  It smells musty… our bed sheets had stains so we asked the front desk for room service to replace them with new sheets but apparently room service wasn’t there.   My stay at this hotel had positives and negatives. I felt that the cost was high for the quality - you're really paying for the prime location, rather than the actual hotel.The staff were excellent. All were friendly and very helpful. I also had to store my bag with them before and after check-out due to the timing of my flights. The staff were very accommodating with this. On the day I checked out, the person at the front desk was happy to let me get something out of my locked-away bag later in the day before I was ready to leave. She also offered me use of the hotel bathroom and pool even though I'd already checked out, as well as use of the downstairs shower. She even offered to get me a fresh towel since I no longer had access to my room. My room was quiet, which was very important to me. The mattress was also comfortable. I had the king room, which was surprisingly big. The fridge was cold, which was good because I needed to use it. It was great having breakfast included. It wasn't restaurant quality, but there were many options. Each day there were eggs, a breakfast meat, biscuits or hash browns, oatmeal, and a pancake machine, as well as warm cinnamon buns. For cold options, there was cereal, sliced bread, English muffins, and bagels. The bread items weren't fresh, but that's normal for a continental breakfast. They had apples, oranges, and bananas. Hot drinks and juice were also available.On the negative side, all the furniture in my room felt sticky. The entire building is also very dated. The phone in my room didn't work when I needed to call the front desk. Areas with carpeting had a strong musty smell (rooms are not carpeted, this was in hallways). I also had a problem with some kind of flying insect in my room. I kept finding their wings all over the place, and their dead bodies lined the bathroom sink every morning. I was even finding live ones between layers of toilet paper on the fresh rolls on the wall. It was pretty gross. Side sleepers should note that the pillows are the kind that squish down flat. The room was also incredibly dark. I've never stayed in such a dark room before. The pool is also very small and looked kind of grubby.The hotel felt safe though, and the location was very convenient.   Nice Kona Hotel

  This affordable! nice, quiet "off the beaten path " hotel has a nice pool, great breakfast, clean rooms & friendly staff! So close to food & the beach & shopping! its worth it! Stay here & skip the chaos of some ocean view places & sketchy folk that frequent there for handouts

  When we arrived we were greeted promptly and everything was ready. Because of traveling over 12 hours we were very tired. The next morning, we went down for breakfast (chicken strips and eggs). It was quite a shock. After that, we went to the front desk and was greeted by the most wonderful person, Mari. She was very informative of things in the area and suggested places to see. Being just a block from Ali'i Drive made going for supper was very easy. Breakfasts were very different. Some of the items were pulled pork, spam, bacon, and bacon. Most days, there were some types of eggs with all the other breakfast standards. We didn't use the pool because we went to the beach or exploring the island. It's a walk up a hill, but you will get your exercise.

  Warm Aloha Treatment

  Though the hotel is a bit dated, the staff and central location make it an ideal place to stay. Also, the price is reasonable for this resort town. We were welcomed with a warm aloha spirit by Mary during check-in. We were able to get into our room several hours early. She actually followed through and texted us when the room was ready. The breakfast, which is included (an unusual option in Kailua-Kona), was fantastic! The supervisor (chef/cook) for breakfast prepares at least one special food option each day along with the traditional fare found in other Mainland hotels. During our two breakfasts, we had chicken strips and kailua pork. Delicious! He seemed to take great joy in doing a fine job. Overall, we noticed that the staff took pride in their various roles. This was our second stay in this facility.
