A Legendary Hotel That Feels Stuck in Time

    rating03 Jun 2026

The Mansion on Turtle Creek occupies a special place in hotel history as the original Rosewood property, and that legacy is evident from the moment you arrive. The staff were warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming throughout our stay. Our room was comfortable, well-maintained, and the service was exactly what one would expect from a luxury hotel. That said, I left feeling surprisingly disappointed.Having stayed at Rosewood properties around the world — including Santa Barbara, Munich, Vienna, Kona. and São Paulo —I’ve come to view Rosewood as the gold standard in luxury hospitality. Unfortunately, The Mansion no longer feels aligned with the rest of the brand. The physical property feels very dated, not in a charming or historic sense, but in a way that feels tired and overdue for reinvention. Looking out over the pool area, I was struck by how bleak it felt—more institutional than resort-like. The atmosphere throughout much of the property felt dark, heavy, and frankly a bit depressing.I understand that this hotel is a Dallas institution, and many people undoubtedly have fond memories here. But luxury hospitality has evolved dramatically, and this property has not kept pace. With new luxury competitors entering the market, including Four Seasons, it feels like the time has come for a complete reimagining rather than incremental updates. This review is not a criticism of the staff, who were excellent, nor of the history of the property. It’s simply that one of the world’s greatest hotel brands deserves a flagship in Dallas that reflects where Rosewood is today, not where it was decades ago.For me, this felt more like a beautiful memory than a world-class luxury hotel.

Money being more important than people or experience.

    rating25 Apr 2026

We’ve picked Rosewood mansion because it appeared elegant old world, high-quality, and spacious. Our daughter picks us up from Dallas Fort Worth airport in her Escalade and brings us to the Rosewood mansion. She has prepared a beautiful basket with a bottle of champagne, two champagne, glasses, and some cheese and crackers. We arrive at Rosewood mansion. The valet brings our two bags and the gift basket in and immediately we are surrounded. They confiscate the gift bag and say it's illegal to bring champagne into any accommodation establishment in Texas. We questioned that because we have gone to very high-end resorts and hotels in Texas in the past and we were able to bring our own champagne or bottle of wine to our room to enjoy. They informed us very rudely that at this establishment all alcohol and food must be purchased from the establishment. Certainly, not a very good start to our three night visit. Our daughter, of course, was disappointed because she had made special effort to make it special for our visit. For Rosewood mansion, money is the most important thing. Everything else is secondary. Look at their website. On the front it tells you early check-in X amount of dollars late checkout X amount of dollars the whole thing is about dollars.I appreciate spending high dollars when the experience is worthy in fact that’s why we pick the highest quality and most expensive establishments is because we value the quality, experience and beauty. This place the attitude is all wrong. The place is beautiful. But the whole attitude is about money instead of about Service. We will not be going back and we would not recommend it sadly. Life is too short for everything to be valued on solely money. Life is so much bigger than that. Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, Guest Services / Front Office at The Mansion On Turtle Creek, responded to this review Dear H7061ZIRobertA,Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience in such detail. I am truly sorry that your arrival felt anything less than warm, gracious, and welcoming, especially for what was meant to be a special visit with your daughter.I regret deeply how the situation regarding the champagne and gift basket was handled. While there are state regulations and hotel policies that guide the handling of outside food and alcohol, this should always be communicated with care, clarity, and respect. It is clear from your description that this interaction felt abrupt and discourteous, and I am sincerely sorry for the disappointment it caused both you and your daughter after the thoughtful effort she made to welcome you. Upon review, we have decided to change our policy, but we regret that our policy impacted your stay with us.A moment that should have felt celebratory instead became frustrating, and that is not the experience we ever want to create. Hospitality at the Mansion is meant to feel personal, generous, and intuitive, and I regret that in this instance it came across as transactional and rigid.I am also sorry that this initial impression shaped your overall perception of the hotel. While we do strive to be transparent about our offerings and services, it should never feel as though value outweighs genuine care. Your feedback is incredibly important and is being shared with our leadership team so we may revisit both how our policies are presented and how we ensure every guest interaction reflects warmth and understanding.Thank you again for your candor. I am truly sorry that your visit left you feeling this way, and I appreciate you taking the time to share such meaningful feedback. Louis St-Amand | Assistant Director of Clienteling

    Pleasant stay

    rating16 Mar 2026

We stayed two nights as part of a greater USA and Mexico trip. Hotel itself was nice, although a little dated in parts. Room was a good size and drinks and biscuits in the lobby was a nice touch. We had booked through a travel agent, and our room rate had been pre paid. Upon check out we were charged again for the nightly rate (charged twice). I understand that mistakes can be made, however what disappointed me the most was that the reception staff made no attempt to listen, assist or work with me to sort it out, despite me showing evidence that I had paid in full. It took me one hour to sort this out with the reception desk - but they really didn't want to know and were completely dismissive. I did end up getting a refund from the hotel as they eventually recognised their error, however it was a disappointing end to our stay. Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, Guest Services / Front Office at The Mansion On Turtle Creek, responded to this review Dear BristolSydney,Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your stay with us. We truly appreciate your thoughtful comments and are grateful you chose the Mansion as part of your broader journey through the USA and Mexico.I am pleased to know that you enjoyed the overall character of the hotel, the generous size of your room, and the small touches in the lobby such as complimentary drinks and biscuits. At the same time, I understand your observation that certain areas felt a bit dated, and your feedback has been shared with our leadership as we continue to thoughtfully care for and refresh this historic property.More importantly, I am very sorry for the experience you had at check out. While billing errors can unfortunately occur, there is no excuse for the way your concerns were handled. You should always feel listened to, supported, and treated with respect, particularly when clear documentation is provided. Spending an hour resolving a matter that should have been straightforward is understandably frustrating, and I regret that this left you with a disappointing final impression of your stay.I am glad the error was ultimately acknowledged and corrected, but I sincerely apologize for the dismissive manner you encountered along the way. This does not reflect the level of service or care we strive to deliver, and your comments are being reviewed closely with our front office team to ensure this does not happen again.Thank you again for your candor. We truly value your feedback and hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide an experience that feels seamless, attentive, and worthy of the rest of your travels.Best regards,Louis St-Amand | Assistant Director of Clienteling

    Cancellation on Valentines Day

    rating29 Jan 2026

My fiancée and I planned our entire trip around having Valentine’s Day brunch here. We literally booked a hotel nearby just to be close to the restaurant. To find out you are cancelling reservations for a full hotel buyout is beyond frustrating. You clearly prioritize private events over your actual guests on one of the biggest days of the year. Offering two glasses of champagne for a future visit is honestly a joke considering the time and money we spent planning this travel. Thanks for ruining our plans. Rosewood Mansion, Guest Services / Front Office at The Mansion On Turtle Creek, responded to this review Dear Mr. Badrenkov,Thank you for sharing your feedback. I am truly sorry for the disappointment surrounding your brunch reservation at The Mansion Restaurant.Due to a full property buyout at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, finalized shortly before the date of your reservation, the restaurant was regrettably required to close, impacting a number of guests. We fully understand how frustrating this must have been. While our team made several attempts to reach you, we have since discovered that an incorrect phone number was on file, and I sincerely apologize for this oversight.Your experience is important to us, and I would welcome the opportunity to address this more personally. I will be reaching out to you directly via email to follow up.Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.Warm regards,Yannick Augy | Area Director of Food & Beverage – Americas | Executive Assistant Manager Food & BeverageTelephone +1 214 520 5818
