Enjoyable Stay

Stayed here for 5 nights as a couple and overall really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in a fantastic location, just a couple of minutes’ walk from Michigan Avenue, Water Tower Place and 360 Chicago. Lots of restaurants and a Walgreens nearby, plus a bus stop which was really handy and saved our feet a few times! ??Our room was large, clean and comfortable, with a great shower, good toiletries, hairdryer and iron although the rooms do need updating and a mirror at the desk would be nice. The housekeeping staff were lovely and the beds were comfy, but we could have done with a few more pillows.A couple of things to be aware of: we arrived at 1:40pm and were told our room was ready, but would have to pay $40 for early check-in as it was before 2pm. We declined and left our bags with the porter instead. There’s also a daily destination fee of around $30, although this included free water, and a $100 per night security deposit which seemed high. The deposit was returned within 2 days of getting home.The hotel itself is a lovely historic building, and the bar area was nice and always seemed busy. We also received a discount voucher towards food in the restaurant, although we never used it as there are so many great places to eat in Chicago!Overall, a really enjoyable stay in a brilliant location. We loved Chicago and would return! ??????

Needs a refurb

We booked in here for four nights. The whole hotel is somewhat tired and in need of a refurbishment. Carpets are all a little worn, elevators are ancient, there is an overall feeling of brown, the sort of brown you get in buildings from years of smoking. Having arrived at around 15:30, we had a quick freshen in the room and went down for a coffee. Couldn’t get one, the hotel stops serving coffee at 14:00! They could do nothing about it. So went round the corner to the Chapel street café. The room has the same brown feel with worn carpets. The shower needs sorting out. Two controls and two shower heads (one hand held, one rain storm/drizzle) but it was hard to work out the correct combinations of turns. Both controls seem to turn either shower on/off and hot cold. The safe is on a high shelf in the wardrobe, easy to leave something behind, and there is no mirror in the room. Only one side of the bed has a usable light that can be reached from the bed.Breakfast on the first day was a la carte. We were allowed two eggs (fried/Scrambled/poached/boiled) Bacon or Sausage, potatoes, some fruit in a glass, one slice of toast and coffee. Not very impressive. The subsequent days were the buffet and was much better. Friendly staff. Comfortable quiet rooms, good shower, easy access. Would stay again.

This hotel is older, and the room was kind of small, for the money. But it is Chicago in summer, in prime real estate. Near everything. The bed was VERY comfortable. The shower is actually great. Bathroom only one sink, and our view was awful, but we are NEVER in the room. I need a quiet comfortable place to sleep and bathe, and this hotel has all of that, and is right where I need it to be. IT seems well built, because we couldn't hear anything going on around us. Hidden Treasure in the Knickerbocker

I walked in to the lobby of the KNICKERBOCKER Hotel looking for a place to have breakfast. How lucky could I get! What a joy to find the restaurant just off the lobby. It is inviting, comfortable and a real treasure in my area. I am a local, but displaced right now because of a flood in my condo. I have since been to this restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner a number of times and intend to be a regular.The staff, including Alex, Alberto, Jose, Victor the manager and everyone else, is outstanding. Even when I was not in their area, they stopped to check and make sure everything was good. All were caring and positive and truly made me feel comfortable and well taken care of. And let’s not forget the food. Excellent and very reasonable! Everything I’ve had has been delicious, fresh and well prepared. A true treasure in the Gold Coast. Check it out. Arrived without a reservation and was going to book at the front desk. The front desk manager could not give me the same rate that the hotel has on their “own” website. Had to spend an hour and a half jumping through hoops on the hotels website. Not a third party website mind you.. NOT Expedia or booking.com but the hotels own website!!! Not helpful.
