  Great Residence Inn with easy access to the beaches

  Fifth time here and I always come back. There are some Residence Inn in the area (Fort Myers), but this one is the best. Although it's kind of far from downtown and busy areas, the price and easy/fast access to the beaches (Fort Myers or Sanibel) are super valuable.It's weird that they charge for parking (U$ 5/day) in a "remote" area (others don't).Breakfast included is very nice with fruits, cereals, eggs, juices. And they offer coffee all-day which is nice coming back in the afternoon. They offer you cookies (fresh baked) and popcorn too.I love Residence Inn because they have a full kitchen in the room, which is a great convenience for travelers. You have a Publix right next door too, Marriott Hotels, Guest Services / Front Office at Residence Inn by Marriott Fort Myers Sanibel, responded to this review The location may be a little removed from the busier parts of Fort Myers, but the convenient access to the beaches and the overall value have clearly made this property a repeat choice for you.   Horrible Experience

  We stayed 1 night in route to Key West and were very disappointed in this hotel. The room was incredibly dirty, the shower had soap from the previous guest it obviously hadn't been cleaned. The toilet seat was broken and I almost slide off, it moved almost completely off the frame when you sat down. There was blood on the walls. The kitchen and table had food stains all over the counters and the refrigerator had food residue. The dining table seats were covered in large food crumbs. The couch was not usable, it was also stained and sunk almost to the floor when you sat down. It didn't appear the room had been cleaned, not even vacuumed after the previous guest. The room condition was very concerning,we were exhausted from driving all day and checked in late otherwise we would have tried to find another hotel. We slept on blankets we had in our vehicle and wore flip flops to shower. For being a Marriott we were extremely surprised and disappointed, will never stay with this brand again. Look elsewhere if your vacationing in this area.   Well done, Marriott - again! Or still...!

  So here we are, almost exactly 2 years from our last visit, and another quick one night and home trip. This time we got 2 queens, as the 1 king rooms were all taken when I made my reservation. Everything I said in my previous review of this property still applies. However, this time the front desk staff was much more friendly than 2 years ago, and very accommodating as we arrived shortly after 12 noon and we were allowed to check into our room! Thank you SO much for that and allowing us to have a place to change for the beach. A problem that popped up with the in-room safe was quickly resolved by maintenance, and we were off to Lighthouse Beach. The AC in the room worked VERY WELL, and was not overly loud. The tub/shower had a curtain, so there were no water on the floor issues as we have had at other Marriott properties. The ice machine in the lobby did its job and kept the leftovers in our cooler cold until we got home along with providing ice for drinks overnight. Thank you yet again, for making our quick trip to Sanibel worry-free and as comfortable as it could have possibly been.   I'm a frequent traveller (almost weekly and almost all Marriott). The good - friendly front desk staff, heated pool, nice firepit area, beds were fine, breakfast was okay. The not so great - our room was supposed to be serviced every other day (it's a full kitchen) and we had to beg after four days to even get the garbage taken,and it was half hearted at best.. ... Parking is not free despite it being a huge lot with no reason to charge. The rooms were beat up and not well cleaned to begin with..heavy dust on services, unvacuumed corners, etc. There were rats running around the outside of the building (it's on a preserve, so I get it, but wouldn't recommend using the grill...) , although we didn't see them inside. They allowed people to bring their pets into the highly crowded, INSIDE breakfast area (said dogs were jumping on other guests). The hotel provides no beach shuttles and nothing is walkable except a grocery store - be prepared to drive or rideshare to any beach or activity.   Overall a nice and convenient place to stay. Breakfast was great. The rooms are a little dated but comfortable. Front desk staff was helpful and the gym is well maintained. My only complaints are that the ice machine was not working during our four day visit and there were often no towels at the pool.
