    Cheap digs, for passing through one night is was a decent place to stay

    Small hotel, older, lacking some of the newer, nicer resort amenities, but at the $125 price point you get what you pay for I suppose. Valet was excellent, they were quick and pleasant, and the check-in desk was just inside the valet entrance. There was no bell desk/staff for bags. We had to lug our own. The room felt like a Super 8, there was no fridge or coffee maker, shower was small with light water pressure. Bed was comfortable, but the air conditioner noise was extremely loud, had to adjust the tv volume when the air kicked on and those who need quiet to sleep, think about bringing ear plugs. Check in lady was curt and unpleasant, when we checked out we got the opposite, she had a smile with a pleasant demeanor. We didn’t gamble much as we stayed one night--we were passing through but we did win a little bit. Would I stay again? Not sure…if I got a more kind greeting/welcome I would say yes.

    Old Vegas Lives!

    The first and oldest hotel in Vegas does not impress much at first sight. The rooms are old, plain, and small. The hotel is old and small. The location marks the very beginning of the now bustling city. But upon looking under the surface, this is a grand old hotel with much to offer.What we discovered was Old Vegas. The BEST of what Vegas used to be. Parking was free. Both valet and self parking. The hotel was incredibly simple to navigate. The location was perfect - right at the center of the action with eateries, entertainment, and shops all within a few steps. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The amenities were incredible! Free drinks, an open bar, free admission to Stadium Swim at Circa, free slot play, and so much more. They easily gave us more value in freebies than we paid in fees. We loved our stay at Golden Gate. It made for a fun and value packed Fremont experience!     Booked online using Canada at Par promotion where rate was supposed to be adjusted to Canadian dollars at check in. Was denied promotion because there is verbiage on a sister property hotel website. Even resort fee was charged in USD, despite the promotion claiming otherwise. As with all Vegas, just post the actual price. The hidden nickel and diming os a large reason thousands of Canadians are no longer visiting. Will pay more at a different hotel that shows pricing honestly.     Poor staff attitude ruined big win

    I didn’t stay at the hotel but did experience the casino. It started out great and went downhill very quickly. My wife was lucky enough to experience a fairly big win on the slots. The staff made a big fuss of us which was nice but it didn’t last long. The slots supervisor appeared and took my wife’s details and passport etc. He then returned and said he would be keeping back 30%. We explained that we were British and there is a tax treaty between the UK and US so he went to get another supervisor, Anthony. They both said we would be deducted the 30% and would have to claim it back when back in the UK. We tried to argue but weren’t getting anywhere. They left us but gave us no receipt or evidence of the win. I chased down the original supervisor and he handed me over a form and escorted me out. Unfortunately this form was completely wrong and was practically blank so I had to go and find him again. Eventually I was given a form with information input on it but there were a couple of errors which they assured me wouldn’t cause an issue. We left again and travelled back to the strip and went in the MGM and got talking to the slot supervisor there who said we should never have been taxed. When we showed her the form we had been given had too many errors on if we were to claim it back which meant another cab ride back to the golden gate. We spoke with Anthony again the slot supervisor for Golden Gate. All I can say is that he was rude, unapologetic and completely unhelpful. Three times we were given incorrect information. The cashier lady, Mary, in the Golden Gate also said that we shouldn’t have been taxed. What should have been a great experience in winning was ruined by the attitude of Anthony along with the incompetence and lack of knowledge of the rest of the staff especially given the contrasting information we were given in the same casino.     Canadians BEWARE

    We had the pleasure of visiting the Golden Gate Casino due to the advertise Canadian money at par they were offering.So we went there to the interact machine to take the money out of our visa, the slip from the machine directs you to the cash desk to get your money. Now, because my passport and my visa have two different names one Joseph and one Joe they said they could not give me the money because the names do not match. So I asked them three times if I’m gonna be charged on my Visa because I did not get the money and they would said no I would not be charged.. low and behold when I get home, there’s a charge on my visa for that amount not even in pending just a direct charge, now I am fighting to try to get this money recouped.
