AVOID, AVOID, AVOID! DIRTY HOTEL, RUDE EMPLOYEES, has BUGS.

    rating26 Jan 2025

This hotel is nothing short of a 'COMPLETE DUMP'. In addition to their extremely rude employees, this HOTEL is filthy, smells of weed and curry and doesn't even deserve one (1) star (see photos). I've actually stayed at this property a total of three times and this being my last (Red Lion should be embarrassed to have their name on this property). Three times I've seen the same clerk upon checking in (a big heavy-set East Indian guy). Not once has he ever even said 'hello', welcome back, welcome to Red Lion, nothing! it's always the same; "last name, credit card and drivers lisc. This visit I arrived to the hotel early (11:30am). I began the (sterile/unfriendly) check-in process and the clerk stated he would be charging me a $30 early check-in fee - to which I declined. He then stated check-in was at 3pm. I decided to leave and go to the gym and run some errands. I eventually returned to the hotel 5.5 hours later at approx 5:30pm. I checked-in with a clerk named 'Mo'. I mentioned to Mo how this was my third visit to this property and each time I've been met with the same rudeness by the same clerk (name unknown). Mo knew exactly who I was speaking about and said, "was it the big-fat guy" (those were his {exact} words, not mine), I answered yes. He checked me in, gave me room 216. I went up dropped my luggage and immediately left the hotel and returned 5.5 hours later at 11:00pm. I had leftover food and went to put it in the refrigerator - the fridge did not work (see pics), I then attempted turn on the television... it too did not work (both were plugged in, neither worked). I decided to just go to bed. The following morning I went down to partake in the complimentary breakfast - the snotty clerk informed me it ends at 8am (I said even on the weekends?). He said (very snottily) EVERY DAY 5am-8am! I returned to the room to shower and vacate this dump. I entered the bathroom, looked to the floor and there were ants crawling under the restroom base-boards. I showered, dressed and prepared to leave. I had thrown some clothes on the bed and looked down and saw hair on the bed (that was NOT mine). Ironically, the night before as I prepared to sleep, I thought to myself, 'these pillows looked rather suspect as if the pillow-cases had possibly NOT BEEN changed or previously slept on). Extremely tired I went to sleep. Upon checking out. I told the clerk/manager about the discrepancies: rude employee, ants in restroom, hair in bed and TV and fridge both inoperative - and showed him the photos. His response was: "well why didn't you call down last night and tell us!". I explained i was tired and just wanted to sleep, and that i didn't find the bugs and the hair until this morning. He offered NO apology or otherwise - otherwise than it was my fault for not telling anyone the night before! Wow! I'll add, I asked upon checking-in if the hotel was at occupancy (to which I was told, not at all!), there were four or five vehicles in the parking lot (including mine), the clerk told me, the earlier (nasty clerk) could have surely checked me in early free-of-charge since there were so many vacancies. The property smells of weed and curry, when I returned at 11pm, there were several (suspect in appearance) characters loitering in the hallway - doors continually slamming, lots of chatter and voices (needless to say, my door was doubled locked). Also if you need to charge your phone or computer - you needed a 3'foot cord (or longer) to reach the one plug and USB socket - as they're located 3'-4' feet above the bed (see photos). My overall assessment of this hotel is: IT'S A COMPLETE AND TOTAL FILTHY DUMP! Close inspection of their rooms and facilities will TOTALLY gross you out! AVOID IT. We were a little worried since we have never heard of Red Lion Inn ....

We were a little worried since we have never heard of Red Lion Inn and Suites, but very pleased with the service and the room. Lots of room. Mini fridge and microwave in room. Beds were a little hard, but I think all hotel beds are. The rooms were spacious and clean.

    A basic room

    rating31 May 2024

Over price for what is provided. Only one of the beds was somewhat comfortable. Most of the lights were not working, making the room dark. What they called a free breakfast was shameful. No juice or milk. I would not consider this to be a breakfast. There's not much about the hotel.

    Perfectly reasonable and clean stay

    rating06 May 2023

Stayed here for a dance event in the suburbs of Chicago. I was a bit worried by past reviews, but it turned out to exceed expectations:PROS1. Check-in and check-out: I had to book 4 rooms for my group, so a bit more complicated logistically. The staff were very friendly and helpful once I arrived to help sort things out. Checkout was very easy.2. The room itself: It was clean, comfortable bed, and fast Internet. No frills, but bathroom had lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and little soap for hand washing/showering. AC worked well. Gets natural light. No roaches or visible mold.3. Parking - free and feels safe even though it's not particularly "close" to anything.4. Price point - by far the most cost-effective option for hotels in Elk Grove.CONS1. Fan in the bathroom - glad there's ventilation of some kind, but it seemed kind of finicky and would turn on and off at will. It was hard to figure out how to turn it on and off.2. Breakfast - glad it exists! Free coffee, bagels, instant oatmeal packs, and apples. I wish they didn't use styrofoam and that there was a *little bit more* available.3. Transportation: If you're coming here by car, no issues. Also, Ubers in the area are not super expensive and come pretty quickly (unless it's to/from the airport - then it's $20-30! :O). However, there is no shuttle to/from the airport. It seems like there's a local bus stop (?) but didn't try it. You could potentially take a shuttle to/from another hotel and walk 10 minutes, but it's on a 4-6 lane, busy road.Overall, we had a great stay and it served our purposes of having an inexpensive and clean place to sleep during our dance festival in Elk Grove. Would stay here again for sure!

The staff is rude! The location is good, the beds we’re comfortable and the property was clean. Breakfast is awful and consisted of hard bagels you could play hockey with muffins or cereal but nothing to drink! Very hard to get extra towels or toilet paper there was three of us we got two towels and one wash cloth. Never again will we stay here
