  The Best Price for Money for Staying in Los Angeles/San Gabriel or Monterey Park or Downtown Los Angeles

  After searching for a decent hotel in Los Angeles and San Gabriel neighborhood, I decided to come here again for a longer stay because this Holiday Inn El Monte, CA, which was built from a ground zero 9 years ago, delivered a Best Price for Value (性价比最高) with a large and nice guestroom, a suite (view the newly uploaded photos for your reference) - see the reasons as follows:a) A bigger & nice guestroom in comparison to other comparable hotels, but a daily price is much lower.b) It has both swimming pool and 6-loader SPA (Whirlpool)Note: The neighborhood hotels like Courtyard by Marriott, Sheraton Los Angeles/San Gabriel or Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel DO NOT have a SPA (Whirlpool) at all while Hilton Los/Angeles/San Gabriel only has a 6-loader-kids hot tub, where the comfort level is far below the one here I personally experienced on 5/19/2026).c) The lobby is better than most Holiday Inn Express & Suite'.d) It offers a free nightly parking for guests, especially five dedicated Diamond Elite spaces near the entrancee) Two complimentary breakfast for two for diamond member or a small fee for non-diamond members.Note: The hotel outsources a restaurant at the lobby - for some reasons, the breakfast experience was not good, e.g., we entered the restaurant in the morning at 8:50 a.m. this morning, but must wait for 50 minutes before the food arrived at our table - some guests might have to leave without eating any food for meetings, etc., but consumed the breakfast coupon at the expense of the Holiday Inn, meaning, a restaurant owner made the money by collecting the breakfast coupon without offering any food! The 2nd bad experience occurred again on 5/23/2026 for the same issue referenced above.It is worth noting that my check-in experience was outstanding, thank you, Kimberly, for your knowledgeable skill with efficiency.   Interesting Area, Big Room. Friendly Staff and Construction Quality Not Great

  This is a pretty interesting hotel. It seems it is built with the Chinese tour groups in mind - it has a huge lobby to accommodate them and many of the signs are in both English and Simplified Chinese. I didn't see any tour buses pulling up during my stay.The area is a little sparse. There is a McDonald's across the parking lot. A 7-Eleven on the next block. A Mexican restaurant cross the street. There is actually a bus right outside the hotel that can take you to Downtown LA for US$1.75 each way. The hotel has an on-site Chinese restaurant.I got one of the bigger rooms - has a little refrigerator and microwave + a sofa bed. It is pretty big. Lots of furniture and storage space but I think this adds to the cost of cleaning and maintenance. The hardware is not "fashionable" - older style - but totally usable and very functional. Construction seems to be not great - I could hear my neighbor pretty well. There are also some strange stuff - like a power outlet that is not leveled, some kind of wire sticking out of the wall, the strange bracket of the shower partition, etc. The safety deposit box is also very different from those used at other hotels, strangely positioned in the closet and is not that big.The staff was nice and friendly.Very cheap facial tissue at the bathroom - the kind that falls apart easily.

  Weird one night stay

  Stayed here for one night so we didn’t spend a great amount of time here. Our feeling was the hotel had a “weird” vibe. I’m not sure what the building was used for prior to becoming a Holiday Inn but maybe apartments of some sort? Not sure. Check in was good and hotel grounds are in a busy area of El Monte where you have that “safety” concern. They have a security officer outside if that tells you the security of the area. Room was big but outdated. Again, this was likely at one time an apartment turned into hotel. The bathroom was likely at what time built for someone with disabilities. All in all would not stay here again given area that hotel is located. Room was clean and friendly staff.   Still good, but unpleasant check-in experience this time

  I gave this hotel 5 stars in my review a few years back. Have stayed a few times again since then with positive experience. But I have a different opinion this time. The room itself is clean and good as expected. However, when I arrived around 7 pm, there was only 1 guy working, so the check in process took a while with a few people in front of me. Maybe they do this as a cost cutting measure, but for a hotel this big, it inflicts unnecessary unpleasant check in experience to the hotel customers.

  Newer Holiday Inn with a few bumps all around

  Stayed here for a few nights and it was a decent experience. Holiday Inn is located in El Monte. The property reminds me of China and features a gated parking in the rear with a non-functioning gate.There is a uniformed security guard in front of the East LA hotel. Check-in took a bit while we waited for the front desk agent to come back from their break. The lobby was gigantic, with plenty of luggage carts, mini TV sections, and random sofas. There is a Chinese restaurant on the lobby level too.On the street level, there is a ballroom, outdoor pool, fitness centre, guest laundry, along with a few rooms.Upper levels are accessible by elevator. The hallways doesn't seem to be air conditioned. There are windows in the hallways by the lifts along with random sofas placed in front of the elevator banks. The elevator also featured strange sounds upon arrival to the desired floor.The King sized room was spacious, featuring a fire-proof doors for both the entrance along witht the bathroom door. Water pressure in the bathroom was weak and tended to drip all night. Bathroom consisted of Dove branded body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and hand lotion. Towels included body, hand, face, along with a towel in front of the shower. The closet included a digital safe that was locked upon arrival... There was a luggage rack too. There was a mini fridge, coffee making equipment, along with a mini microwave inside the room. There were a couple coffee cups along with a couple water cups that were in plastic but opened on both ends?!? The TV featured premium business channels although the TV screen was distorted...there was no way to adjust the image for the TV...The HVAC in the room worked well and was quiet. The bed in the room was a comfortable pillowtop mattress although there were slight body imprints on each side of the mattress. Lighting in the room was a touch dim, especially for reading at night.Parking was complimentary and included EV chargers. Wifi was also complimentary and worked well. Housekeeping is by request only and is only available every 4 nights.
