  The location for us was perfect. We were in Duval Gardens which is a separate guest location a few blocks up Duval from the main resort. Although we may have used the resort amenities more then we did we were closer to all that Duval has to offer. As for the stay very clean and comfortable. Friendly staff, great breakfast each morning to start our day and a nice view of the ocean as it is right next to the Southern Most Point Beacon. I would have no problem referring this facility as the place to stay. It is a little more of the quite side of Duval but that was what we were looking for as the place to sleep.   Beautiful views but extremely disappointing customer service

  I really wanted to give this property a higher rating because the views and overall experience once I arrived were very nice. Unfortunately, the customer service leading up to and during my stay made that difficult.I had a family emergency and spent several days trying to contact someone to cancel my reservation. I spoke with one department but was repeatedly transferred to another department and told that there were only two people working who could assist me. I left numerous messages asking for someone to please call me back so I could cancel, but no one ever did.I had already canceled my original flights because I fully intended to cancel the entire trip. However, since I could not get anyone to return my calls or assist me with canceling the reservation, I was afraid I would lose all the money I had already paid. Because of that, I ended up having to rebook my flights and make the trip anyway. Due to the flight changes, I did not arrive to check in until almost midnight, which meant I essentially missed the entire first day of my stay.When I finally arrived, I also explained the entire situation to the front desk at check-in. The gentleman assisting me stated that he would notate my account regarding what had happened. I am not sure what that was supposed to mean or accomplish, because nothing was ever done and no one followed up with me afterward.What is most disappointing is that I have now been home for two days, it has been over a week since I first started calling, and I still have not received a single return call. No one has contacted me regarding my original request to cancel, addressed what I reported at the front desk, or even followed up to see if the situation had been resolved.Honestly, giving a rating of 6 may be more generous than the customer service experience deserves. The property itself, the overall experience once I arrived, and the beautiful views are really the only reasons I am giving it a 6. Unfortunately, the lack of communication, follow-through, and customer service during a family emergency prevented me from giving a higher rating. While it was unfortunately too late at that point to cancel the reservation, he was able to provide a service recovery along with our sincere apologies for the difficulties you encountered. We understand that this does not undo the frustration leading up to your stay, but we hope it demonstrates how seriously we take your concerns. We are grateful that you ultimately enjoyed the property, beautiful views, and your experience once you arrived.   Superior reservations experience

  After having a large change to my cancer treatment plan, the Southernmost Beach Resort was extremely kind in helping me make changes to my reservation. Their response to my request for change was very timely, and I received a touching message back from the management wishing me the best. Personal touches such as this mean so much!   We booked this trip several months ago for our 20th wedding anniversary. We were so excited to stay here based on the nice amenities including the 3 pools and the private beach. Our relatives who travel quite a bit, had stayed here before and they showed us their beach pictures. It was really nice but it was also a decade ago. This was also our first time to Key West so we thought this was a great location.Unfortunately upon arrival, we find out that the beach was unusable with a muddy appearance, and a terrible rotten egg smell that we learned later was sargassum. Also one of the big pools was closed due to maintenance.We could not even enjoy the local outside restaurant there as the smell made me gag. Same thing at the tranquil pool, couldn’t relax when I was about to barf with the smell.It was a nice resort and the one big pool that was open with the bar was very nice. With these major issues, I felt we should have been contacted ahead of time to decide if we wanted to reschedule or continue with our existing reservations. It should have been our decision as we would not have come then. The other thing that was negative is I have never had such dim lighting in the bathroom ever. I Couldn’t even see to put my makeup on. Also, the room was VERY tiny but nice and clean. We still had a great vacation and enjoyed all that the island has to offer! We will come back again one day but would not consider staying here. This year was an exceptionally difficult year for sargassum, with one of the worst seasons on record. Each year is different, and conditions can change quickly depending on winds, tides, and currents. Thankfully, this temporary seasonal challenge has now come to an end. There are no longer mounds of sargassum along the shoreline, and with our team continuing to maintain the beach daily, conditions continue to improve. During this time, our private beach and private tanning pier extending over the Atlantic Ocean remained available and were not impacted. While the Shores Pool was temporarily closed for a complete resurfacing project and additional upgrades around the pool and bar area, the Pineapple, Avalon, and Tranquility pools remained open. We are also pleased that the Shores Pool is scheduled to reopen at the end of this week. Our café remained open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and we welcome We also appreciate your comments regarding the bathroom lighting and size of your accommodations. With more than six acres of accommodations across the resort, our rooms vary in size, style, and location, and we are glad that you found your room clean and comfortable despite those concerns. Most importantly, we understand your point about wanting advance communication regarding conditions that could affect your vacation. We are sorry these temporary challenges coincided with such an important celebration. We are glad you were still able to have a great vacation and enjoy Key West, and we sincerely hope your experience on the island gives you a reason to return someday.

  Do not stay at Southernmost Beach Resort

  We picked Southernmost due to the beach they had and spent more because of it. When we arrived, the beach was covered with what appeared to be mud and the smell was horrible. We were told by other couples that the other nearest beach was the same way. Southernmost should have informed us of the status of the beach so we could have changed our plans or they should have waived the $510 resorts fee. No one was able to use the beach and you couldn’t use the cafe that was near the beach because of the smell. The pool closest to the beach was also closed. This was a trip for our 20th anniversary which was not as enjoyable because of the beach. We will never go there again, it was horrible! Sargassum is a temporary, naturally occurring seasonal challenge throughout the Florida Keys, with conditions changing quickly based on winds, tides, and currents. The season has now come to an end, there are no longer mounds of sargassum along the shoreline, and our team continues to maintain the beach daily as conditions get better and better. We also want to note that our private beach and private tanning pier extending over the Atlantic Ocean remained available and are not impacted.
