, and your feedback has been shared with our engineering and housekeeping teams for immediate review. We are grateful for your loyalty over the years and are truly sorry that this visit has caused you to reconsider staying with us in the future. Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention, as feedback such as yours is essential to our improvement. We hope to have the opportunity to restore your confidence in us.Sincerely,Drew SchneiderGeneral Manager

Overall, I Recommend (Renovated Rooms Only)

    rating07 Jun 2026

Overall, this was a very pleasant experience. I was in town for a work gala & this was the property that was selected for our group block. I opted for the renovated room which I'm very grateful I did. Colleagues of mine who had the unrenovated rooms where surprised just how dates & worn down they were. The bathrooms are extremely small & the room decor is lacking. The lobby had a lot of character but that wasn't the case in the guest rooms. The walls were white, very sterile & lacked warmth. The cafe is cozy that's right off the lobby (connected). They ran out of food by 11am so if you're looking for a bite from there, I recommend getting there earlier. The rooftop bar was lovely. Cozy, great drinks & epic views. General Manager, Guest Services / Front Office at Hotel Lincoln, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are delighted to know that you had a pleasant stay with us and enjoyed the convenience of staying at Hotel Lincoln while attending your work event. We are pleased that you enjoyed the rooftop bar and the ambiance. We also appreciate your comments regarding the renovated room. As we continue our renovation efforts, feedback such as yours is invaluable in helping us identify opportunities to enhance the guest experience. Thank you again for your thoughtful review. We appreciate your patronage and hope to welcome you back on a future visit to Chicago.Sincerely,Drew SchneiderGeneral Manager
