    Worst beds in the world.

    rating06 Jun 2026

The beds here ruined our vacation. We were here for nine nights. We were initially given room 1305. Not only was it an intensely uncomfortable mattress, but the door side of it had collapsed and was so slanted that when I rolled onto my side in the middle of the night, I rolled right off of the bed and hit my head on the faux marble nightstand, putting a big gash in my head. I had such a severe headache (probably a concussion) for the next two days that we had to cancel our activities. We asked to be moved and were given a room on the 4th floor. The bed in that room was so lumpy and painful that sleep was impossible. I’ve been camping in the mountains with a $20 sleeping bag and once slept on a pile of rocks in a dry creek bed – and that was more comfortable than this mattress. We would have slept on the floor but the floor was filthy. This was a little baffling as everything above floor level was immaculate. (No complaints about the cleanliness of the bathroom other than the floor.) According to our sleep trackers, we got an average of two hours of sleep a night, which meant we dragged through the days and cancelled many of our plans due to exhaustion. They’re seriously the most vile beds – using that term loosely as it’s just a lumpy mattress on a hard, low platform - that I’ve ever experienced. But this wasn’t the only problem with the room or hotel. The differences between the 13th and 4th floors were notable. There was zero hot water and very little water pressure in the shower on the upper floor. (Plenty of both on the fourth.) There was an extra chair in the fourth floor room and garbage cans, which 1305 had lacked. The towels in both rooms were miserable. Thin and threadbare, not big enough to go around a body, about as absorbent as paper towels. Two out of the three in the first room had tears. Weirdly, the last day we were there we got towels that were notably bigger and thicker. Getting extra or clean towels was always a challenge. We made requests on three different days and were told housekeeping would send some up, but that never happened. I even left notes for housekeeping with extra tips, and we still didn’t get more than three towels. (Also, why three? Why not four so we could each have two and actually attempt to get mostly dry?) The hotel also told some half-truths that ended up being a big problem. I’m a diabetic and need a refrigerator for medication and diabetic-safe snacks. When I booked the suite I asked over the phone if there was a fridge, explaining why I needed one. They assured me that yes, there was, no problem, and that there was a full kitchenette. What they didn’t say is that the fridge is so packed full of their exorbitantly priced mini bar items that it’s unusable. The “full kitchenette” is a tiny sink, two cupboards, and a Keurig style coffee pot that you can’t use because there’s nothing to move water from the sink into it. (And for those of you looking forward to the rooftop bar, forget it, it’s for private party use only. I don’t drink so I didn’t care, but my spouse was very disappointed.) They also advertise breakfast is available but don’t tell you it’s again outrageously priced gas-station style plastic-wrapped sandwiches and the like. The “bar and lounge” is literally a few stools pulled up to the check in/out counter and a couple two person tables right along the pathway everyone walks in and out. And the worst part of all of this is the hotel is incredibly overpriced for the misery you have to endure. We booked in advance to get the 40% discount and after all their fees and nonsense it was still about $270 a night. (And we did not incur extra charges or touch their crazy minibar items.) I might recommend this hotel to someone I hated. I would tell everyone else to go anywhere, literally anywhere, but here. Unless you want back pain, dirty feet, and a ruined vacation too.

Impressive room size and comfortable sleeping, no noise control and misleading advertisement of rooftop bar

    rating26 May 2026

We were excited to have access to a rooftop bar but did not realize that the "take your gathering" on the website did not mean the group you were with. We found out the rooftop has not been accessible for over three years except for private events. We were not even allowed to access the rooftop even without the bar being open. I received a survey and was asked if I visited the rooftop bar. That was a little strange. If you are looking to take an afternoon nap or sleep in, then beware of the lack of soundproofing. The door latching is extremely loud and annoying. I thought the neighbors may have been slamming the door but that was not the case. I tried to gently shut our door and the latch noise is just very loud. The hotel is in a convenient location. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. However, I would explore other options when I return to Chicago. Tony Marco, General Manager at Ivy Hotel, responded to this review Dear Valued Guest,Please accept our apologies for the communication error regarding the availability of our rooftop. We pride ourselves on maintaining a pristine environment, and it is clear that the noise issues you experienced during your visit prevented that. We appreciate your positive comments on our location and the comfort level of our rooms. We hope you do choose us again during a future visit to the city. Sincerely,Tony MarcoIvy Hotel Management

Fabulous welcoming stay at the Ivy!

    rating20 Apr 2026

I just finished a 10 day stay at The Ivy Hotel. It was a very difficult time for me as my daughter was a patient at Northwestern hospital. Francine and Carlos were so professional and caring that without them I don’t know how I would have gotten through the process. They were flexible with scheduling and always very pleasant! I would definitely choose The Ivy again and recommend it to anyone who enjoys easy access to the lake, restaurants and Michigan Ave! Tony Marco, General Manager at Ivy Hotel, responded to this review Dear Valued Guest,Thank you so much for your kind words! We are especially glad to hear that Francine and Carlos made such a positive impression on your stay; we will be sure to share your praise with them. It is our goal to make every guest feel at home, and knowing that our team’s caring attitude and professionalism hit the mark means the world to us. We look forward to seeing you again!Sincerely,Tony MarcoIvy Hotel Management
