  Peaceful hotel near a busy area

  This hotel is handy to the beach and a short walk to downtown Santa Monica. The staff are friendly and the rooms are comfortable. We stayed in one of the upstairs rooms towards the back of the property which was quiet and well away from street noise. There are a couple of palm trees beside the main building. Several gates keep the property safe and secure. Wifi worked well in the room. No fancy overheads here; just a restful stay in a convenient location.

  Aging property with recently updated rooms - but the exterior shows wear and could use some updates. Close to the beach but too far from dining. Our AC broke and made it miserable between the street noise and the heat. Would not recommend.

  Great little hotel in the heart of Santa Monica.

  I had just finished a 550 mile cycling adventure when I checked into the Bayside. Quick, friendly, and courteous service was my introduction to Bayside. Room was fresh, clean and comfortable. Location right in the heart of Santa Monica is hard to beat. I walked to good restaurants, the beach, the Pier, all within a few minutes. I was sorry I wasn't staying a few more days.

  This hotel has an outstanding location, especially given how expensive other hotels with similar views cost in Santa Monica. It is one block up from the beach, which you can see from some of the rooms. The rooms themselves aren't particularly large, but the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms clean. If you like intimate, not-cookie cutter hotels, I recommend the Bayside. Be sure to try to book the paid parking option as it makes it easier to come and go throughout the day.

  What a wonderful place

  I can highly recommend the Bayside Hotel. Everything I had imagined/hoped, and more. Everyone I encountered at the front desk was friendly, cheerful, helpful and informative from the get-go. On day one, having got off the Amtrak Texas Eagle at 05:00 and wasted as much time as I could, I turned up several hours before check-in and asked if it would be OK to leave my car in their lot for a couple of hours and go for a wander; not only was the reply Yes but they offered to check me in as my room was ready.I had a room on the ground (USA first) floor, great view through palm trees to the beach. The room was large, comfortable bed and a sizeable bathroom with shower/ sunken bath. The room was serviced daily and the whole hotel was clean and tidy. Quiet overnight apart from the occasional emergency vehicle siren.Everywhere you'd want to visit in Santa Monica was within short walking distance. This includes the legendary Rita's Gate of India restaurant on 5th Street which from the reviews sounded like California's answer to Fawlty Towers (took me two attempts to get in to eat there, visit one was indeed Fawlty Towers stuff, visit two was fine and the food was great).This is *not* the Bayside's fault but be warned that the parking rules in the area are arcane. The hotel's own lot is small and gets reserved ahead of time, again not their fault. There is a large lot across the road and there are meters immediately outside the hotel. You can park at meters for so many hours during the day and then it is free overnight. BUT if using the meters then you need to familiarise yourself with the days upon which you can't park in a particular spot because the City come along in the small hours to collect trash. If you're parked in the way on a particular day then you'll be fined. This was all explained very clearly upon arrival for which I'd award the Bayside another star if I could.
