    A Home Away From Home---Just In the Nick of Time!

    This review is long overdue but I just had to sing the praises of the Catalina Canyon Inn! Last October, my wife and I visited Catalina Island for a long awaited trip to the Jazztrax Festival (wonderful jazz festival, BTW!) and our initial accomodations were---to put it mildly---very unpleasant! However, we were able to locate (and re-locate) to the Catalina Canyon Inn on very short notice, with a major festival in town to boot! When we called the hotel to inquire about availability, we were warmly greeted by an earth angel named Jackie who patiently listened to our lodging tale of woe and assured us that there was a room waiting for us when we arrive. As we walked in the lobby, Jackie was there with a big smile and said, "Welcome Home!" After the ordeal we experienced the previous night, she was definitely a sight for sore eyes! The place was more like a resort than a hotel---a true hidden gem up in the hills of Catalina Island! The room was clean and comfortable, the grounds were well attended and there were several amenities available (pool, fitness center, ping-pong table, etc.) as well as plenty of areas to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The hotel also offers a free shuttle which takes you into town all throughout the day---very convenient! Another bonus is the restaurant co-located to the hotel, the Sunset Bar & Grill---fantastic food and even better staff (a more in-depth review forthcoming)! All in all, it was a wonderful and unforgettable experience but I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the other stellar Catalina Canyon Inn staff:Abbey, Mike, Dawn, Ophelia, Carmelo, Max, Daisy, Karina, Antonio and Eduardo---you all are THE BEST!We hope to visit again and when we do, we'll definitely stay at the Catalina Canyon Inn!!!     The shuttle is convenient. But I heard they might cut the service because of the increasing gas price. They have a cat wandering around the pool and restaurant. We saw cat poop on the pool chair and I smelled cat urine when I had lunch there. It’s a pity because I was planning to have my breakfast there for two mornings. I was told my beds would get made the 2nd day but it didn’t happen. The hand soap is very thin and just slightly bigger than a quarter.     Exceptional hospitality that made a birthday unforgettable

    Our daughter, her husband, and their 10 week old baby recently stayed at Catalina Canyon Inn while celebrating her 30th birthday on Catalina Island. Before their trip, I secretly called the hotel hoping to arrange a small birthday surprise since I wasn't able to be there in person.I was fortunate to speak with Dawn Meracle, who could not have been more warm and helpful. Although Catalina Island does not have a florist, Dawn kindly offered to go into town herself to find flowers and even stopped by a local candy shop to pick up chocolates. She thoughtfully arranged everything in the room before my daughter and her family arrived. When they checked in, they were greeted with the most wonderful surprise, the 1st being, the hotel had Upgraded them to a 1 bedroom Suite for their entire stay and the surprises continued as they entered their room to the goodies Dawn had set up! Dawn's kindness, initiative, and genuine hospitality made a lasting impression on our entire family. Employees like Dawn truly make a stay memorable. We are incredibly graful for the care she showed and highly recommend this hotel.     Beautiful rooms!

    Beautiful rooms at a great price in January. I love the blue painted walls! The hotel grounds are beautiful too. We walked up from our ferry, about 0.7 miles, but they do have a shuttle! Our one complaint was that there were hairs on the floor of the bathroom when we arrived. And we wish they had a hot tub for the cold seasons! Otherwise we had a wonderful time at Catalina canyon inn and it was fun staying at such a beautiful place.     Our 3 night stay was disappointing for the price paid. The pictures are misleading vs reality.

    There were ants on the floor and on my pillow. The staff knew about the ants and offered to spray the room. They said good thing it wasn’t spider season - I was glad too. The air conditioner had a mildew musty smell and the towels were very thin. The staff was nice and the restaurant was convenient. However, I will not stay there again.
