    Little Tokyo stand-out

    rating03 Jun 2026

I've done a number of staycations in Little Tokyo, staying at the Miyako for all but one visit, when I stayed at the Doubletree Hilton. They are about a block apart, but Miyako is better located, has better service, and is better maintained, in my opinion. The Doubletree will give you Hilton points, but is larger, less personal and a bit run down, also in my opinion. For my last visit, Miyako was sold out on all but one night of my stay. This is because it's baseball season and the hotel hosts many many Japanese baseball fans and tourists. After all, this is the hotel with the huge Shohei Ohtani mural. There were 2 home games during my stay, so the lobby was always full of folks in Dodger gear, plus a lot of tour groups; there was usually a tour bus out front in the morning. I didn't see any children in the hotel this last visit, which was absolutely fine with me.The hotel's rooms are pretty basic but decently sized. The have safes, coffee/tea makers and fridges, and there's a Japanese-style toilet and slippers. It seems the shower heads differ in different rooms, unless they've all recently been replaced. The current head has firehose-like pressure! The hall was very quiet at night (thanks to elderly Japanese guests), but of course there was some street noise. The hotel has a few amenities. There's a fitness centre and laundry room, a restaurant with a breakfast buffet, a cocktail/karaoke lounge, and a cute bakery/cafe that's popular with non-guests. There's a minimart for guests also. The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Little Tokyo right next to the Japanese Village Plaza, which is quite a bustling place, even at night. Note there is a not-small presence of unhoused in the area. The hotel has valet parking, but there's a self-park garage behind, which also serves the Plaza. I took the Metro here; the stop is one block from the hotel. Little Tokyo is a great launching point nearby areas as well, such as the Arts DIstrict and northern DTLA.A go-to for me.

    Mikayo

    rating22 Feb 2026

Looks like a classic Japan hotel from the pictures, when I arrived it had more of the feeling of an airport motel. This includes the room furnishing and smell in particular. Seems to have been converted from junky apartments, don't know if this is the case. The area is grimy and full of human riffraff, mostly lower class youths and vagrants, didn't used to be this way around there. The windows can be partially opened at least. Did not have any problems with the staff. Price was about 50% higher than I would expect given the conditions.

Great hotel for weekend stay exploring downtown LA without a car

    rating20 Oct 2025

Great location in Little Tokyo - a few minutes walk from the metro station. This made it easy to take the Fly Away bus from LAX to Union Station and then one stop on the metro to the hotel. There is a bakery/coffee shop on the first floor - but there are also lots of other food options in very close proximity. Easy 20 minute walk to major sites like MOCA, the Broad, Disney Concert Hall. Rooms were comfortable and staff friendly.

    Excellent Hotel

    rating05 Jun 2025

The Miyako Hotel is in the center of Little Toyoko in Down Town Los Angeles. It is not near the Financial District, it is a great place to see all of Downtown LA and the cool places there. The hotel has a Japanese theme and the staff speaks Japanese and of course English as well as other languages. The staff is so very friendly and really just kind people. They will have your room ready on time. They also have 24 hour staffing and if you don't have a reservation they may have a spot for you.The rooms are a nice size and each one has a Toto Toilet which I love. The rooms and the bathrooms are spotless and the they have great AC.The lobby is very nice. Parking is for a fee.The hotel is within walking distance of some great eateries, from fine dinning to cheap eats. It is also near the train station.Little Toyoko is just adorable, there are shops and the Japanese Museum is nearby. There is a bakery right in the hotel with coffee and great pastries. They also have two amazing places to dine. Tamon is one of the great places to eat right there. They are a sushi place and it is all great and just what you would expect at a great Japanese eatery. The other restaurant is also great with a wide selection of Japanese food and American. It is all just so comfortable and caring. Enjoy the great room with a wonderful TV and all things you would expect at a great place.
